Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Why would this year be different? Hm... lets think about it!

Previously, we got a very small peek into Pyro at 2019. Very unfinished! Just a star and a gas cloud!

Now, they've shown us multiple planets, cloud tech for those planets, Stations, Station Interiors, Settlements they talked about in Pyro, outlaw outfits etc. etc.. and they've got a whole Studio working on Systems alone! They have more done in the system than ever!

Plus, we've seen Nyx Planets, which indicates they're confident they can work on 2 Systems simultaneously and still manage to put Pyro out in 2022! We've seen more than ever before.
Excellent. When is the game coming out?

Making assets and environments is not a challenge. When you have a bottomless money pit and no deadlines, it's actually easy. There are countless artists who can knock out the sort of work CIG produces, and CIG has had hundreds of them working full time for years. There's no magic to it, it's a very well established and well understood process that has been practiced successfully for decades.
Unfortunately it means absolutely nothing in terms of delivering those environments in game. That will only happen when CIG has walked back Roberts' mad promises far enough that they (or rather, Turbulent) reach some semblance of reality, where their substandard franken-tech can actually handle it. There's no way to know when that will be.

Am I right in thinking Drew would need to pay $120 - 138 for a Cutlass Black?
I bought a standalone Cutty Black for $96...with store credit, which is normally more expensive. Game packages are around $110 like you said but buying in with a Nomad starter package then upgrading to a Cutty black is the way to go, saves around $20 on buying in with a Cutty Black package direct...10 years insurance too. The IAE versions are good value at the moment :)

Another random sidebar post 3hr playthrough ramble: Reading the blurb on various wikis, I'm struggling to understand why the 'Space Mil-sim' crowd that they seem to be trying to cater for with their combined arms approach aren't getting a bit uppity about having 7.62 battle rifles with effective ranges of <50m

On the plus side though, seems to have worked out for him in a good way.
Not a unique phenomenon to Star Citizen either of course. Why he choses to mention Star Citizen as the particular arbitor of his sloth and additictive tendencies I find touching...as I'm sure the refund sub did too... but having spent 5,500 hours in ED with probably a similar amount of time in SC... and still managing a healthy and varied lifestyle, I'd suggest the problem is purely of his own making rather than conveniently apportioning blame to a particular video game ;)

Sometimes we need something to blame for our self perceived failures, it's rare when people perceive it as a fault in themselves and not one imposed from outside. Fact is he could have still gone camping and walking even when he played SC, it's just a matter of walking away from the game for a few days or a week. People blame all sorts of things on video games, violence, satanism and etc, it makes people happier to see the fault as an external one imposed on them rather than a fault in themselves. Oh well.

I think you underestimate the ease with which you can make folk part with their money.

Been playing a bit more today and to be honest, I'm starting to warm to it in a manner I haven't done in the previous years free-fly events. I'm seriously at the point where I'd almost buy the base pack (nothing more than that mind as these 'prices' are a bit insane).

That's why i added the "oh humans" but. Humans can be really dumb at times.

You know its very easy to throw some assets together? Especially for a company like CIG and show it off and say ta-da! Look what we've done!

which indicates they're confident they can work on 2 Systems simultaneously

OMG! A company with around 700 employees are confident they can work on 2 systems simultaneously! Quick! Alert the press! Never been done before!

Believe it when you actually see it in game and not a moment before. CIG are masters of dangling the carrot in front of backers.

And remember, CIG have said on many occasions, no second system until they get server meshing working. Where is Tier 0 server meshing "planned" for? Isn't that like end of next year?

Oh, i remember him. I had the occasional run-in with him on /r/sc years ago. I don't recall him throwing out personal insults like some of them, but his faith shone through strongly.

And surprise surprise (not) he's being downvoted hard. Amazing how quickly they turn on their own once they become a suppressive person.

Guy even says he has no ill will towards the game and hope it does succeed and yet they still downvote.

At least the comments are decent.

And the trigger? Survival mechanics.

Maybe they like the alpha enough to throw money at it ?
Something as stupid as "I enjoy it so I buy it".
But for sure you can't believe it because you don't like SC.

Enjoy it all you want. $700 on a computer game that isn't even released and with such a long and troubled history is completely whack in my opinion. That's what I find crazy.

We've been down this road before. Enjoyment, personal money, free to do what you want with it, but doesn't stop me being amazed by it all.

I seem to remember Drew announcing his retirement from playing Elite, but this last week I've noticed him streaming the game twice. Weird.

Drew playing SC is funny though. I do hope he bought an immersive chariot.

Drew has been talking about leaving ED for a long time now. He seems to have trouble actually doing it.

But still, how's now discovered star citizen, so there is a good chance he will finally quit ED now he has something else to play.

Will have to see if SC keeps him engaged for any amount of time.
