Newcomer / Intro Why can't I go directly from my ship to concourse?

So, ships interiors were not added since you think it would be cool first few times, but after that players would be annoyed to have to walk in their ship each time...So you added hangar... Which I have to sprint for a minute each time... Two ways... Splendid!

Why can't I disembark into concourse directly and board my ship from concourse directly? Or why can't you put the elevator closer to the ship? What is this, each time I dock I have to spend at least 3-4 minutes to reach terminal from my ship and go back just to take mission?

immersion.
I'd call it rather necessity ... either it is due still ongoing separation Horizons vs Odyssey or there is planned more accessible places for the lift. For example surface of planetary cities can be from ships reached directly via SRVs (from which you can then disembark), but not directly for foot (which doens't make much sense, not even technically). Im quite sure there are several functionalities missing, very likely one from many things linked with hasted Odyssey release.

It's amazing how we can teleport out of our ship, but only as far as the bottom of the steps. It would be quicker just to walk/ride down them

Ways to get to the elevator quicker:
  • Increased Sprint Duration mod for your EDO suit; run for longer before you get out of breath.
  • Choose a smaller ship and marvel at how much time you've saved compared to that Corvette.

You can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but never all the people all the time.

Some people want immersion. The problem is that if you push that then you end up with SC, high detail, small area, lots of bugs.

Some people just want to teleport to their destination. They are not interested in the journey. If you take that to extremes you take away the emersion and the control and end up with something like EVE.

Some people want to open the game, shoot a load of stuff and then teleport to the next fight.

East is east and west is west and never the twain will meet.

Done the first one, for ships, depends on where the drop off is, for python it's way faster if you have side door, but you still get dropped in front.

But in any case, the point is to satire the point of view where they made meaningful gameplay instead of actually being able to walk inside your ship.

The twain meets in X4 Foundations. I can get off my ship and walk to where I want to go, or I can teleport (once I research this technology) directly to the manager's office / bar / shipyard terminal / wherever I want. I often will choose to walk from my ship to my destination, one, because I lean towards the immersion camp, and two, it allows me to meet, interview, and hire new crew members for my ship.

Oh, and when I do choose to walk, there are these "people mover" ramps like you see in the IRL airports, which makes makes moving from my ship to my destination all the faster. That said, there are times when I'm in a hurry and will just beam down to my destination. Since Elite already skips walking through the ship (not optional), I don't see why an option to also skip walking through the hanger can't be added as well. It need not be teleport, it can just be a form of fast travel / cutscene / fade-to-black trope used in countless games and film / TV.

Does X4 Foundation have planets you can walk / drive on? Does it have multiplayer? From what I read, no. So there are several games out there, each different and each written to appeal to as many people as possible, but never achieving the goal of satisfying everyone. What you are advocating is a customisable game that can adapt to the whim of the player that is using it. You have pointed out one change you would like and one option you would like added. There may be things that you like doing that others do not. Should options be added to bypass that as well? Eventually you would end up with so many options to bypass functionality that you could customise it so that there is a single button that says "Win game". If X4 has what you want then play that. However, I bet it has something you would like changed. QED

Agreed, I also like that system, there is always elevator really close by and even without any tech upgrades, you can always press shortcut to go to your ship, no fuss, just appear in cockpit. But no, in elite, you can run and get out of breath even with upgraded maverick :D

Does it matter? Do all cars have airbags, do all cars have cruise control? No, but most of them have 4 wheels and all legal road vehicles have turn signals. Sometimes when something works and it's good idea, it can be added elsewhere as well.

Ofc they are not the same game with same features, but that doesn't mean you can't draw inspiration for something that is built in better way. Most companies follow good design, that's why most cars in same category look the same, most phones look pretty much the same, etc...

And nobody is avocation customizable game that can adapt to the whim of the player, I don't even know where you drew that from. Basically, what you are saying is that we got what we got and we should not complain or try to improve it? Sounds like same pitch that several failed countries in the past were selling.

I am saying that you want an option because you don't like wasting the 20 seconds it takes to walk to your ship (add an option). There are other people that don't like flying long distances to outer planets (Add another option) and those that think that FDS jumps take too long (Add another option). Now I can disable all 3 options and teleport from the bubble to colonia.

To take you analogy. You wouldn't buy a car and then complain that it did not come with a particular option on the Ford forums. No, you would look around at all the available cars and pick one that had the most options that you want. You would accept that it may not have everything that you want. You wouldn't campaign for doors to be optional, because they took too long to open.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not advocating that we don't try and influence ED being changed. Its just that I find this a particularly silly one. I'd prefer to campaign for things to be added to the game, not taken away.

*It's already quite telling that I've never heard the plural of the word concourse in this forum...
Now I would agree with you that the concourse is bland and virtually the same on every spaceport and megaships are not much different, but I would advocate adding more variety, not removing it all together. Otherwise you end up with click one button get mission, click another button, buy suit and weapons, click another button kill enemy. All from the comfort of your ship. You might as well not have starports. Just allow you to order a takeaway from anywhere in space.

I enjoy the experience of visiting new and different places. Wondering what is around the next corner. Unfortunately that is not the case with ED. You know exactly what is on the other side of the turbo lift. Its the same as everywhere else. Planets have more variety, but still not enough. So I would say add more variety, don't just delete the game piecemeal until you have nothing.

What part of the game are you so desperate to get to by bypassing everything else? If it is just the pew pew then would arena mode be your option?

It's much longer than 20 seconds on most ships which are larger than small. DBX might be 20 seconds if the door is at the back. And you have to run both ways. Flying to outer planets can be avoided in most cases, skip missions that are sending you 200.000 ls in a system, it is clearly stated. FSD jumps are tied to loading screens, so those can't be influenced. Not sure how you got to teleporting from bubble to colonia, but ok.

So I am not sure what do you mean by taking away from the game, the only taking away would be to optionally remove the long hangar and corridor you have to run each time, which is literally just empty hangar and a corridor. Why can't we just have a disembark button if I want to admire my ship (from the outside) on the platform and another button to go to concourse directly, so just spawn on the other side of the elevator. The feature to "teleport" already exists when you magically spawn in a drop ship after you finish foot combat zone.

you won't find a valid justification for these kinds of time sinks with no associated gameplay... and they exist all over elite.

their purpose if they have any at all is just to slow the player down.

which is why the official explanation for no ship interior disembark isn't believed by anyone.
