Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I didn't shoot him when he jumped in, instead I keep bumping him, that's harder than you thought to bump out his shield. I intended to bump him to death but FSD charged as hull down below 80%, I was forced to open fire... 🤷‍♀️

I use the same bi-weave percussion attack for wing targets as well. I still refuse to fly a purpose built combat ship so with my limited skills, a straight up fight to try to take down the multiple higher threat wing targets never work in my multi-purpose ship. (I see you using a vette. Doesnt that steamroll them if you do decide to fire away?)

They always tend to charge FSD after a while but when I open fire at that point, it somehow seems to make them cancel the FSD.

End of first week as a CMDR...

Haven't died recently, which is a plus
Got rid of the Sidewinder and replaced with a bog standard Hauler.
Made ~80 Mil exploring and upgraded to an ASP Explorer (About an hour ago) Again, bog standard.

Unlocked 2 Engineers and now have to figure out how to get materials - Mining?

Still a nasty smell of N00b in the cockpit, but things are improving.
I can now fuel scoop faster than I can honk the system :)

Stay tuned o7

Sounds like excellent progress!

If you're interested in video-type guides for material finding, this has some decent stuffs.

And welcome to the game (and the thread)!

Many thanks - I think I have spent more time researching than flying!

To get engineering materials... that's going to haunt you for the remainder of your ED career.

But the low level engineering only requires low level mats, and only raw mats for the lowest level. And the easiest way to get those is to get an SRV and go surface prospecting. For the start, any planet will do - e.g. those the engineers sit on, right outside the door.

The SRV's scanner will lead you to the interesting spots - for a guide, you used to be able to check on https://www.wavescanner.net/ (for now, I just get a "bad gateway"). Otherwise, the entry in the wiki looks reasonable https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Wave_Scanner

There are other types of mats (data, manufactured, guardian, thargoid) and other, maybe more efficient means of getting at them - but you're going to need the Wavescanner (and the SRV) for a lot of them, so better become used to it.

Indeed. I'm not a fan of the drive-by friend request from what looks like a complete random...
I have a few of these. I haven't encountered them in game since. There are others I have accepted and then unfriended after they attacked me in whatever ship I was in whenever they saw me.

One of the current ones, when asked why, said they friend request everyone they see, they've got around 2800 friends in their list apparently...

Well I have no clue who they are, and since I play Solo only they could not have seen me anywhere in game. I just deleted the requests. If you can't be bothered to talk to me before sending such a request, I figure we have nothing to talk about :)

So I was reading the thread about the Winking Cat stuff going on, and realized that my alt CMDR could make very good use of 10 million credits and a free Imperial Courier.

He's still in the starting Sidewinder, D-rated so it has a jump range of about 20LY. He had a balance of 6 million. The system in question was about 200LY away, but have fuel scoop, will travel. So off I went.

I had to buy a DSS and an SRV, but I was able to get over there.

Here he is admiring his shiny new ship he didn't expect to have :)

My vette is not full G5 engineered yet, the target wing of 4 (1xFDL, 3x Vulture) are expected to be engineered (threat lv6, based on previous encounter), so they will cook fast me instead.

Funny thing is that, if you attack the assassin target (FDL in this case) when he charge FSD, the whole wing will not return fire...:devilish:

...
And just to mix things up a bit, I took a 'wetwork' mission.:poop:
It was rubbish.

...
Actually what's need to be done in wetwork missions? Looks like I should stick with assassin & massacre missions...

And also what's those covert missions? The payouts are tempting... but I hate doing illegal missions, don't get me wrong, I hate them just because I need to deal with the fines/bounty.

I'm back at my little home area, at a quiet place of the bubble. No one is playing Horizons BGS anymore, so it's fun, i'm overturning governments and factions all by myself! Some parked fleet carriers are all that's left, lights still on, but there's no traffic in the systems..
May be its a good time for me to pledge to some super power?? Still have no cue for what to do after pledging to get those precious powerplay modules....

Pledge and earn merits - the wiki article used to be good enough for me.
If you want to support the hardcore power players, check their forum/discord so you don't work against their efforts.
You can earn merits by transporting pamphlets (or prisoners) for any power, but that's either expensive or boring or both, due to the way those are rationed to you. Killing enemy powerplay ships (players or NPCs) in the right systems is faster and (for me) more fun (especially if I can manage for those ships to belong to Denton Patreus 😁).
