Console Update

@Bottom Hat how’s the Stuphz hoard going, I imagine you have no room anymore.

BTW, when I get to writing my farewell post in the coming days, there’ll be no stuphz from my end I’m afraid, unless you fancy a trip to Carcosa to collect my 4 billions worth of ships and modules from Robardin Rock, as that is their final graveyard.

o7.
Even though we never have seen each other in the game, sad to see you go. I hope you find some peace in another game. I wish you all the best Cmdr.

The low number of participants in your well-intentioned thread seems to confirm my observations above: Very few people are actually interested in a constructive solution.
I don't think that's too surprising. If I was a console gamer, was told that my favourite live service game will not be updated on consoles anymore, and that they way I can keep playing is buying a new expensive gaming PC - I don't think I'd be up for that either. I'd probably feel betrayed enough to call it quits after venting a bit.
Especially the way it was done here.

It is booming mate, although I have no desire to see you go or to haz your stuphz - you're too nice a guy for that.

I might have to contract out a collection service though for colonia....?! ;)

Greetings Commanders,

Elite Dangerous is a game close to my heart.

It’s no secret that Odyssey’s launch was less than ideal, including the need to split the PC/console player base to focus on a PC-only launch. Since Odyssey’s release in May 2021, we have worked tirelessly to improve the Odyssey experience on PC, and whilst we have made great progress there is still more to be done. We have been supporting the pre-Odyssey and post-Odyssey codebases since.

Over the last several months, we have been wrestling with the best way to move forward, and it is with a heavy heart we have decided to cancel all console development. We need to be able to move forward with the story of the game, and in order for us to do this we need to focus on a single codebase. Elite Dangerous will continue on console as it is now together with critical updates, but we will focus on new content updates on PC on the post-Odyssey codebase.

We appreciate this news is not what our console community were hoping for. This was not an easy decision to make, but it was made with the long-term future of Elite Dangerous in mind.

@David Braben
This is a sad news to ear about a game we all love, but it can also be a oportunity!
Since suport is ending on all Horizon vesion of the game, why not let the community build the game from this point on, for the horizon versions?
I thinkg i can speak for all the community when i say "Let us help".

[Story line wize, add a universal event that justify the separation of the 2 games vertions as paralel universes. AKA "The Rift" (you can use Salvation weapon gone wrong for example)]

this could be done in varius ways::.
A relese a mod builder for example, or tools that allow the comunity to add or expand features to the game.
(We understand that many licence and intellectual property issues may arise regarding a proposal like this and understand that perhaps a franchisee model may fix this scenario for all parties involved. Allowing discussion with Fdev and a small band of people willing to franchisee Elite Dangerous Horizon would allow ideas regarding crowdfunding or seeking investors in this project.)

here some examples:, alow payers to add a features like
- build and manage they bases and factions in game (converting the game into a more strategy wise direction but keeping all its actual content and story line but adding the so called personal narrative=player progress ).
-managing base/faction resources with npcs from the galaxy map; + alert system when your ncps are atacked.
- making new side stories playable from in game (that dont afect the normal galnet story line)
- for exploration, adding a "myth" section to codex that displays myths by the sector player is in (giving a objective to the player, so it wound go roaming endesly only for site seeing) + this could also be used for site survey resources for player faction.
- Combat would mean more than gank people, as eatch faction would have to protect there assets.

This would not conflict with Odessy as only this version has the on foot experience, and you can always add news to Gallnet advertising odessy with related content)
(btw convert the CQC botton on the main menu to Odessy, nobody uses CQC anyway. we can make CQC turnaments as events later in game anyway).
This could help keep Horizons alive and also serve as a marketing place for Odessy.

This in my humble opinion on the corrent situation
Thanks for your time and concideration

I didn't say it was said by Frontier, we were talking about the thread with account transfers suggesting that idea as a solution to this problem.
But you can keep playing on Horizons. The servers are not getting switched off. Spreading this false information only adds to the problem. I've seen quite a few posts on social media along the lines of "I've heard servers are being shut down, when?" Or "is it true I have to buy a PC to continue playing elite" - which is utter nonsense.

It's overinterpretation of what's been said.

(But I understand it comes from the frustration and anger)

I'm not spreading any false information, I never said servers are now being switched off, I never talked about what quite a few posts on social media are saying.
This all seems irrelevant to my post and borderline accusatory that these things are what I'm also saying.

I suspect people posting links to the current transfer option are not offering constructive solutions, they are simply trolling and that could be why they are not getting replies.

Some people will be aware of the current transfer option, some people may not be aware. However very few of the console commanders requesting a transfer will be happy with the limitations of the current option offered by frontier developments as I expect you are fully aware.

It's not about whether or not the servers are being shut down. For a while now I have been playing Elite less, and one of the reasons has been that there has been no new content. There have been a few CGs, but they're the same old ones re-hashed. With no prospect of new content for consoles my interest in Elite will wane even more, and I suspect that's the case for many console players.

If we get complete transfer of commander data to PC that may satisfy some, myself included as I have a PC which should cope, but inevitably the user base on console will reduce, probably to the point where Frontier do not consider it viable to keep the console servers running.

You've said these words: "they way I can keep playing is buying a new expensive gaming PC".

That's not true at all.

I get it.

I'm all for a reasonable solution for the console community.

Nothing was confirmed about CG's for example. But a lot of the people are using phrases like "the game is dead", "in order to continue playing I have to buy a PC", "we can't play elite anymore on consoles".

Stuff like that just adds to the problem.

It becomes extremely expensive if a console user exclusively purchases a PC in order to enjoy Elite Dangerous going forward, not to mention if Frontier don't grant FULL account transfers with all content, then players are forced to invest absurd sums of cash back into the undeserving pockets of Frontier just to get back the customised fleets they own. As for the grind all over yet again. Just no. Time is precious and this game has taken more than it deserves out of my personal life three times over!

I think you're over-egging your defence there, almost sounding a bit paranoid. Roots didn't even remotely suggest you had said you were spreading the old fake news thing.

Your second paragraph is just hysterical though, so cool your jets there capitano.

If you need eggs though, I imagine I can find someone to help.

Well apologies that I didn't spell it out completely, I thought it was pretty clear I meant playing the updated version of the (live service) game. Of course I understand this doesn't mean the game will now throw an error on launch.
I might have been able to catch that if you didn't indirectly accuse me of a bunch of other stuff that's been on social media somewhere.
