Lord - Offline-gate. That was horrendous. The only thing that stopped me from flouncing off at that point was the
assurance
that once fdev had sunset the servers, they'd release the server side code so the community could continue to play the game offline. You could get refunds for offline gate but they would only allow a refund if you hadn't played any of the alpha/beta until that point or they'd examine it on a case by case basis.
It was complicated by the fact that one of the beta levels was more expensive than the actual game but didn't give of the benefits like the LEP (just early access to the game), so there were quite a few who thought they could get a refund for the beta (citing the offline gate) and then buy the game back after it had been launched properly for the cheaper price. So you didn't know who was genuinely upset and who was trying to pull a fast one.
Even though, I think the only regrets about the kickstarter were ;-
- I bumped my pledge up to the DDF Level, only for it to be shut down not long after (with no god like powers either).
- I didn't bite the bullet and go for the fiction pack (like Drew did).
The only person I know who got a refund for Odyssey was one of the guys from Loose Screws. When they announced there was no plans for further VR development, he argued with fdev-support about the fact that they used the phrase 'No on-foot VR at launch', implied that on-foot VR was coming down the line and he wanted a refund. Fdev wasn't having any of it but instead he cited the same reasons to his credit card company and they got him is refund.
