Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

From watching his vids he's ignorant of how the game works, what's included, what's planned, so I can't imagine he is any less ignorant of the way it's developed over the years and what we can - surely must - infer from that going forward.

I've seen him ask chat about other systems and how to get there, I've seen him ask if there are interdictions and if he could interdict other ships like in THAT dastardly other game, chat explained Yes! then qualified it explaining there's a single ship that can trap players, he was incredibly excited by that idea. Or he suggested he was, to me his eyes were saying "so I can't chase people about and actually interdict them then?"

It's all something to behold.
What's he doing for a living?

Well, he responded to my comment saying he was aware that Freelancer wasn't one of Robert's successes and that he might cover it later. But then, if he was aware, why did he mention it?

Ah, he 'edited it out for length' apparently.

Had to focus on the important stuff, like the working drawers. And Hello Kitty cosmetics being grounded by lore...

looking forward to the saltemike reacts to montoya reacting to morphologis

Youtube reactions squared......
---------------

Montoya makes the point here that there are a lot of new people discovering it for the first time and have a very positive view on their experience, i don't think there is anything disingenuous in saying that, i think its probably true.

In the sense that the more people who play the game the better, and its always nice to see nOObs running around, you can spot them a mile away.

On the other hand they bring fresh money in, which right now with everything that's going on is not a good thing, CIG management need to feel the consequential pain for what they are doing or the status quo will continue.

Be that as it may - but what happened to my money and both games I, and every other backer in those days, were promised? And my special green box, space-ship-shaped USB drive and my expansion disc? :D

It'll be 2023 in no time at all - and there is absolutely no sign at all of anything being delivered by CI-G whatsoever. All we have are lulz :D

What do they need the fresh money for? The game can be made with what they collected. Ah, well - maybe it would have been but Sandi needed more handbags and the Robbers bros a decent pension plan.

The 'stop giving CIG money' conceit is a non-starter. So long as SC looks like a shiny promising game from the outside, and has some wow factors for the newly arrived, fresh noob cash will always come.

AAA production values (even at a cost to the game's development), and grand eye-catching scope (even at a cost to the game's development...), have always been the way with CIG. Because they are strategies that work. At bringing in the money anyway ;)

After watching the vid...I didn't find Drew's take on SC too off the wall. Although he's new to the project, I can see where he's coming from. :)

Yeah, taking the bread and butter of grinding as an example, moving stuff about the verse, having physical boxes in your cargo bay that you physically move by hand at point A and point B is a lot more involved than pressing buttons on a screen and moving to another screen to press some more buttons.

That's not a dig at anything, its just a fact.

MOAR Handbags needs to be a ZX Spectrum game. Right now!

Christ - I could program that in an afternoon and leave it in a perpetual state of "earliest stages of development exploring different possibilities of how we envision things going forward" with the code being nothing but an upset hamster chewing on a rubber keyed 16K with no power supply, and still be further on delivering an actual product than CI-G could hope to even imagine.

In world news...apart from coverage of Mr Putin's recent holiday excursions... Mole and son ventured out in gale force 9 winds to repair the islands interweb connection after the persistent gale force winds over the last few weeks shredded the dish. ISP sent new dish over on the ferry, we picked it up this morning and battled to fit it on top of the water tanks on Warsetter hill. The winds and squalling hailstorms up there on the hill were horrendous.

All done now...and as a bonus for the death defying feat, my connection to t'interweb is now free :)

I'm not so convinced...besides Drew's abandonment issues with FDev, he sees things in SC from a lore writer's perspective...I try to see it through his eyes instead of just judging what he sees through my own. Despite all of that, he's reviewing how he sees the game rather than Ci¬G's business malpractises. Everyone and their dog has a definitive view of the mismanagement...very few look at the attention to detail in the game outside of it...for obvious reasons. Drew mentioned what he felt was pertinent to his video and his viewpoint and I can't find fault in that, even as much as his commentary is very selective and not in line with my own 🤷‍♂️

Those plus selling his books, and trying to get a licence for writing an official SC novel (or few), possibly supported by any income gained from streaming/making SC content. Drew hasn't exactly hidden his intentions of this. He's being very careful with his communications of SC - both ignoring and being ignorant of years worth of missteps and lies by CIG - because of those factors.

He knows he needs to gain the appreciation of both the SC fandom and CIG themselves to achieve his goals of gaining new SC-related income.

A bit more of a cynical take than I'd give Drew credit for...but each to their own ;)

Ci¬G have their own lore writers who've been there since the beginning. If Drew were naive enough to encroach on their territory, I'd say he was barking up the wrong tree...writers are very possessive about their material ...

It's not cynical when it's true :D

What's that building with the damaged roof for?

Current Interweb up here is just a 5g mobile architecture, you don't need massive dishes for that... and from the speeds we get considering where we are and that we don't have a subsea cable to the mainland, I find it frankly astounding (Currently 100+Mbps down and a fixed 20 Mbps up). Anything bigger than those dishes wouldn't last up here anyway...they'd all end up in Norway or Denmark :D

My upload is the same but down is only 68 Mb\s, best i can get on my line, its fiber to cabinet, copper cable- cabinet to house.
