HOTAS master race!

Haha, someone suggests bringing the PvP slider back... doesn't get received well.

And...

LOL, Lethality stating the 80/20 rule and coming to the completely wrong conclusion.

There is a time where once tech is in place, content comes together quickly. 80% of the game is finished in the last 20% of the project... so given that, it's possibly S42 is not as far off as you think.

Also, we will not see the final finished versions of any of these things in SC before we see them in S42.

Core tech for SC is core tech for SQ42. Even the flight model is not finalised yet. This is why I am not holding my breath for SQ42 anytime soon (as in, five years).

Following all the talk about SC and NFTs, I'd like to just bring a couple of examples to everyone's attention, hopefully informative. I wish I had more time - I could write for hours about NFTs and crypto.

To set the scene, note that Valve has just banned Blockchain / NFT games on Steam.

I'll give two examples of the way these games work, which hopefully will dispel some common misconceptions.

Firstly though, regarding SC and many other existing non-NFT games, I think the easiest way to introduce NFTs is with cosmetics and collectibles. Being NFTs, the cosmetics/collectibles could be made unique, and traded between players. Another possibility is the current in-game currency being converted to crypto, presumably a new "SC" token. Then they could be earned in-game just as they do now, but also bought with real money (ofc) and traded in exchanges. Importantly, CIG monetises either of these strategies by publishing new NFTs, presumably very desirable to the player base / whales. Another (rather insidious) strategy is to introduce NFT gameplay items to enhance ships/weapons/abilities - aka pay to win items. And there are many variations to these strategies - no time to elaborate.

Particularly relevant to the above is all of the discussion regarding players being able to steal other players' items. That's a minefield I refuse to enter here. :)

Some example games:

Example 1. Axie Infinity
A simple game described as "players breed and trade NFT digital pets called “Axies” in the world of Lunacia. Also, each monster is a non-fungible token. These monsters can be bought and sold on the developer’s marketplace, and the game uses the Etherum-based AXS and SLP tokens."
The marketplace for these NFTs: http://marketplace.axieinfinity.com/

Example 2. Alien Worlds
I can't see this one relating to SC, as the blockchain tokens are so deeply integrated into every aspect of this game - the gameplay, the items, the voting rights, inflation, etc. You can mine the coins in-game (slowly) or buy them with real money.
First, take a look at the gameplay / economics diagram at https://alienworlds.io/#tokenomics.
And a plethora of NFTs: Weapons, Tools, Land, Minions, Missions. In their own words, "Players may select NFT game cards for their strategy on Binance Smart Chain (BSC) and WAX, to be used for mining, fighting and missions."
And finally, the coin historical trading chart at https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/alien-worlds/. It's just like any other cryptocurrency.

Finally, look at the Partners of this game, which for example include Binance, the largest exchange in the world in terms of daily crypto trading volume. They even have their own description of the game. I don't need to elaborate on motive for these types of games by the developers and partners - making real money. Some players will also make real money, at the expense of others.

And I can't leave this topic without pointing out the potential for NFT game scams, no doubt one of the reasons Valve banned them on steam.

Genuine Roberts has a mansion, a yacht and a shipload of money.
He is neither dumb nor incompetent. The only area where he is lacking is finishing games. That's how one can tell that Holy Roberts is not God almighty!

On the other hand, the plethora of backers paid for that mansion, yacht and shipload of money. I don't know if they are competent, but their actions surely seem to be lacking purpose...
One of the biggest lies ever told is that rich people have to be smart because they have a lot of money.

I'm met and spent time with people worth tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars. I grew up in one of the most expensive and prestigious areas in the US.

Almost every single one of those millionaires was dumb as hell. But they didn't have any qualms about how they make their money (or more like how they inherited it). It gave me an early look into that lifestyle and I realized very, very quickly that it's easy to make money if you don't have any morals. That's the trick; not intelligence, hard work or merit. Just take and take and take and never, ever give any ground.

It's not hard to make money. It's really, really not. You just have to not care who you hurt, who you lie to, and who you end up leaving behind.

The roadmap itself tells anyone that its not coming anytime soon. And that's CIG's roadmap, which is about as reliable as a Harley.
Harleys are pretty reliable when you actually ride them instead of parking them in a garage and polishing them for 11 months of the year... My DC has 181,000 miles on the clock...hasn't broken down bar once since I bought it new in 1998... it shredded a drive belt 5 years ago... but that was my fault for not replacing it when I should have. Saying that, owning and riding bikes isn't the same as owning and driving a car...you need to be fairly handy with a set of spanners and have some basic mechanical skills rather than trust some buffoon in a garage to do the job right, your life depends on it. I trusted a garage to service my old Triumph once...nearly cost me a leg.

It goes without saying you have to develop a serious level of all weather riding skills when you own a bike too. Unless you life in Utah or California...it's not always going to stay sunny when you're out on the bike :)

That's DC on the right, my mates 1200 Sportster on the left...Mrs Mole in the pic too. We got caught in a blizzard whilst heading back to my mates house after a nice winter ride out (mainland Scotland)...

Lethality the indirect killer of projects, doomer of dreams, tumor of games, I had to ask https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/waiting-for-sq42/4483810
