Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

400 million over a decade is still absolutely nothing. No matter if they released a game or not.
$400 million allotted by a publisher to a development team (or multiple teams) may not be a lot, and there are deadlines and hard milestones to reach. If they're not, it's a fiscal loss and the project(s) are abandoned. $400 million from private people is, especially when no one is held accountable, and there are no deliverables in sight, and no successful track record of previously published products. Putting context to numbers helps.

It's also a budget that's typical of AAA productions, and after that budget is spent there's a fully working game, often with a good level of polish (setting aside Bethesda here - but they do fix em..). Here CiG spent that amount, and 10 years, getting stuck in development hell with something that barely can qualify as alpha since even the core engine is not done yet.

It's fraud.

Pretty much - by now it's just throwing out garbage to flood the forum.

Well, as i sometimes say on the refunds sub, every time one of the faithful goes on a rant about the refund sub on /r/sc, its free advertising for the refund sub. It gets people thinking "Wait a minute, there are people who think they should get refunds for this game? Maybe i'll go and see why!"

As the old saying goes, there's no such thing as bad publicity!

@Ebob

Tell you what Ebob, I would bet my house on the fact that if you were not so emotionally and financially invested in the propaganda and horse manure factory that is CIG you'd be calling it out for what it is too. In fact, if fate had spun our roles reversed and ED was sitting on a decade long alpha and SC was released in some sort of coherent state you would be absolutely slaughtering Elite Dangerous and rightly so, as you would ANY OTHER GAME.

The following sayings and expressions may help you 'get it' - though to be honest deep down I find it impossible to believe you don't already.

"There are none as blind as those who will not see"
"You should not throw good money after bad"
"Beware the little boy that cries 'wolf'"
"The trust of the innocent is the liars most powerful tool"

You go on about throwing more money at them when clearly the previous 400-500 million has worked wonders for your game hasn't it? I mean my god, you have been linked god knows how many lies, misdirections and smikescreens and you still defend it. You defend lying, you defend endless alpha, you defend being part of a clan that is setting a god awful precedent for ALL your fellow gamers if it is indeed 'ok', (it bloody isn't!). You defend ridiculous amounts and variations of unfinished, incomplete, unfixed 'gameplay', you defend the 'BDSSE' having one incomplete star system, no orbital mechanics and less game loops than 'Snake'. You defend CIG selling ridiculous packages cost wise to people on the back of more lies about what is going to be achievable with said packages. You retcon history with regards to SQ42 - or attempt to - and you defend it all as if your bloody life depends on it.

Why?

EDIT - Is it just me or does it seem that on Spectrum a lot of the faithful pretend they've spent 10X what they probably have to impress their fellow Citizens but on platforms away from that they're all in for only $65?...........hmmmm, makes ya thunk innit.

Backers who only put in the bare minimum for whatever reason, rely on other people to keep the game funded. So they have to bang the drum hoping that they can lure some unwary gullible mugs gamers to do what they are unwilling to do themselves, purchase an account and buy some jpegs. Hell! maybe even buy an Idris.

Some are also those who are not willing to put their money where their mouth is.

That's a very good point. Game would collapse* without the whales. I'm not sure though that many of them realise.

edit - *or they would need to release it.

Once again, SC has more parallels with certain "content creator" websites than any game. A tiny minority spends the vast majority of cash, everyone else is just there to watch.

Long may it continue. I really want to see how high the fund tracker will get at this stage. Maybe it wraps around to zero at some point because of coding errors 😅

Better way to fund [Star Citizen]?
Any way of funding it, besides its current utterly unethical abuse of the crowd funding model, would be an improvement.

Such as developing a good game using your own money, through sales of stocks in your company, or getting a publisher to pay for it, releasing it to the public, and using the profits off of sales to continue to develop the game.

Bankruptcy! That will make them release a game! Somehow...
It'll do one of 2 things.
1. It'd make it go away so we dont have to hear the same old crap anymore
2. Someone else picks up the remnants, and makes a releasable game out of it, you know, CR's usual.

The added bonus for CR and company and all their parrotiots, is they get to say they didnt have enough money to finish it. New crap.

Hoping for number 2.
