Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

As an aside...since I don't agree with Ci¬G's flumoxing around making subscriber cosmetic armour lootable, I've melted most of mine for store credit...had enough store credit from melting the cosmetic armour alone to buy another ROC mining buggy...I CCU'd my last one for the then new and shiny ROC-Derek Smart...a foolish move since the DS is kinda crap if you're mining solo, it also doesn't fit into a Cutty black which is my preferred ROC mining runabout.

I replaced the CCU'd basic ROC with a bought in game one since they don't cost much in aUEC terms...realising recently that after the wipe I'd be stuck with the DS which I can't melt as it's now part of a game package... I knew that subbie armour would come in useful for something :)

Oh there’s some fine questions in the SM Q&A…

Can you tell us the scale of battles we will be able to have ? One on one Javelin? 10 on 10 with support ships? In initial implementation, year later, and in the final form.

What will prevent large groups of "blues", and large groups of "reds" ending up in echo-chamber shards? Social dynamics would imply large concentrations of people that will have friends and be in orgs that are of the same interests. Will there be a solution that will ensure proper mixing of good, bad, and in-between?

Imagine you are in one shard and I'm in another one. We both are in the comm-array in Yela (different shards). Now get this part of the Tony Z presentation (

). Draygan [Quanta generated NPC] arrive at the same location. But he is in both shards? Only one shard? Neither one?

Two Shards, One Ship: What happens if you have one Freelancer unstowed in two shards for Static SM? I raise this question on the slim chance that a friend and I are in his Freelancer in Shard 1 in deep space. He exits Shard 1 for a break and unfortunately, he is placed into Shard 2 by the Matchmaking system because Shard 1 reached max player capacity before he could re-join. Given persistence, he will have to spawn in his (now replicated) Freelancer Max in Shard 2, with me also being in his Freelancer in Shard 1. Or is this challenge solved because his persisting character in Shard 1 indefinitely gives him access to re-join unless I leave the area and the server cleans his character up?

How much is new content dependent on the Meshing Server now?

I'm confused by all the changing around. Does it now mean you have 2 ROCs? Why do you need 2?

It goes without saying you have to develop a serious level of all weather riding skills when you own a bike too. Unless you life in Utah or California...it's not always going to stay sunny when you're out on the bike :)

That's DC on the right, my mates 1200 Sportster on the left...Mrs Mole in the pic too. We got caught in a blizzard whilst heading back to my mates house after a nice winter ride out (mainland Scotland)...

Well, if you will live in the wild north ;)

Great photo by the way.

Its all about managing the message.

It is funny though how they left up the 1 word "When?" question, despite no when questions being a rule, and how its the most upvoted question.

It shows a lot of people are tired of CIG's deflections explanations and are wanting to know when they can expect stuff.

My guess is they will acknowledge this "When" question and basically give another long winded explanation of why they can't say anything.

Nah - that's how fdev handle the fact that predictions are hard, just look at Sally vs the Consolistas. CiG will just put it in the schedule then move it back every 6 months saying 'nearly there, just found a few more tasks that are needed'. Then invent a new requirement and quietly forget meshing was ever a thing ...

(I think the 'when' question isn't a fair one for most projects - it's hard to predict the future when it's something you haven't done before)

Harleys are pretty reliable when you actually ride them instead of parking them in a garage and polishing them for 11 months of the year... My DC has 181,000 miles on the clock...hasn't broken down bar once since I bought it new in 1998... it shredded a drive belt 5 years ago... but that was my fault for not replacing it when I should have. Saying that, owning and riding bikes isn't the same as owning and driving a car...you need to be fairly handy with a set of spanners and have some basic mechanical skills rather than trust some buffoon in a garage to do the job right, your life depends on it. I trusted a garage to service my old Triumph once...nearly cost me a leg.

I think "When will SQ42 release" is a more than fair question at this point.
