Drew Wagar's Thoughts

Here in the north of Englandshire, the equivalent would be "I'll do it... in a bit."

But does 3/4 of the truth round up to being a whole fib ... ?

Philosophical question obviously but Pareto says 3/4 the way there is on track and obviously you do need to be able to walk, period, before you can walk around ANY form of interior.

(Personally I think FD will end up having their hand forced by that Other Game)

Actually ... I've decided I don't care what you think, feel free to carry on thinking Frontier promised ... you'll be wrong, but I've gone past the point of caring that you're wrong.

Which is absolutely fine, I've already stated in this thread that nobody cares what I think... nor you.

Braben did explicitly promise. It's not even debatable... it's right there in his words. And he has broken that promise.

He's either changed his mind, or he's a snake oil salesman and said that to get money in the Kickstarter, and it's up to you which of those you believe.

It makes no difference to me. 🤷‍♀️

Your guess good as mine (and mine good as yours) though if you wanted a splash headline, to try to reverse the trouble caused by Odyssey framerates, "Ship Interiors : This December!" might just do that? And powder is usually best kept dry. Aces, up your sleeve.
Realistically, it would be more like "Ship Interiors: NEXT December!".

Arthur is a spokesman in this instance. He will only divulge what he is authorised to divulge. The buck stops much higher up than him, and the decisions are made higher up too.

He doesn'tr run the project though, to be fair. He's fielding repeated chat questions, he says not now, there's other priorities, he's probably right. Even "the dev team" are not executive level, they only work on what's in front of them. It's a bit unfair to cast Arthur - or even the dev team - as the fount of all responsibility and knowledge so until a u-turn passes DBOBE's lips it's not gospel. It just isn't.

I'm not (at least not meaning to) so if I gave that impression, my words were badly chosen.

In that instance though, Arthur was speaking for the company / dev team. The company is still part-owned by David Braben, and he's still the largest individual shareholder, so it's reasonable to assume that when Art said "ship interiors are not in the plan for the future", he was a) authorised to say that and b) speaking from some authority as far as Frontier is concerned. He is the spokesman for David Braben and the rest of Frontier Developments. I don't blame the messenger.

Of course, Braben can override all of that if he chose to speak himself on this issue, but I can't answer to that because there's a pig flying over Battersea power station that I need to try and retrieve.

I know, but I cant find the bit that says it will never happen.

Right at the start of the video, Arthur explained that the thinking in the dev team is that it doesn't "add any value to the gameplay loops", and therefore there are no plans to do them.

It will not happen without being extensively planned, and "no plans" is therefore pretty clear. 🤷‍♀️

Its why it's best to simply not speak to the community at all, ever. There are too many anxiety-fueled people who physically cannot deal with uncertainty. So to make it a bit easier on themselves they auto-translate stuff like "no current plans" to "definitely will never happen".

It's why Star Citizen is a "success". While gamers pretend to want to 'honest truth' many really just cant cope with nuance. It's either "it will definitely come" or "it will definitely not come", the CEO is either the greatest guy ever or the worst, something was 100% promised et cetera.

They don't even realize they are doing it half the time, it's such an ingrained habbit of dealing with uncertainty.

I dont care what you make of it, just want to know where they said it will never happen.

So they never said that?

They've said there are no plans. Presumably they have plans for other things that they also haven't done yet, but at least they are planned. So you can look forward to those things, down the line...

Unless something magically falls out of the sky and they're somehow done without anyone planning them, it's fairly definitive.

I for one find it funny how this thread has devolved into a debate about ship interiors, which has nothing to do with why Drew is leaving Elite. He stated clearly in his video that he wants the focus to be on flying spaceships, not legs (though he does admit that he enjoys legs more than he expected in NMS).

I was (and still am) a proponent of Subnautica-like gameplay for future ship interiors and legs, but having seen Odyssey, I'm beginning to regret betting on that particular horse. If anything, it feels like spaceships have been offered as a "burnt sacrifice" for the new FPS gameplay, to the point where Frontier boasts that we don't even need to use a ship in Odyssey if we don't want to... :(

Legs should have added to the spaceship flying game (using legs to enhance your experience as an owner and pilot of a spaceship), rather than be offered as an alternative to it.
