Drew Wagar's Thoughts

So where is the problem? Should the game be stuck forever in the simple 'spaceship' game it has been for years, or eveolve into a game where the player in not welded into a seat of some vehicle or another.

I get you did the grind to get stuff in Odyssey (your mercenary rank suggests so) and got bored, but the game was already shedding bored players way before Odyssey was released. At least now there is much more to do, with the liklihood of further development to add to the 'foot' experience - splendid!
I do not mind legs content. It was interesting at first but ultimately I joined the game because of space and ships. I do like the synergy but currently everything that is not legs is on hold for years and will be on hold for at least couple more that are required for fixing stuff and console release.

He even has the hat!!!!

No no, no problem at all.
Heaven forbid that this would a problem.
With all the first person shooters on the market, and only a handful of space exploration and trading games, of course ED needed an fps stapled to it.
I get that now. 🧐
I think it is hilarious fun... Others, naturally, will think otherwise.

Isn't it great that we can hold different opinions of what makes fun, fun?

Yes, indeed so. It is even likely that any further development will require Odyssey as a base, as ship interiors would require 'legs' to function, further atmospheric bodies being added, likewise... It is odd, it appears that any further development of this 'space' game might require ambulation to be realised!

In a galaxy of 400 billion systems... nice.

100+ shoiuld be enough to keep you going though? Nice Ediacaran/Cambrian designs they have too, imo.

What happens if you are caught? Can you talk your way out of it?

Don't get caught! You might think about which security levels to dismanttle and why, using atmospheric controls and cut out door panels as diversions, booking your taxi ahead of time and if all else fails use those legs .. and run like hell!

Pretty sure all except the trading will require shooting, yes?

No. I have an infiltration Maverick suit with no weapons. Scavenger patrols can be circumvented, just like guards .. though you do have to be extra stealthy, they are much more easily triggered. A bit like Drew (just a joke .. and to be on topic o7)

The strange thing is, if you asked ten E: D commanders for their wishlist or vision of what the game ought to be, you'll probably get at least 25 different answers, but I can't imagine how any of them ever said "We need a shallow FPS in E: D".
I'm glad you're back to your usual positive, open-minded persona. Anyway, I would've put some first person combat on my wishlist. Why not.

Surely that would depend on which 10 players were asked?

With the "real" game, in your opinion, being exploration, I guess your choice would be to ask 10 like-minded souls?

I'd probably ask players who did a bit of everything, for balance. Oh! I do a bit of everything, and really enjoy the gameplay introduced in Odyssey, even the amazing variety of new Flora, and new planetary technology (even if it is still getting 'fixed' - although it is going to take some time) and variety of tasks that don't involve "shooting someone in the face".

Funny how two people could possibly have such opposite views of what the "real" game is, isn't it?

Why not indeed. And the hundreds of fps already on the market? None of them good enough for you? Must be your usual positive, open-minded persona then.

Sure it is. Again, I agree completely ! ! !

Well, except that part where the legs are under cooked and the fps is way down.
So you move on now.
Ah yeah, like the base game and Horizons where people spent years complaining it was an inch deep and a mile wide. But now that's all forgotten and y'all are just taking pop shots at a completely optional DLC which happens to not match with your personal expectations. How endearing.

I was thinking more along the lines of "10 long time players, including previous games in that too", so just people with knowledge and emotional investment in the franchise really, but everyone has an 'opinion' on what they want to see added to E: D to add some much needed depth to it.

For me, spending 4+ years developing a sub-standard FPS component would have been something around 493rd on my wish list.

No matter who you ask, you'll get more answers than you asked for is my point... which, judging by your last sentence, you probably agree with me on that. 🤷‍♀️

... and the normal tunnel-vision only sees FPS, despite the efforts of others to illustrate that "shooting people in the face" is not all the DLC provides.
