I did chuckle when I dropped into the system, and wondered ;)

In Colonia terms, it is in a 'nice' place for me to work from, so I'd spent a week or so parked up there.

Nice.

I may give it a visit some day. I have an alt out at Jacques (Juniper Child, part of a story I was working on at the time).

Is rather a lot of pennies... But I've been playing in a system named Juniper (in the Colonia nebula) recently, is this coincidence?
Pot, kettle?

If it was £100,000 worth of refunds, would that be insignificant?

A little bit more than insignificant. Highly unlikely. There was lots of noise, but i suspect it was mainly that. Naturally i can't say that as a fact, just my supposition. And the positive PR from offering full refunds for anyone would be worth the financial hit. It would say "Here's a company that's not afraid of owning up to its missteps"

Oh, I always thought you named it... since you backed that tier.
N/m then :)

No, I backed high enough to name a station (£500) originally, as I wanted to pay tribute to my Dad who had bought me a C64 and a copy of Elite back in the day, and had passed away a few years before. At that time, I thought it was going to be offline too - so the name would continue for all eternity rather than just for as long as the game makes money for Frontier. Another reason I was cross.

Then I wanted to go to the launch party, which was £750 (and included naming a planet), so I jontied up.

System naming was in a different price bracket entirely.

I still wonder who named Salted Womb in Valac btw...
I think someone from the Marquisate reads the forums from time to time, so you never know, there might be an explanation.

I don't know if anyone from the Bloodhounds (Juniper/Marigold) does.

One of the things I like about Colonia is that so many of the systems and objects are player-named - with a little bit of Frontier moderation - as it's ended up in 70ish systems with more variety than most of the bubble has.

As far as the bubble goes, even the sillier names I think are fine.
1) Have you seen the sort of names that get put on villages, streets, etc. in real life?
2) I can entirely believe that after cataloguing a few thousand planets you'd run out of synonyms for "rock" and start going for weirder ones.

Yeah, shame they never did that, then. 🤷‍♀️
