Drew Wagar's Thoughts

[..] The comments below the line are frankly pathetic.
You know what's also pathetic? Most of the comments in this thread.

The people who say they don't care if somebody stops playing a game apparently care enough to leave a comment. Every. Single. Time.
A lot of these posters obviously absolutely hate Mr. Wagar, but it seems they can't ignore a thread literally titled "Drew Wagar's Thoughts".

Maybe not spending so much time with something you clearly don't like would be a good advice, huh?

Yeah, right....

You do read through the forum on occasion, perhaps you'd like to reiterate the sentiment with the obviously unhappy...

As for Drew - who hates him here?

Me? I've read some of his stuff, he's just another person, just like you are ;)

Hate's a very strong emotion and I personally reserve it for people far more deserving than Mr Wagar. Just because some choose not to worship at his alter doesn't mean that hatred is involved. I'm sure most people thank him for his contributions and wish him well in future games and hobbies.

I will say though that while I don't give a toss he's leaving again I feel I'm entitled to be amused by it.

That's exactly why I used that phrase. It's what several posters love to tell others. Everyone's a hypocrite.

Just look at the last couple of pages. Take your pick.

I'm just fed up with the constant condescension and trolling on this forum. A "Youtuber" uploads a video to Youtube. And to everyone's even greater surprise he talks about his opinion.

I think that point is very valid, 9 years is a good portion of one's life to be involved in a game, and in being part of a team that was setting the scene for the future of the game - so just 'walking away' might be tough!

In truth none of us on the outside of Frontier knows exactly where the game is going, so leaving today because "I don't like where the game is" could be sensible, or not if changes are introduced to negate even a few dislikes. Frontier are not particularly good at disclosing what tomorrow might bring, are they?

ED has always been a "Curate's Egg" for me, I consume the bits I like, can ignore the remainder, pretty much, as there is no need to be doing everything available, all of the time.
It's a crazy long time - and I'm not far off, been playing since launch, with about a year's break in total (Horizons lauch really deepened the rabbit hole for me) and since then pretty much regularly throughout. 4,000 hours, likely more towards 4,500 now, two purchased copies, hundreds of Euros spent on quite frankly sub-par cosmetic tat but it's tat that I enjoyed. There's not a single other game that pulled that off.

I already enjoyed Elite on the C64 but never got far in that, it was a bit too complex for me as a kid and without any sort of manual I was lucky to merely ship a bunch of computer components to another station... but the core principle really managed to tickle something in my brain to want to dump so much time and money into it, so fair play to Braben/Frontier for doing it 'proper' decades later.

With EDO it's the first time I thought "this is not what I wanted Elite to be", and while the core ship stuff is still part of it, I feel that Frontier will now spend the foreseeable future on the on-foot stuff because that's the money earner now. That is of course their right as the IP owner.

For me I'm quite torn now what to do... playing EDO in its current state isn't very fun for me (it's not unplayable but it is a janky chore more often than not), I hoped for patch 8 to make big steps into the right direction at least performance wise, but that looks like isn't happening now based on the backtracking by Frontier in recent comms, and the gameplay will remain the same regardless for a long time, no new SRV or emotes will change that.

Part of me wants to go cold turkey, quite my forum activity and just uninstall the whole thing (including EDH) because I'm just re-treading the same old activities, and I now question the point of doing so other than just for the sake of it, and post miserable posts here. It really is a habit now where you think you will enjoy it but when you log in you don't really. But what if update 9 introduces something major? Or perhaps update 11? It's all quite pathetic in a way writing all this but that's the emotional investment I was referring to. Mental eh, quite literally!

i don't. But i do hate the fact FD made decisions which wasted several months of my time (and my groups) when they were open more broadly to narrative input, in order to facilitate "Drew stuff".

But like many things, i put that to FD.

I have strong distaste for the way FD handled pretty much all that stuff. There were many more trying to have input to the lore and narrative...

Instructions unclear I bought some arxe.

Also, they communicated last week 🤷‍♂️
where ?i must have missed it !Since the last dev posti saw was on Sep 9 ,and even then they still haven't even hinted st a release date for console, a roadmap for console, even a general time frame 2022,23,24 ? Like seriously, i work as a contractor so please, to say they don't have a general idea is rubbish!

They have an exact idea: After the PC performance is acceptable. But you've been told that a few times, and it's not really the topic here ...

Ah sorry, your issue isn't that there is no communication it's that there isn't communication that you like.

Glad we cleared that up.

Having been here a while (since before Elite Dangerous was announced), let me pass on my suggestion to you all, something Drew (as clever a man as he is) never realised. Don't place expectations on Elite Dangerous, or on Frontier. Accept the game for what it is. Play the parts you enjoy, leave the parts you don't.

It's ok to feel disappointed with the game. It's ok to feel like playing something else. It's ok to decide to leave Elite Dangerous for good and never come back, heck it's even ok to state that on these forums and elsewhere. Just don't expect anyone to give a damn if you do move on. If they do, great, take that common feeling as a positive for yourself, but don't let no-one caring bother you. Down that road, unhappiness lies.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I am not leaving the community or these forums (I realise no-one cares). I accept this game for what it is, and I don't place my expectations on it (which is not the same as wanting this or that in the game, don't confuse the two).

Stop posting sensible, rational posts - that will get you nowhere
