I was excited for JW:Evolution 2, because I naively believed that Frontier would change its design philosophy for the second game. But, after watching a number of gameplay videos, I see that this hasn't changed. It's clear that this game was designed by committee and not by developers who genuinely love the source material. And as a result, the storytelling and gameplay are shockingly uncompelling.
And just as a very concrete, specific comparison:
Operation Genesis didn't shy away from animal carcasses, skeletons, "retiring" dinosaurs, and building turrets to protect park guests. Indeed, all of the films have depicted light to moderate gore. Why is frontier so keen on sanitizing Jurassic Park? It's such a strange and confusing artistic direction. It makes the game feel less realistic and immersive. The worst part is the dinosaurs themselves. The animations, for example, are completely unrealistic, mediocre, or added for cinematic flair. There's one animation where the Tyrannosaur launches a four ton Hadrosaur around itself like a wet towel. There's no weight or realism to any of these animals. All of this would've been excusable if Frontier added official modding support. At least then we could have an authentic Jurassic Park experience by using mods. But that's never going to happen.
