Then I wanted to go to the launch party

You obviously made a (genuine) good impression, Colonia didn't exist back then right?

And it seems like a decent bonus even if it is coincidence. No such luck on my name, then again I was a KS cheapskate relatively speaking. (I'll have dinner with anyone for £3.99 btw)

No atmospheric landables in Juniper I see. Lots of horticultural and agraponic bases though.
Might go for a goosey - and chemicals - later. o7

It occurs to me that there might be a lot of forum names used as planet names, buried deep within E: D's galaxy.

Cue everyone jumping into the game to check if they're there. :ROFLMAO:
I get callet by my CMDR name every time by the traffic control. Such famous am I - they memorised me even with the voice overs. (My CMDR is a DeLacy - flying a Python e.g. unlocks this "feature" - was pretty awesome when they made that change)

I know I'm an argumentative and stubborn sod at times on here (what! no! really!?!), but I'm honestly not that bad really. 🤷‍♀️

I wanted to go to the launch party to meet everyone that I'd been chatting to for 60 days during the Kickstarter. It was a good event, but they had dropped offline just before that, so it soured things a bit... not just for me, but for many people there. It was a shame. They had a fantastic Cobra MK3 model there though.

The planet I actually paid to name is an Earthlike, so no chance of landing on there any time soon. Which is why I was pleased to find that it had an airless moon orbiting it, also named appropriately. Driven around it many times.

And no, Colonia wasn't a thing then.

Surely a storm in a teacup in the end though wasn't it? You'd have to be online to update the game anyway, unless people expected a CD ROM in the post every five minutes? You probably needed internets to be in the KS in the first place anyway! And even the most die hard solo player has surely played the odd injected event or CG, from time to time. Maintaining two BGS databases - or not - made it the right decision. A shame they hadn't realised that a bit earlier I suppose but I guess we all live and learn. It's funny how it keeps popping up though. It's the Cobra IV .. but more.

Well, as I said earlier, in my case there were personal (not technical) reasons why I wanted an offline version to exist and 'solo mode' wasn't a fair substitute. 🤷‍♀️

In terms of the launch party, many folks were angry. Steaming, actually. It kinda put a dampener on the whole celebration / party atmosphere that the event was meant to generate. What angered people most of all was that they obviously did know, but kept that information to themselves until the last possible minute... and slipped it into a newsletter. It really was very poor.

All water under the bridge now though.

Lord - Offline-gate. That was horrendous. The only thing that stopped me from flouncing off at that point was the ✌️assurance✌️that once fdev had sunset the servers, they'd release the server side code so the community could continue to play the game offline. You could get refunds for offline gate but they would only allow a refund if you hadn't played any of the alpha/beta until that point or they'd examine it on a case by case basis.

It was complicated by the fact that one of the beta levels was more expensive than the actual game but didn't give of the benefits like the LEP (just early access to the game), so there were quite a few who thought they could get a refund for the beta (citing the offline gate) and then buy the game back after it had been launched properly for the cheaper price. So you didn't know who was genuinely upset and who was trying to pull a fast one.

Even though, I think the only regrets about the kickstarter were ;-
  1. I bumped my pledge up to the DDF Level, only for it to be shut down not long after (with no god like powers either).
  2. I didn't bite the bullet and go for the fiction pack (like Drew did).
The only person I know who got a refund for Odyssey was one of the guys from Loose Screws. When they announced there was no plans for further VR development, he argued with fdev-support about the fact that they used the phrase 'No on-foot VR at launch', implied that on-foot VR was coming down the line and he wanted a refund. Fdev wasn't having any of it but instead he cited the same reasons to his credit card company and they got him is refund.

Members of this forum finding out there's systems with the same name as their avatars.
The only hope I'll have is if I change my name to something like Col Sys 8472-69-1337

Frontier haven't done anything for me (nor should they) I have yet to see any evidence the NPC names I submitted are even in the game.

There's a big thread about that in the Private Backer's forum which you should have access to... try asking in there.

Someone found my daughter's name that I'd submitted as an NPC name.
