New 25 essential habitat animals META-WISHLIST

I would prefer them to add Pere David’s deer simply because of their conservation status and bringing them from the verge of extinction efforts.

I think that spieces already saved or being saved by directly zoo’s or zoo connected programs and efforts really deserve their place in the game even more than some other more popular species:

Père David’s deer
Przewalski horse
Scimitar horned oryx
Addax
Arabian oryx
Bontebok
Golden headed lion tamarin
Lion tailed macaque
Somali wild donkey
Dama gazelle
Amur leopard
California condor
But some of those are very niche species in captivity. The California condor in particular. Yes it has a compelling conservation narrative but it’s only found in a handful of zoos, all in California apart from, I think, one in Mexico.

The Andean condor in contrast is found in zoos all over the world but still faces threats. It would be nice to get both but if we could only get one, given how limited the ultimate lineup could be (and of course it’s a bird so it’s theoretical) I would hope it would be the Andean condor because this is a zoo building game and it’s a far, far more versatile and widely available choice.

My main problem with sloths is everyone is picking the wrong kind. Two toed sloths are common in captivity, but three toed sloths need a very specific diet and only one institution has kept them alive long term, the Dallas World Aquarium, and even there the mortality rate has been… let’s say controversial.
I think most people have been simply voting "Sloth" since the first iteration of the meta wish list? And then they were considered to be the most iconic species, the brown throated three-toed, and added as so to the list? In the later iterations of the wish list, people started using the full name more often, probably having learnt it. I wonder how many direct vs indirect votes the brown throated three-toed sloth received? Perhaps @random goat can enlighten us on this.

Also Happy New Year, Everyone!

I've just been to a desert nature reserve last week, with scimitar and arabian oryx, addax, and somali wild donkey. Really made me want the in the game, even more than usual.

Nice job, but some I see some inconsistencies in your lists: some animals appear in two continents, but other animals found in several continents appear only in one of them, making a false vision of the most wanted animals of each continent.

The most requested animal from North America is the wolverine, despite the fact this animal is also found in Europe, Asia or the Arctic (which is not a continent).

The muskox would also be the second most wanted animal from North America.

The raccoon dog can't be in the Europe list, but in the Asia list.

The Przewalski horse, saiga antelope, red fox and red deer should be also in the Asia list, not only in Europe.

The dromedary should also be in the Africa list.

You can say these are the 12 most wanted animals from each continent. They are the 12 most popular animals from each continent bearing in mind that some animals from those continents which are even more popular have been put in other continent to make room for some less popular animals.

They are a Invasive Species here, so if the List is supposed to include those, it's ok
If invasive species are supposed to be included, they should be included in all continents, making the red fox or dromedary appear in the Oceania list, for example, or the normal raccoon in Europe too.

So every list should just be

Europe
Red fox
Walrus
Wolverine
Wild Boar

Asia
Red fox
Walrus
Wolverine
Wild Boar

North america
Red fox
Walrus
Wolverine
Wild Boar
Etc.

Oceania
Dromedary
Red Fox
Wild Boar

That's a terrible idea 😳

Also this is like the sixth time I've made these lists. You never said anything before (No one else did either) why now suddenly lol?

If you make a list of the most popular animal of ech continent, yes, the lists would have repeated animals. It's false that the mountian goat is the 12th most popular North American animal. It's a terrible idea, but at least is not a lie...

So it looks like..if we excluded the capybara (because it's numbers are just so overwhelming for that one particular species) Asia and Africa are still the most requested by total number of votes. Including the Capybara of course puts South America solidly in the lead.

Asian animals- 941 total votes
African animals - 937 total votes
Oceanian animals - 834 total votes
South American animals- 814 (without Capybara and without a 12th animal) 1050 with Capybara
European animals - - 637 total votes
North American animals - 524 total votes
Arctic/Antarctic animals - 400 total votes

I'd count the birds, but it's a good point that most people don't vote for birds, or if they do it's for totally ground based birds (which is what I do).

Edit - of course this doesn't take into account the point about animals being on more than one continent, as pointed out above. that's a good point. I'd probably shift the Wolverine particularly to either Europe or North America, which would up those vote counts dramatically.

I never said it was a lie.

I only said it was a terrible idea (to include animals in multiple continents).

I went down the metalist (like I always do when making these lists) and I picked a continent for each species...How is that a false vision of the most requested animals?

You want musk ox in North America instead of Europe, it's not a false vision, it's just YOUR VISION lol.

The only thing that's inconsistent is I put Raccoon Dog in Europe (they are introduced species to Europe). I've had this conversation on this forum before. However, everything else is consistent and found naturally occurring within their respective continents.

The only other "inconsistency" could be I included habitat birds for only Oceania.

The Raccoon would also need to be added to Asia because there's also a Population of them in Japan. They are the Descendants of former Pets that were released after the Anime Adaptation of Rascal: A Memoir of a Better Era became extremely popular and many People wanted to have a Raccoon as a Pet like the Main Character

That's what I mean, including multiple animals might be a terrible idea, but not including them is telling lies about the ranking of each continent. The 5th most wanted animal from Africa is not the caracal, is the dromedary. Therefore, the greater kudu shouldn't be in your list of 12 animals because is the 13th. You decided to put the dromedary in Asia, making the kudu appear instead of another Asian animal if you had put the dromedary in Africa. So your list is subjective, not objective. That's all I'm saying.

Dude, dromedary are naturally found in Asia and Africa (actually wild dromedary are extinct...populations in Asia/Africa are domestic dromedary that have become feral populations, but I digress).

So I could put Dromedary in ASIA or in Africa.....I chose Asia! Wanna know why? Because on the metalist there are FAR MORE POPULAR ANIMALS FROM AFRICA THAN ASIA 😳

I could omit sumatran/javan rhinos (and I did) they had 25 votes combined.

Or I could leave out Kudu and Colobus monkey's (they had 35 votes each). It was a no brainer. Africa is WAY more popular, plus we already have an Asian Rhinoceros in the game (Indian Rhinoceros) so I omitted the less popular sumatran/javan rhino's and moved dromedary over to Asia....because I've done this like six times by now and have actually put some thought into this....with all due respect 😅

Ocelot and Coati are found in Central America and even parts of US and Mexico. While not idealistic for a North America pack...it is 100% accurate (the carribbean and central america are north american) I could have included Striped Skunk (17 votes) or Tamandua (with 24 votes) more people wanted Tamandua so I made it fit into South America, while keeping everything accurate.

And I guess wallaby should be added to Europe since they're found in Scotland.

Most people dont vote for birds in that thread... I wonder why. Perhaps, because only ground ones are allowed? People want them to fly.

This is usual result anyone can find at reddit/twitter. Poll made 3 days ago. I dont need to explain more.

"Dude", with all due respect, next time you claim an absolute truth like the "12 most wanted animals" you could explain the criteria you have applied to elaborate such a truth. Then, people like me won't wonder about the personal choices you've made because so far we can't guess what you are thinking, only what you write.

But isn't that Population extremely small? If extremely small Populations would get included, the Greater Rhea could also be added to Europe due to a Herd (or is it still Swarm for big flightless Birds?) of them living in Germany 🙃

That was me being sarcastic.

And "dude" was a little rude, but so was saying it was a false vision of the most wanted species lol. (Also, I did make 6 other lists and never needed to elaborate on the criteria I have applied. And I didn't feel like I had to this time).
