ED on Consoles just died official

Last night I drunkenly tried to play, after nomming grilled cheese and tomato soup, and it Addered me a few times in an hour. Middle of the night PDT. I was only able to wait out the last point of notoriety and switch to a Jumpconda before I got Addered and gave up.

Personally I don't think it's a matter of whether consoles (especially the PS5 and SX) can run it or not or a matter of whether the devs are capable enough to port it to console.
I think it's purely a mismanagement issue, Odyssey was obviously going over their heads and was released waay to soon, now their suffering bad sales, share drops and lack of time to pull things straight.
They just cut off the least profitable portion of their production and try to keep their heads above water and satisfy the share holders.

Mismanagement shines all overe here, it has nothing to do with the devs capabilities or the lack of processing power of consoles, especially the PS5 and Series X.
Just look at what kind of games do run, and very well I might add, on console.

The lack of empathy, especially by Mr Braben scribbling just a short PSA, is shocking and incredible disappointing though.
If that is the way you treat your very loyal player base who spent thousands of hours and quite the money on your product then in my book you don't deserve such loyal player base, at all.
Mr Braben and his upper staff should be ashamed of themselfs, very ashamed.
ED might be close to his heart, the players are definitely not so it seems.
With a sad and heavy heart, this.

FDev can clearly see the true player base numbers and future profitability trend projections. Which we as the player base aren't privy to. So IMO this decision wasn't anti fan base as much as it was definitely a business driven one. Because the majority of the ED fan base unfortunately seems to reside on the PC end.

Assuming you don't get lynched and #CancelCuttured by the anti freedom of opinion #Wokeratti cyber fascists' on social media for inciting hate speech, just innocently ask Todd Howard on his tw@t about:
  • his massively successful stealth campaign that transformed Bethesda from an altruistic, pro consumer PC dev, into the anti consumer, MVP/micro transaction mindset console based gaming dev it has become today
  • How he ninja skillz shifted dev design and support for all future Fallout/Elder Scrolls games from PC to console starting with Fallout 4 & TES V Skyrim.
  • Why basic things like the controls for Fallout 4 were so apparently console customized. And why he spent so much time neglecting the PC player base. Wooing M$ XBX fan base at past E3 events on projects like F76
  • Why Fallout 4 seemed to increasingly be a bad port from console to the PC instead of vice versa aka how the game mechanics for the TES/Fallout franchises have historically always been PC platform focused, because this is the platform that made them the global household brand they now are today.
  • How he cunningly met the significantly larger console gamer market hunger for modded content--WITH FREE LABOR--by monopolizing distribution of TES/Fallout mod author content on the (now sunset) Bethesda forums.
  • How he divisively split the TES Skyrim fanbase with SSE and ad infinitum releases of Skyrim ported to numerous non PC platforms. And grew the TES franchise exponentially in process.
  • How he succeed in destroying the once strong and cohesive PC modding community and TES/Fallout gaming communities overall. By creating said paid for mods controversy on Bethesda forums. All while profiting millions in process.
  • Whole universe of Machiavellian bondage sadism & masochist terror tactics against the PC fan base which I won't be getting into here

All of those anti consumer/anti fan base Machiavellian moves by Bethesda were done with one goal in mind: continue making money for the shareholders aka every corporation's true beneficiaries.

So quite unsurprisingly, M$ recognized him with a big promotion when it made its historical acquisition of Bethesda last year. And more than doubled his personal wealth in process.

Bottom line: Howard delivered earnings results and consistently met shareholder EPS targets. Which is the goal of every profitable corporation. Period.
Which btw, is exactly what DB seems to be attempting to achieve with his draconian measures to cut loose to console player base. His decisive action strongly suggests the return on investment to integrate console players with ED:O don't justify the level of dev effort....

I'm one of many CMDRs who play on both XBX and PC. I have the added misfortune of having some 98% of my CMDR game progression/wealth on XBX which is forcing a restart on PC end. Put in a support ticket to transfer over to PC on hearing the bad news. But it apparently got lost in an apparent mass CMDR stampede to do the same on discovering the PR fallout as well:

So it's quite possible those of us dual platform CMDRs will end up collaterall damage to any potential pushback from DB & FDev. I could see them refusing any future CMDR transfer requests in an attempt to stabilize anymore disruption and hemorrhaging of the fan base on the console end. This seems to be the only way they'll be able to maintain a stable console population (or whatever is left of said population).

So it's quite feasible us dual platform CMDRs could end up with the very short end of the stick on this PC transfer. :(

The response you got from support regarding the transfer seems quite sensible and fair
Unfortunately, it's also not in the short term advantage for console players that want to transfer NOW, but in long term waiting for a better transfer options seems the most logical move.

And yes, FDev is a PLC - their main interest is to make money for the shareholders.

Me? I'm just happy there is an Elite game to be played still.

It's just about the money, not loyal players and make a profit.
You can't fool me by saying canceling consoles was a last minute decision.
They conveniently placed ED on the Xbox gamepass knowing the console era was comming to an end.
This way they could squeeze the most money out of it still , commission from MS for every player who downloaded their game from gamepass and the eventual sales from the vanity store by those players as a result.

I know Frontier is a commercial business but there's quite the difference in how you treat your customers, Frontier is not your shining example in my opinion.

Makes you wonder what changed their mind all of a sudden though.

Maybe the financial report for the first 6 months of FY2022 (June-November 2021) where it shows they finished the half year with like 1.3 million pounds operational losses.
The report was released in mid January 2022.
And took DBOBE 2 months to make the announcement. So it certainly wasn't an easy call to make

That makes sense.
To me it just confirms my opinion that all this is because of mismanagement, which realy kicked in at the horrible release of Odyssey, and not the developer's abbilities or the consoles being able to run Odyssey or not, especially the Ps5 and Xbox series X.

Im already at the point (as XB series X player) where i don´t really care anymore about whats happening to my xbox commander. My journey in ED on Xbox is done and I will have it in good memories, always.

I reactivated my 5 years old PC account, upgraded to Odyssey, and continue to play there. I miss the gaming on my 65 ' OLED TV a bit, but thats it.
Should they bring up the option for a full account transfer from Xbox to PC, I will use that option to have a 2nd account on PC, which is always handy if you are a explorer.
I hate to miss out CGs and other stuff happening in the bubble while im are out in the dark on exploration.

No offense intended, I just can't get it.

I'll never understand why if a game developper had kick off many people without in my opinon, any business ethic, from an mmo, losing them hundreds or thousands of grind, and letting fall behind, any future confidence, someone damaged still want to keep the game running and don't care about. Do you understand that is fault of this kind of people that game devs know us gamer so really well, that we are so bad consumers, and easy to use gamers, that we are promoting those companies, everyday, continually worsen customer service? Up to this point you need to continue playing the game, to promote get kicken off also later?

Is not the fault of the console people the financial fail, is the responsability of the command, his mismanagement. And you still want to giving them support, trust in them, and continue playing with your old PC account, obviously outdated? and probably buying micropayments later? I can't understand sorry.

This and then some.

I just can't explain to myself why a lot smaller developers are perfectly capable of releasing their games on pc and consoles and Fdev can't.
I blame it on poor management, just like the initial release of Odyssey altogether.
Cyberpunk runs great on Series X and so do all other games I have, I bet Starfield will run good too.

I bought my Series X with only two games in mind realy, Flight Simulator and Elite Dangerous Odyssey.
The pew pew part of Odyssey wasn't realy my cup of tea but the improved visuals, station interiors etc. were.

My hopes are on Starfield now, so far it looks good.
Fdev has lost all credibility in my book from here on, I'll never buy one of their products again.
Isn't Starfield (great though it looks) only single player, though? I think they have definitively said that there will be no multiplayer.

I'd switch to PC if they'd let us port across our console CMDR. But can't you run a PC through a TV? Mine is only a paltry 58'' but I'd only be interested in playing on PC if I could still do it lounging on the sofa using the big TV!

Properly gutted by all this. Fully expect them to switch off the whole game on console within the year.

I've highlighted the important bit.. opinion. You feel that way, many of us don't. For me people with that attitude are taking this far too personally. FDev have made a tough business decision based on information we just don't have. Personally I think they tried their best but just couldn't do it for various reasons. That's disappointing, but not something to hate over.
,losing them hundreds or thousands of grind,

mmm, grind. Personally I think if that is the case you're playing the game wrong. It's supposed to be fun. ;)
and letting fall behind,

Fall behind who/ what?
any future confidence, someone damaged still want to keep the game running and don't care about.

damaged? what? There's a difference between not caring and choosing to continue despite disapointment.

Do you understand that is fault of this kind of people that game devs know us gamer so really well, that we are so bad consumers, and easy to use gamers, that we are promoting those companies, everyday, continually worsen customer service?

Just no. Exploitation of customers is not the fault of players choosing to continue playing a game they enjoy on PC when they can no longer play it on console.

Is not the fault of the console people the financial fail, is the responsability of the command, his mismanagement. And you still want to giving them support, trust in them, and continue playing with your old PC account, obviously outdated? and probably buying micropayments later? I can't understand sorry.

No one is blaming console players for anything as far as i can tell. The rest of this is opinion, not fact, and is largely irrelevant. Why should I, as a customer go out of my way to try and punish a company that's lost itself money? All I need to do is only buy products I value. Elite is not just the sum of the assets I currently have, it's the experience and enjoyment I get from playing.

I have 3 PC cmdrs, 2 console cmdrs, and am considering getting a fourth pc account for an on foot only cmdr. All have different levels of gear but all are fun to play in their own way.

I'd switch to PC if they'd let us port across our console CMDR. But can't you run a PC through a TV? Mine is only a paltry 58'' but I'd only be interested in playing on PC if I could still do it lounging on the sofa using the big TV!

You can indeed run a PC though a tv. The only real issues are space/ setup and the desktop scale. If you only want to game that's fine but if you use the PC for anything else I'd look at making sure you can use it on a more traditional monitor as well.

I have an old steam link (discontinued) which worked well for extending my screen to the TV when needed.

Thank you, that's very helpful, I'm a PC luddite. despite working from home on a laptop most days.

And no, thank you, I appreciate that I am in a fortunate position but I am considering buying a PC base unit to stash behind the TV/Xbox/Sky box purely to run ED. Beyond that I'd remain an Xbox gamer, and continue working on the laptop at the kitchen table - only reason I game on Xbox is that I needed some separation between gaming and work. I trade Forex, involves lots of monitoring a screen not doing much (heck, it's a living!) so deliberately don't have any games on the laptop so I am not tempted. Similarly, I won't have any work or anything else on the gaming PC. It won't even get a second game. Anyway with apologies for the unsolicited waffle, thank you for your advice.

Some good has come from this though i dont have to pay M$ for xbox live gold to play ED now, after all said and done Solo will have asany players as open 😉
