Frontier, why are you afraid of skeletons?

I was excited for JW:Evolution 2, because I naively believed that Frontier would change its design philosophy for the second game. But, after watching a number of gameplay videos, I see that this hasn't changed. It's clear that this game was designed by committee and not by developers who genuinely love the source material. And as a result, the storytelling and gameplay are shockingly uncompelling.

And just as a very concrete, specific comparison:
Operation Genesis didn't shy away from animal carcasses, skeletons, "retiring" dinosaurs, and building turrets to protect park guests. Indeed, all of the films have depicted light to moderate gore. Why is frontier so keen on sanitizing Jurassic Park? It's such a strange and confusing artistic direction. It makes the game feel less realistic and immersive. The worst part is the dinosaurs themselves. The animations, for example, are completely unrealistic, mediocre, or added for cinematic flair. There's one animation where the Tyrannosaur launches a four ton Hadrosaur around itself like a wet towel. There's no weight or realism to any of these animals. All of this would've been excusable if Frontier added official modding support. At least then we could have an authentic Jurassic Park experience by using mods. But that's never going to happen.

I'm just glad the dinosaurs eat people. 😳
I have an old memory of playing the dinosaur expansion of Zoo Tycoon when I was a kid, and laughing like crazy when I released a T-Rex and it started eating people. I'm so glad children now can experience that same joy. 😋

Fun fact: In the original Zoo Tycoon, only men could get eaten. Glad to see Frontier being more equal opportunity about that.

Back to the topic: I can take it or leave it, but - as someone who grew up with nature documentaries - it is indeed a bit odd. Nature might be beautiful, but it's not pretty.

License Product ,official modsupport, lock out console players who outsell the pc version by far. Thats a good one thank you😃 be happy you can mod at all is all say.

It’s not an intentional design choice that Frontier themselves chose so that players can’t retire dinosaurs with lethal weapons, it’s a Universal Studios stipulated rule that Frontier has to follow if they want to make a game using the Jurassic license. This is confirmed on the 18:18 mark on the video down below:

There's a metric ton of crossplatform video games which officially support mods. The JP License didn't force Blue Tongue Entertainment to censor the game.

That's extremely interesting, thank you. I only wish Frontier were more transparent in their decision making process.

That’s not how it works, times have changed and so has Universal Studios' stance on lethal weapons in Jurassic Park games.
And - let's be honest here - who actually wants that? Darting and selling them is better than killing a perfectly good animal off.

not when its actively killing people. Thee franchize went childroute . Jp was almost horror movie like back then. No we have ridiculous childiish dumb writing and cgi monsters fighting.🤷‍♂️😁 trex vs domino rex what was that? Ridiculous

So it worked in past so it should now too? Great logic.

Thank you :)

Every Zoo which stocks big game animals and large terrestrial predators own lethal firearms. And unsurprisingly, every Zoo has measures to kill animals that endanger the lives of park guests. Tranquilizers aren't magic and they certainly don't sedate on impact. In fact, it often takes 30 minutes for the animal to be sedated after impact.

I'm not argueing that. However, in JWE, it is much closer to 'magic tranquilizer' than to real life.

Well, what I can see, skeleton/corpse making would mean lots more model designing, and this game was already in the works for lots and lots of things all together. If they were to make skeleton designs for each species, I can guarantee you there would be a lot less of what is actually in the game already.

As for that claim those guys made, I can't say. Because, where did they hear/read that claim, and how exactly do they know for sure? Is it really something they know of because word from Frontier or Universal themselves said so, or is it a fantasy they came up with because it meshed well with their feelings?

The guys from Eurogamer were among those invited to play Jurassic World Evolution's first level on the 29th March 2018, along with a few other game journalists and various YouTubers. While they were all playing the game, there was a Frontier staff member on hand to give them help whilst playing, such as how to use the controls, and to answer their questions.

I would presume that whilst they were playing the Security mission, which involves tranquillising a rampaging Edmontosaurus, that they would ask the Frontier staff member at hand if lethal weapons were an option for players to choose when taking down escaped dinosaurs, only for the Frontier staffer to give out the aforementioned response.

Just want to go on record with saying that JPOG having turrets was always dumb.

From a gameplay perspective they just negated any penalty for escapes which were already not so common in JPOG. Selling or retiring, neither are all that great its just an easy out for inconvenient problems. I much prefer when the game challenges you to solve the problem or bear with the consequences if you can't. Only thing I really miss are the skeletons and that is pretty much all aesthetic as dead dinosaurs in JWE1/2 can spread disease and be scavenged all the same.

As for why these things aren't in the game, I would say its Universal who has taken a more kiddy approach and are less willing to take risks like with the JP trilogy which was far more visceral and grounded.

And exactly that's my quarrel with the game. The grounded grittiness of the Jurassic Park is lost in JWE.

Absolutely. While its dumb its enjoyable, chris and dallas are also nice actors. It could be worse and dominion has huge potential dr.grant 😍 Dinos around the world. Possibilities are endless. Dont forget Jurassic World 2015 is the third most succesfull movie EVER. Jp 93 made cinema history. This is a huge franchise. And i love it since im 8 years old.❤

Yeah, no... the original trilogy was about as grounded as a hot-aired balloon; science was frequently sacrificed for story telling... and most anything involving the T-Rex or Velociraptors were pure fantasy... and the JW movies not visceral? The pterosaur attack... watching someone get eaten alive by a mosasaur... seeing all the people and animals killed by the Indominus... the raptors turning on the humans... the Indoraptor ripping off a guy's arm and eating it... and so on... I swear, you people want to hate the new movies so much your trying to invent a new reality to justify it...

It's a game. There is no real gore in it. Lethal measures could be in the game without gore as well. If you go back to the book you could argue that not having or being willing to use lethal measures is one of the big reasons the park failed. Since the game is about making our own park we should get that option as well so we can choose if lethal measures are worth it or not. That's all.

Jwe1 campaign time averages 23 hours

Jwe2 campaign time videos are 2 hours long

I'm sure some of this time difference can be made up with the speed up time option because alot of jwe1 campaign was building a park and playing a waiting game. But that's still a gigantic drop off in campaign story. 23 hours vs 2 hours.

The dlc stories for jwe1 were several hours long as well.... I saw someone posted a jp3 chaos mode video that showed it only took 33 minute. That again is a drastic drop off in length of content.

My biggest disappointment is that the dinosaurs are still going to be seen through as just robots that do the same exact thing every time they do it. Aside from some variations in pack hunting, socializing and stuff seems to be the same animation over and over. So again frontier has dropped the ball. All you have to do is add a few more animations for each thing they do and let it randomize which animation plays out..... that would be a giant leap in replaying the game and making the dinosaurs seem more alive. They cut down the length of story material so why couldn't they put in various animations for each action?

They made a better game compared to jwe1. But they still fumbled the ball again before they really scored. Maybe it's time for the franchise to be put back in American hands where it belongs. No offense. Thanks for all that you've done frontier. I do appreciate it. But 2 games in now we expect better.
