With console staying on Horizon, does that mean PC will have both an Horizon and Odyssey build ?

Where did you get the information about no BGS, CGs or storyline? This wasn't mentioned in David Brabens announcement, have I missed a vital post somewhere?
DB post was very vague in that aspect, and AFAIK, we didn't have a detailed post somewhere to explain what will continue and what will stop. Things like new content or ships is very likely to not be on console, but things like CG and community driven content is uncertain.

The thing that make it the most uncertain is this part :
We need to be able to move forward with the story of the game
and the "story" in ED is driven through Galnet and CG.

Simple CG like the recent colonia bridge seems like a "switch" and since they affect the BGS, they are probably going to continue. More complicated community driven event like the Azimuth chase with the specific settlement and beacon might be abandoned on console.

Still, it's quite surprising we didn't have a detailed explanation on what the future hold for console. I fully understand DB is not going to do that in his open letter, but the CM team should have done it.
Remember when they said they'll communicate more ? Yeah....

So, you are confirming that the comments are completely uninformed, thanks.

As Horizons is going into maintenence mode, it might be equally safe to assume that this will include the PC version (although that is likely to be uprated to the EDO version) so the comment might indicate that only EDO players would be able to participate in BGS, CGs and storyline, surely?

I'm confirming it's a legit question, and we still don't have any official answer to it.
It wasn't a question I was responding to, it was a direct statement that was presented as if informed, rather than fictional.
Our Console brothers and sisters will get a Console's ONLY Horizon codebase, that will be in ''Maintenance Mode Only'' (i.e. Critical Updates ONLY). So for Console Commanders; No BGS, No instancing with PC Commanders, No CG's, No new storylines... just a static galaxy to fly space ships in.... all of the 400 billion star systems!
No question there, is there?

Obviously it is too complex to explain in words others might comprehend... Fiction was presented (as there is no foundation for fact at this time) as informed... Tough, isn't it?
I see.

But, I'm sure such an informed individual is aware of concepts like speculation, educated guesses and charitability as is pertains to discourse?

Out of curiosity, what do you think codebases do, Pollyanna? err... CMDR Catcher.
I will tell you a story, if I may. When I was a kid, we used to have a neighbour with one of those small dogs. You know the kind, white and real small ? Anyway, that dog was barking everytime I went outside, and bark and bark. It was driving me nuts, so the kid I was yelled "shut up". The dog didn't stop. One day my mom told me "he only want attention, the more you acknowledge him, the more happy it makes him, and the more he will bark. For him to stop, you need to start ignoring him".
And so I did, completely ignored the dog, who grew bored and went to bark at someone else.

How is it relevant to the current dialogue ? I don't know, the story just came to my mind after all those years. I really wonder why !

oh how i missed the forums, the 6 months break did me good

What I'm finding surprising is why they are not putting Odyssey (base game) on console, while not selling the DLC. The biggest issues are from all the odyssey content. While I do have some FPS drops in old content (space/horizon landing), it's not that big, and usually console run at a lower FPS anyway, where it would not be noticeable (I usually dip below 60fps, where I didn't dip below 100 in horizon).

While they still wouldn't sell Odyssey to console, it would still allow them to progress forward for both.
If they did it would have to be the latest gen consoles, not what most of the consolers would be currently using (previous gen).

Why not ? The space part of Odyssey (IE everything not DLC related, that we used to have in horizon, but through the new graphics) doesn't seem so bad. I mean, yes, it's not as optimized, but it doesn't bad enough so that it wouldn't run on old gen consoles.

Exactly this. The problem is players like me who avoid ED: O completely because of persistent bugs, broken lighting and planetary tech, meh performance in [space] VR and annoying interface.
If these things do not improve tremendously, they will lose a bunch of their PC player base too.

I'm afraid this is gonna be real bad for the game in general.
This is exactly why I play only in Horizons VR.
I had a good time bounty hunting in Horizons today, No bad FPS in VR it just worked.
Now that optimization of Odyssey to get it to run on Consoles is over, my hope that there will be further optimization of Odyssey is gone.

If they merge as Odyssey is now I probably will stop playing

I imagine most spaceborne content using existing assets will remain accessible to Horizons/Console players, such as trade CGs involving stations, powerplay, BGS, etc. Things that require Odyssey, such as on foot content or new ships/SRVs, yeah, probably not.
