Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Caught up with the thread, ironically, reflecting more and more about the state of Elite than SC.

From the refugee camp things have been busy trying to make the most of ingame events to get rich and increase the fleet. Xenothreat was confusing at first albeit profitable. Can proudly say I'm the owner of the so much revered Cutlass Black along with the mining ship Prospector after some intense coop war effort. CitizenGoals ye!

Next, maybe try a go at something bigger, luxurious and suitable for cargo trading or even venture into PVP oriented ships but I dunno if IRL allows for the needed dedication.

As for the content creators refugees Kate seems to pumping out videos faster than one can say ship interiors:
Highlight for the skunks incursions on both events along with the 6000km journey around the planet Microtech which spans several videos:

BlackMaze continues to push for the need for speed with new creative ways to put ships and flight model to their limits:

Drew continued it's "Adventures in SC" saga and added "An introduction" or as someone said "the not so subtle roast".

All in all, great content for those long journeys.(y)
You always seem intent on making a point...about something or other. I just haven't worked what that is yet or why :)

When did they last claim this? And is a new player going to find that BDSS claim anywhere obvious?
As I shuffle around in my disheveled mac and agree with everything you say, I spin around and pin you with a staring look from my glass eye... just one more thing

It's the comment you made there that's been bugging me. It's not an important comment, but you did think it was important enough to type it anyway. You say that new backers of the game don't know that Chris Roberts said he wanted to make the BDSSE. Now personally I have no quarrel with what Chris Roberts said there. After all, why wouldn't he be trying to make the best game? But Darkfyre99's remark about them making the GOAT obviously touched a nerve with you and you felt the need to respond

But here's the thing that's been niggling at the back of my head. Darkfyre99 didn't refer to it as the BDSS. You did. This means that you must know how Chris Roberts refers to this claim

...unless you're claiming to be some sort of special case and that sort of knowledge isn't available to everyone

Well, I suspect it is no big secret that one of CIG´s strategies is precisely to bank on the memory loss of most backers and cater for the new comer point of view. After all even some of the most heinous crimes prescribe after a sufficiently long time. Ebob stance seem to be just a text book copy of that but if the funding helps they may get away with it even with SC still being a very broken and incomplete piece of cattle biowaste.

WHY do I need to care about their kickstarter that happened a decade ago? SC now concerns me. Why do I need to care about their damn shell companies either?

Or as a US president once put it:
"Fool me once, shame on...shame on you. Fool me—you can't get fooled again."

Spicy thread

I like this slow rise towards grumpiness from a 2014 backer...

The inventory thing actually really bugs me, and I’ve been a backer since 2014 without ever really feeling particularly aggravated by anything much in the game before. Inventory systems have been in RPG’s of all shapes and sizes for freaking ever; there’s SO much detail and data and inspiration out there and so much industry-wide institutional learning on inventory player experience to draw from… that it just drives me absolutely nuts that what we see in game now is something that anyone thought was an acceptable first live pass.

It’s unbelievably awful. But what bugs me so much isn’t necessarily that it’s bad, it’s that it shouldn’t have needed to be. The template for a minimum viable inventory system isn’t some ethereal, mysterious thing… the basic requirements are something any RPG gamer with a hint of design sense could tell you, but instead they went out and tried to re-invent the wheel for no obvious reason, and now not only do we have this horrendously clunky, awkward system with almost none of the basic features anyone would expect… but within an hour of it going live everyone knew that it would have to be significantly revamped in order for the game to be good. As it stands, the inventory system already exists as something that needs to be fixed, rather than something checked off the to-do list. Argh! It’s so inefficient. If they’d just implemented a solid, basic, functional inventory system it would have been serviceable for a significant length of time while providing players with all the necessary functions, and when the time did come to lend more resources to inventory, it could be for V2 that would add whatever flourishes and new features they wanted to experiment with; to build on it. But instead this one just sucks, you just know one day they’re going to have to revamp it totally, and fixing it is going to take dev resources away from other areas that the UI teams could be working in.

I understand this for things like the star map or ship HUD’s, because those are areas where they are doing things not many games have done before. There are going to be hiccups. But inventory isn’t those things. It bugs me, and in my mind this is one of the perfect mini-illustrations of how the constant need to do things a certain way has made SC development so inefficient and slow.

Especially when seen in the light the ole Zenimax dev's take on the inventory system. That it might just have just been a simple 'stop gap' to implement it that way...

IE it's just how the 'entity graph' data is nested, and they may have already had a related internal tool to interrogate it etc.

Best Damn MVP ever ;)
