I'm kinda in the same boat as
@Intrepid3D. Star Citizen scratches an itch in a way that only Star Citizen can. We're both in the same boat where we know exactly who and what Ci¬G are and equally know exactly what the 'game' we play is (or isn't)...but there's simply nothing like it...similar, certainly...but whilst that may be enough for some or an excuse to quite rightly lay heavy on Ci¬G's marketing tactics as a reason not to play, I've tried enough of those similar style of games to realise they aren't enough for me.
When something does come along that fills the same niche...and there will be something eventually...I'll be the first to relegate Star Citizen to the 'also played' bin and head off to new pastures. Until then, I'll let Star Citizen scratch that particular gaming itch and be reasonably content spending my time doing it.
TLDR-can see the appeal of the game, so definitely no more money for CIG and Merry Christmas!
I managed to stay in game a bit longer than usual last night. A while ago, I set my graphics to low, because that makes sense. Saw a website with suggestions, and it said keep everything high or very high or whatever. That makes absolutely no sense, but I tried it and it worked..well, better than before.
I holed up in Area 18, which is the same place I started out in years ago. This time, after running around for about 20 minutes, I accidentally found the path to the transport to the starport, which obviously wasn't accessible all those years ago. And "accidentally" meaning I thought I'd checked all ways to go, then found it in a place I must have ran past.
I was able to see that there is only one elevator per area, or something. I didnt know that was how they work till I read it in here a while back. It's sorta funny to watch that do its thing. If you're in the right spot, the elevator passes through you, like the kid in Poltergeist, into it's berth. (Is that the right word for that?)
Prior to the elevator, I saw a lot of half bodies or bodies with torso missing etc. Do you realize how many pages of complaints that would generate in forums here?
A lot, if not all, of the objects seem to have a mind of their own. I think SC may need to hire AI psychiatrists for the objects in game, so the objects, like plants or vending machines, can decide before rendering if they want to be there or not. The way it seems now is they're not so sure.
I made it into space, got a route plotted but kinda forgot how to activate it and got blown up by an NPC ship. So I woke up, ran to the terminal, claimed my ship, waited but liked the timer/price thing, then watched the elevator again, then launched. This time I was able to do a jump. While in the jump, I got out of my chair. Walked to the door, and brought up the options. I didnt click anything, but maybe it saw a mousemove as something, and anyways, the door opened and I climbed out of the ship...while in the jump. Well, I kinda died.
I think all that lasted about 1.5 hours and though it was a hastle getting to my ship the first time, the second time seemd quicker for sure. So I can say I can see more the appeal this has. But that has nothing to do with the scam part. In fact, seeing the appeal and seeing a few things work a little bit makes things worse. That's because overall, the game as they tout it, I dont think is possible. They promise a lot more stuff than is possible right now. If they sold the game as it is now, or said pledge to this so we can "try" to add things, that's not promising things. It's a fine, seemingly silly line, but here's what it boils down to. And I know...broken record here, but the more money they get, the more they have no reason to progress. A lot of people, including a number of people who participate in this thread, are happy with the game as it is now so let me put it this way, to those who are enjoying the game now. Wouldn't you enjoy it more if they had 10 systems? Wouldn't you enjoy it more if they had 1000 folks? If so...then stop giving them money. They could have 30 systems sitting there ready to go, but why would they release any of it, and potentially change their income as it is now? This has to be a forced thing to happen or they can keep doing nothing and are still in the gravy. Free them from this very tempting distraction called money.
Merry Christmas
