I think most people have been simply voting "Sloth" since the first iteration of the meta wish list? And then they were considered to be the most iconic species, the brown throated three-toed, and added as so to the list? In the later iterations of the wish list, people started using the full name more often, probably having learnt it. I wonder how many direct vs indirect votes the brown throated three-toed sloth received? Perhaps @random goat can enlighten us on this.

Also Happy New Year, Everyone!
That's pretty much the case indeed. Unfortunately I can't really tell how many direct and indirect votes the brown throated three-toed sloth had but from what I recall while adding the votes it could be close to 50/50.
Most people dont vote for birds in that thread... I wonder why. Perhaps, because only ground ones are allowed? People want them to fly.

This is usual result anyone can find at reddit/twitter. Poll made 3 days ago. I dont need to explain more.
That's true, which makes me think that what many people want is actually aviaries and flying mechanics more than actual birds per se.
As much as I like birds myself, all I want is a system that does them justice. But besides that, if I were to choose 25 animals again (even with flying birds included), probably 15-18 of them would still be mammals. I have the feeling that many people feel this way too. They want the tools to have proper birds, but they also want their 'essential' mammals even more and just a few ground-dwelling birds (secretary bird, pelican, crane).

Then I guess the two could potentially be really close in terms of direct votes? Interesting to know.

Honestly it’s kinda crazy how little frontier has done with birds. Only three in the game at launch, and then a whole two years later we’ve doubled it to six. That’s how many habitat reptiles we had at launch(yes Komodo dragon was deluxe but you could get it day one so I’m counting it).

Whether we actually get full fledged aviaries or not I definitely think frontier needs to add some more birds to the roster.

For me an animal pack dedicated to ground birds would be a real treat with pelicans, goose, cranes, storks, ground hornbills, shoebills, Argus and the list goes on and on.

And a separate animal pack for flying birds.

But for me still the mammals from meta wishlist have the highest priority to the game

Yes, your votes were added Croco

Sorry if I'm a bit harsh here, but why can't you do like literally everyone else and post just your 5 additional animals? I don't know if it was on purpose or just a lapse but either way it takes barely no effort to cooperate so I'm not forced to check what your 5 actual new animals are, on top of all the other lists I have to deal with. Your new list contains not 5 but 13 new animals compared to your original list so I'm obviously not adding it.
My animals just changed a bit because of the past couple of packs and my new views on particular species for the game

  • Green Peafowl
  • American Flamingo
  • Lyrebird (only found out a few Days ago that they seem to only fly to sleep in Trees, so I really hope we'll get them someday)
  • Gentoo Penguin
  • Emu
  • Mute Swan
  • Mallard Duck

Those are already more than what we currently have in the Game and I didn't even need 2 Minutes to come up with those, so it should be relatively easy for Frontier to come up with a good Roster for a Bird DLC. It would be nice if we would get a Bird Pack, then a normal DLC and after that a Aviary Pack

I would like to add some which further came to my mind in 2 minutes:
Shoebill
Secretary bird
Kiwi
Greater Rhea
Pelican
Crane
Goose
Heron
...
There are really lots of ground birds which could be added

There are literally just 6 birds in the game including expansions which i think is criminal.

6 birds (and 2 of them are penguins). In a ZOO game. I really hope they are planning a big DLC to remedy that because just like most of you pointed out there are TONS of ground or water dwelling birds that could have been added already without the need of flying mechanics.

Of the top of my head: grey crowned crane, red crowned crane, secretary bird, kiwi, emu, greater rhea, ducks and geese (any), swans (any), scarlet ibis, roseatte spoonbill, marabou stork, shoebill, golden pheasant (or any other galliforms tbh) and lot more but i think those are the most "popular" or "common" in zoos.

That's against the rules, which is random goat's point. Any edits to your previous list aren't going to be counted, so you need to choose only five new ones, not thirteen. Random goat is frustrated because everyone else has managed to follow those instructions.

I voted only the kiwi in this metawishlist because It is a non flying Bird. I voted cranes, pelicans, ducks or secretary Bird in other list, because they are able to fly.
I want other non-flying birds as pheasants, rhea or emu but there aren't room enough in this list.
Despite of this, I think Frontier is aware of we want birds so badly. I don't know what are they waiting for...

So it looks like..if we excluded the capybara (because it's numbers are just so overwhelming for that one particular species) Asia and Africa are still the most requested by total number of votes. Including the Capybara of course puts South America solidly in the lead.

Asian animals- 941 total votes
African animals - 937 total votes
Oceanian animals - 834 total votes
South American animals- 814 (without Capybara and without a 12th animal) 1050 with Capybara
European animals - - 637 total votes
North American animals - 524 total votes
Arctic/Antarctic animals - 400 total votes

I'd count the birds, but it's a good point that most people don't vote for birds, or if they do it's for totally ground based birds (which is what I do).

Edit - of course this doesn't take into account the point about animals being on more than one continent, as pointed out above. that's a good point. I'd probably shift the Wolverine particularly to either Europe or North America, which would up those vote counts dramatically.
If you exclude the first animal of every continent every land has a similar number of votes. Africa and Asia are not more requested.

On the subject of sloths I have to confess I'm part of the "problem." I voted for the three-toed sloth based entirely on its perceived popularity from the first poll, and it being the much more iconic sloth design. I knew I'd only seen two-toed sloth in captivity, but when I voted I had no idea that three-toed sloths were practically nonexistent in zoos. And I just wanted a sloth, so I voted for the one that seemed like it'd make the most impact. Anyway I'm obviously not asking for a vote change or anything, just providing a bit of insight as someone who intentionally voted for the "wrong" sloth before coming around on the other one, lol.
