Update on Communication

It is strange, isnt it. The flagship title for the publisher really feels like its being treated as an afterthought. Thats tough to reconcile.
Frontier's flagship title is the one they've told investors will be makinng them the most money in the upcoming financial year. It's not looking good for console or Windows users this year I suspect.

Get well Arf, but to be honest, he isn’t the only community manager for frontier, therefore the radiosilence at the moment and the vague updates from frontier isn’t happens into the last two weeks, so for me that is not an apologize for almost tree month of nothing.

It's only ED that's gone quiet, the other franchises seem to be operating as normal.

The other franchises were always rather quiet
While ED was particularly noisy in the last year (the pre-launch hype then the post-launch... well, everything we had post launch)

Now it seems we're getting back to the minimal comms as we had in 2020

If they are in talks then perhaps the reason they'd want to shutdown CM comms for ED but not other games is if there's news (probably bad) about the game they don't want anyone blurting out by mistake on a livestream or forum post.

That doesn't narrow it down much though...

I think people are reading far too much into the recent silent treatment. The community meet is on 25 Feb. Either FDEV will provide an update in the next few days to give something to discuss further at that event, or they'll keep their powder dry for the event itself. They're surely not so stupid to think if they attend that meet with nothing that they'll get away with it. They surely know that to do so would just further inflame the criticism and negativity. Can you imagine the reaction we'll see in various youtube videos and such on 26 Feb if there's nothing?

And I wouldn't be surprised if they use the meet to demo Odyssey on consoles....assuming they're even close to getting it working. They'll get caned at the community meet and after if they have nothing by way of an update on consoles......and they know it.

The reason they're quiet on E: D, I suspect, is no more complicated than that they have the meet coming up. Do any of their other titles that they haven't been quiet about lately got a similar event in the near future?

But then I'm usually a glass half full kind of bloke.....AND I've been wrong before, so.......

If I had to place a bet either way, my money would definitley be on c@ck up and not on conspiracy.

Yes they are, but you cannot blame people for behaving like people.

The meet was supposed to happen before Christmas and was carefully positioned as a meet and greet affair, no news attached I thought?

True, but that's not the situation as it stands. They've been conspicuously quiet, have said they want to tell us about what's coming up but haven't elaborated. Given the meet IS on 25 Feb now, nicely timed by coincidence, the simplest explanation, without further clarification from FDEV themselves, is to put two and two together and get four, not any number other than four.

And if I'm wrong and there's nothing from them, well FDEV have no-one to blame but themselves for the backlash that will result.

I'm not sure Elite is a flagship title for Frontier any more.
It doesn't get the market penetration in the same way it did in 1984.

If you are looking for Marquee titles, I would suggest that
  • Jurassic World Evolution 1 & 2 is a bigger draw due to its connections to the film franchises
  • Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate has the potential to be bigger due to its connection to the GamesWorkShop IP
  • The upcoming F1 Management sim has the potential to be bigger due to the propensity for people to spend a fortune to watch cars drive round in circles.

I would say they are all bigger names than Elite now.

I can fully see why there would be a big debate ongoing within Frontier about whether to keep throwing developer resource / cash at a game that is in the twilight of its lifecycle.

Elite Dangerous launches - The Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy
Elite Dangerous Horizons - Life, the universe & everything
Frontier Festive Meet-up - The Restaurant at the end of the Universe
what next....

Or it's good news, and they don't want to announce it before a a whole or partial sale because the news might be expected to increase the share price, pricing a potential buyer out or making the offer less favourable.

It's really all blind speculation.
