25 million weekly upkeep cost for Fleet carriers…

Lets look at what was added;

Pioneer Supplies: 5MCr per week. No one is likely to buy suits or weapons (as only grade 1 is available), so basically it selling 1000cr consumables. The cost is out of proportion. Even with a 100% markup, I’d need to sell 5000 consumables a week to break even.

Bar: 1.5MCr per week, for a bartender with storage capacity of 100, constrained pricing, and that buy/sell mechanic that defies common sense. It borderline useless. I feel like I’m paying 1.5MCr per week for the cosmetic value of the bar. Would it be possible to have the bar always open for free, but without the bartender trading?

My carrier is intended to support, er, criminal free enterprise, so I’m committed to keeping everything open except the exploration related stuff. I don’t accept this ”it’s a mobile department store” logic, because they are a fundamentally loss making endevour. Cmdrs own carriers only because its fun to own them - tweaking the services a little would make them more fun, hurt no one, a could make them start to justify the cost.

You don't own the ship, or the shops in it though. That, and some people seem to make enough money to make FCs work.

But then, FD themselves have caused the issue because they are muddled on the concept of FCs. In fact its nuts that FCs can even allow owners to be pirates since that would be like McDonalds allowing a franchise to fence stolen loot when you buy food.

Fun? An FC is not about generating fun, its just a mobile station that carries your toys. People want all the goodies without any downsides, which is wrong if you are renting one and get 95% of your money back if you let it lapse (so in essence the only limit is the initial 7 billion or so to rent one). I mean, who pays the wages otherwise?

If that seems expensive, maybe a fully pimped out FC is not for you.

25m is 3 trips to a high ground CZ which is a matter of 90 minutes per week with no risk. Ofc there are other ways to do it, but that's one of the easiest.

As for me: mine usually has rearm, repair, shipyard, refuel. Not sure if I'll install any of the new services just now as I don't see the value. YMMV.

The whole renting/purchasing things is just a huge irrelevance - credits go out in exchange for amenities, call it renting if you want. (Pretty sure the button in the game said "Purchase" though.)

Of course, there are always some people who want to have their cake and eat it, but that's not what I was saying. In fact, I explicitly said I was committed to keeping the services open. My opinion is that improvements to the mechanics of the services could bring them in line with the costs. Frankly, nothing in your reply was germane to that.

I actually think its fine you can find 50 million trade missions requiring one jump back and forth in most systems that covers you for over a week. Most in game activities make over 10 million an hour now easily. Far worse things in the game and other annoyances if I'm honest.

Anyone who owns a carrier probably has a stack of cash and knows how to make funds quickly.

Bit costly do we think? This figure is inclusive of all services of course. Would be nice to see all the services at least, without the cost. Glass doors?
Super nice update though. The best since odyssey released in my opinion.

Flimley

25? Typo?

Before U11 my Carriers had an upkeep of 26.7 millions
Post U11 with everything on, the upkeep would rise to almost 35 millions.

Problem is, Pioneer Supplies is useless in the bubble and rather of limited use in the Black - yet it's really expensive and has the most upkeep
While Vista Genomics can be quite invaluable in the Black and the Bartender is absolutely useless in the Black, but could be really useful as a vendor of rare stuff (which would make the said rares actually common) in the bubble.

While I would love for the costs to be a bit lower for some of the new modules, I would settle for at least not having the areas closed off if you haven't purchased them. Otherwise fleet carrier interiors are basically a long corridor to your command deck which is a bit of a shame given the effort that's gone into the pay to use modules.

Would also hopefully mean the owners could change ship on foot vs going to their ships. :)

I agree with this. The service cost should be on the trading service, not on the room. A ship of that size without some place for the crew to meet, drink and eat isn't realistic. The bar should always be accessible, even if the bartender doesn't trade materials. To avoid confusion, maybe replace the non-trading bartender with an Achilles robot, akin to the robot ATC that is installed by default when there's no human ATC.

Yeap.
I realized that i will get all the services only because i dont like those doors welded shut

The odd one is Pioneer (when active). Expensive supply chain? Fortunately it's quite cheap when suspended. Not a service I'll need often, but at least I'll always have a supply of e-breaches (though I did have to switch "illegal supplies" off and on to get it to register).

Hi All :)

So....Has anybody any idea how much a Carrier costs in upkeep if I just have a basic Carrier just to store my ships and commodities.
Any information welcome!

Jack :)

Yeah, I'll only have the Bar because the area looks good. The bartender will be used as a storage space for extra mats (don't no one go buying my stuff!). Pioneer Supplies I'll probably mothball until I want to buy e-breaches and such. Awesome gameplay.
