State of the Game

I'm having a really hard time to work out if I enjoyed the film.....its really strange.

Its not like when I walked out of the cinema after Dredd and was beaming ear to ear.
After Lynch's film maybe you where expecting something similar? I presume the stories the same. I will watch it at some point, was actually looking forward to it. I enjoyed Chalamet in The King, so this is disappointing to hear.

Chalamet is extremely overrated IMO and his resting B face doesn't help matters. As for Momoa he's good at what he does but like Ryan Reynolds he plays the same character in every movie and shows he makes.

As for Dune did it feel like you were watching part one of a potential trilogy or was it a self-contained movie with the potential for more?
It ends after Paul fights for his place with the Fremen and they are walking back to Stilgars Sietch

It kind of feels self contained in that via Pauls premonitions it promises his retribution and future. So to answer you.....yes, but no :D

This is what gets me- in Lynches Dune Paul is older played by Kyle MacLachlan who does a better job -even though Lynch puts a heavy spin on things with the over the top Harkonnen.

In my head its like Denis here make an IKEA Dune- visually perfect but lacking soul. Lynch made a baroque nightmare that was flawed but packed in imagination.

Would you say if you never watched Lynch's version you would have enjoyed it more? Its gotten a lot of mixed reviews.
I'm not sure. Both films take liberties with the story but cover roughly the same events- for example:

Lynch totally changes the ending of his Dune, but Denis changes Kynes to a woman and how she dies. Kynes dies in Lynches version much more closely to the book (although in an outtake) than Denis version does.

Its like I said, Denis has the 'vision' but Lynch has the 'heart'. Both are fantastic films but neither are really 'the one'.

Yeah, I always liked Zimmer but he's no John Williams. I think his creative well is drying out.
I think in Dune his score is a) cliched slightly b) lacks cohesion c) lacks 'Zimmerness'. Apparently he turned down Tenet to do Dune, and ironically Tenet has a punchier score :D

Compare it to Interstellar or Dunkirk Zimmer though :( Firing on all cylinders whereas here I feel he's sipping tea dialing it in.

I've never seen the original film (the books are lined up next for the kindle) however dune to me will always be the fantastic game (duneII) - a precursor to the amazing C&C.
Years ago we used to chant "har-vest, har-vest" at the harvesters while they did their business whilst being chased by the worms.

The Mega CD Dune was also epic, being a weird RTS / quest hybrid.

However the best was the board game https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dune_(board_game)
