CG predictions...

This isn't the first time he's spoken like this. A previous message (after Cornsar, I think?) had him talking about how the opportunity would soon come to "remove the alien threat from the galaxy".

Wherever that is...

I read it in the early hours. The but that stuck out at the time was claim that Aegis was finished.
Clearly false given the CG in Meene and the fact I was on the Golden Stag at the time.
For myself I'd say we do what we have to in our defence. (Though I'm extremely interested in Ram Tah's results.)
Is Salvation taking us towards M.A.D. with the goids or will it bring them to negotiate finally?
We've only found 2 other civilizations in the Galaxy and one of them is dead.

We'll probably need the superweapon for self defense against the Thargoids, especially if the
Klaxians
show up, since the post-Cornsar invasion shows that our current AX strength is nowhere near sufficient. But my trust in Salvation to be responsible with this weapon is rapidly dropping.

A narcissistic genocidal megalomaniac is exactly what we need right now to push back against the Thargoids. And when he's no longer needed, someone can take him behind the shed. I'm not loyal to the person, I'm loyal to results. And in that Salvation beats Aegis. Now if there were an Aegis reformation project, I'd support that, too. Always good to have more than one weapon on your ship.
Depends, what the response is. We may find out in a few hours as a new Thargsday approaches. If Cornsar resulted in 20 systems getting hit does Tri-Hammer mean it will be another 60 stations this time? Ever heard of King Pyrrhus?

Sure, we are all Kings in the Empire by now.
Ok time for a quick history lesson. King Pyrrhus of Epirus defeated the Romans at the Battle of Heraclea 280 BCE and the Battle of Asculum 279 BCE. These victories were achieved at great cost to his own forces. Plutarch claimed that after the Battle of Asculum, Pyrrhus said "If we are victorious in one more battle against the Romans, we shall be utterly ruined". This gives rise to the term of a 'Pyrrhic Victory'

Welcome to Thargsday! We expect the 'goid response to Salvation's actions in moments; feel free to grab a seat to watch the show, free supplies of popcorn are available on your left. :D

Servers are back up.

Galnet's Tharg report says stations in Maia, Merope, and Delphi are on fire again, but I don't see new incursions there or anywhere else, and old incursions are still being whittled down.

Is anyone else reminded of Thomas Dorne from the Oaken Point logs?

A GIFT FROM A THIEF

16 DEC 3307
Pilots’ Federation ALERT
Detective Erik Gunnarson has claimed that the Winking Cat thief has something planned for the weeks ahead.
“After our investigation into the Jokers’ Deck gambling circle, Wolfe and I were hired to track down their stolen ceremonial playing card. The good news is that we now have the card in our possession. We can hardly claim credit, however: it was posted to us by the one who stole it!”
“The ancient joker card arrived via a courier service, with no data as to its point of origin. But the playing card now has text stamped on the back, which I’m convinced is intended to be a public message.”
“It simply reads ‘The hunt is on!’ and is followed by two sets of numbers:
‘1, 2, 3: 16th to 30th’
‘4, 5, 6: 23rd to 6th’.
At the bottom is a drawing of – you guessed it – a smirking, winking cat’s face.”
“It’s speculation, of course, but some of these numbers must be dates. Perhaps this ‘hunt’ is scheduled to happen over the next three weeks. Are we being invited to hunt the Winking Cat, or will something else be the prize?”
“The feline thief has been busy of late, purloining everything from prized artwork to prototype robots. Entertainment mogul Oscar Goldsun recently reported that his private collection of rarities had been hit, and there are rumours that WorldCraft corporation’s vaults were somehow broken into. How that crime spree connects to this message is a mystery that we’ve yet to crack.”
