Bring on the DOOM!

Then all the armchair developers can finally develop!

I saw somewhere it is Hello Games making a bid, as their flagship needs a (better) flight model.

:D S

It's interesting - I googled this after reading your post, and there was a short article in the technology section of the financial times.

At the end of the piece, they mentioned a rumour about a joint bid from Sony and Microsoft being compiled. Apparently the scope for the FD catalogue of games is of interest for both current and future development.

I don't know enough about economics to personally comment, but it seemed like a good suggestion, especially as the IP with some of the catalogue that FD own is huge.

Will be intriguing to see how this story develops into the next print edition, which isn't far away, so I have the section bookmarked now!

Umm, no. MW5 with both DLCs contains two campaigns with hand crafted missions, but it also contains an infinite number of generated missions employing a dozen mission types, many different biomes, factions to ally with or against, etc.

Career mode is an open-ended sandbox. You can play the same career for decades in gametime--take part in or ignore "historical events" like the 4th succession war.

Activities are limited to combat, building mechs and trading salvage, but you can play as long as you like.

Galactic lore events only occur from 3015 (game start) to 3049 (when the Clans invade) but there are mods for that.

So, how do you upgrade?

The mystery deepens!

So both MS and Sony are angry with FDev for withholding EDO from consoles, and are now planning a joint hostile takeover?

Well, my preferred method is to take better equipment from defeated enemies. Failing that, you just buy upgraded mechs and kit in the various markets as you find them.
Advanced weapons and lostech appear at random in markets.

You can also upgrade mech chassis via "cantina missions." These are challenges such as "destroy 10 missile carriers" to get "blueprints" to make your mech run 5% cooler, etc.

These missions aren't grindy, if that's what you're getting at, it's just extra credit and a small bonus for something you'll be doing anyway.

I think we should start a Kickstarter campaign to buy it by the community, like people do with football clubs.

Can anyone think of a person who likes this kind of challenge, perhaps in the style of an educated lore expert?

Failing that, there may be someone quackers enough to try and petition the forum for money? That's provided they don't then use the money to buy star citizen instead.
Maybe we can get Rubbernuke to make series of Elite NFTs to sell to the idiots masses... Weirdly, not too dissimilar to CIG approach, they were ahead of their time.

This is what I wondered, I just didn't want to suggest it myself as some people think I'm evil. They are correct, but that's not the point. It's an interesting story though, and I wonder how it will develop.

Do we really want spacesuits where we are curries though, cat based or otherwise?

The answer is obviously yes. @Rubbernuke get on it mate, we need you promptly!

Then the same could be said of ED. You do missions anyway, or combat, or whatever, and you can get materials and data at the same time for upgrades.

So, surely there is something else to it that defines grind for you. Perhaps you enjoy the activities in Mechwarrior but dont enjoy the activities in ED?

No, not really.

I like some activities in ED and I like some activities in MW5. I don't like all activities in either.

The main difference between the two is that I can ignore the activities I don't like in MW5 and still upgrade/advance.

This is not an option in ED as it is currently.

I define 'grind' as doing an activity I don't enjoy to advance/upgrade in the game--to do what I actually enjoy better/at a higher level. WW5 doesn't do this, ED does.

Ah, i see. Yes, while you have some choice of activities in ED to get the stuff you want, some stuff is a bit limited. Like raw materials, its either mining or SRV driving. If you don't like either of those then it can be a pain i suppose.

Fortunately, i like most activities in ED. About the only things i don't do in ED are PvP and Thargoid stuff, neither of which give stuff i want anyway ;)

Just my two cents on this part of your statement: I hadn't really been interested in thargoid fighting early on, but these days I can say I'm hooked. It's a challenging PvE experience. The reward of success alone is enough, though the cash isn't bad either. I say all this of course still not being all that great at it lol... Darn swarms... 😂
I guess it is also interesting to note that skills in PvP and Thargoid PvE do have some cross-over as well.

The "correct" way to deal with them i just find annoying. I could do the gauss cannon thing (its that weapon right?) that allows you to wreck them without messing around.

I just decided I was never going to attack them on principle. However, that might change if we get on-foot Thargoids. Unless FD do something silly with those.
