COMPLETED CG Caine Massey Mining Initiative

just a guess but as others allready posted because many hate mining and are burned out from last cargo run CG...
So having say a CG give away Efficient and long range and plasma slug PAs would mean burned our players would miss that option...
A war/blockade story with tech broker unlocks would have been better as both empire and feds have items that could still be added and those burned out could pay via mats at a later day at tech broker...
Though I'd feel a bit forced to take part, depending on how progress looks :p

But yeah, I think player fatigue and/or somewhat "chaining" players to the Bubble is something that would be nice to discuss, especially with CMs/devs.

Personally, I'd like week-long, "grindy" CGs with unique/highly desirable rewards once a month, and maybe shorter, more skippable ones between them (ie Thursday to Sunday evening ?) to act as filler or just advance the "story".
Imho it'd be kinda balanced, between the sense of community and feeling of an evolving galaxy (or at least Bubble) on one hand and the ability to explore a bit, or work on BGS, etc without necessarily missing something on the other.

The results are pretty obvious, as they always are with competitive Community goals like this; the winner is determined in the first 12 hours, and the rest of it is just window dressing.
I don't know that that's how this one is playing out though. The totals delivered so far are so small - a single Cutter load just about gets you into Top 10 today! - I'm inclined to think that the bulk of the mined goods out there are still sitting in carriers in mining systems. Plus with such low profits, the folks who get really invested in this one will mostly be doing it for RP story reasons, not necessarily dogpiling onto the winning side.

So my feeling is, there won't be a clear winning side at least until the mining carriers start rolling in, probably towards the end of the weekend.

The Mining hotspots are so close to sale station . Dont expect players are jumping the carrier...
Just swap to armoured cargo transport to deliver the goods... Its 20lys (40 roundtrip) to the Bromelite hotspot and back...
Haz res is ~108ly -111ly...

Nah, feds started to snowball since the nightshift.
63k vs 109k -- that's quite a difference and it's getting bigger and bigger

Edit: and while i do have 2k on my carrier, i do wonder if it does any good to deliver them to the losing side.

I really do wish there were some balancing factor for CGs like this. I look at it and think, "Okay, I can mine maybe 300t/hour; if I mined 8 hours a day for the next 5 days, I'd mine about 12000 tons. The CG is 40k apart and growing. Therefore, there's no point in participating."

Only, I'm not the only person thinking this. Doubtless there are others out there with the same thoughts, not bothering because our individual effort feels pointless.

That's why CGs should at least give some sort of decal for getting in the top 10. Like, a bronze star for 1 time in top 10, 3 silver stars for 3 times, 5 gold stars for 5 times, and a large platinum star for 10 times.

That way I at least have a reason to stay in the top 10, even if the rest of the CG is pointless.

To be fair, it takes well over two hours to mine a cutterload of these minerals. That's the rough equivalent of maybe 15 loads of commodities in a trade CG, or 12000t for top 10.

I got to 1100 tonnes mined and thought “why am I doing this cg?”

I might do a bit more but it seems low value. Mining equipment price reduction? To go mining we have to buy that equipment first. Before the discount. Also everyone else gets the “reward” too.

Make me a huge mining laser and I’m game.

I would love to have a second small mining laser that was given out as a reward in a previous mining CG. They are way better than the Mining Lances.

Indeed, now we are at the end of the weekend and the 2x difference in both totals delivered and players contributing appears to be holding stable. Probably safe to say that's about where the final result will fall on this one.

** looks at the 1700 gall and sam tucked away on his carrier along with the 2500 plat that came along with it **

Wait... Should I not be doing it like this?

(honestly the collection rate of gall and sam in a double plat hotspot is a little slower than brom hot spot. but it's hard to cry about the collection rate when i'm a half billion credits richer already)

Aren't they for sale in Pride of Bitterwood?

Edit: Never mind, it's the other 3 megaships listed in the Torval thread.

Seeing as you would have earned more in a single metallic hotspot yes as the fade off in hot spots were reset in june 2020 this made over laps worse... Traveling to the edge of the hotspot makes generation worse not better ...
Now if you had gone to the triple you woud have earned way more than the single hot spot and double over lap

Order of collection rate worst first..
Double over lap (weakened due to distance from the centre drop off and reset in 2020)
Single hot spot.. (Boosted in 2020)
Tripple over lap (boosted by the third corrects for the distance drop in generation )
Haz res mining in hotspot.. ( boosted due to the haz res effect every rock contains more chunks than those above )
Mapped mining fastest CPH...

I have not done any pixel peeping... are there any chances this will reach Tier 3?
Not likely, with linear and quadratic trendlines:
