Planet textures dramatically degraded in U11

Graphics settings are at High/Ultra.

As you can see, the red line show the really low drawing distance, so terrain become pixelated and flickering.

Anyone know the solution?

Check if you dont have checkerboard active
Also recheck all your settings - U11 might have changed some of them
I'm going to ask the stupidest question ever, but I checked all over and I can't find any settings related to that. Where it be at?

checkerboard rendering, i think, is only something that appears on uhd (4k) setups..

perhaps the option is hidden when you are not rendering above 1080p

If this is the case, it was not mentioned in the patch notes. Just like the fact FSR is now even enabled by default for the Low preset, whereas it wasn't before U11.

  • Checkerboard rendering is now automatically applied to low, medium, and high quality graphics settings. This option will reduce the cost of the planet terrain shader when in close proximity to a landable planet.

weird, can't think of any other reason why it would be hidden in some but not others then.

it's not like it requires driver support, it's more of a rendering method, though consoles (ps) did have hardware to offload some of the work involved in the process.

I always had that kind of weird stuff in odyssey ? Not always, maybe, but most of the time. Your screenshots are basically what I see most of the time, pre of after patch. All lod related stuff maxed.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was some hidden option we couldn't change that was enabled for some rig and not others^^
Nope. I use 1080p and it shows for me.

Wonder if there's some unknown condition that makes it disappear...
Can confirm. Appears for me (1080p).

We had the same kind of things with the "ultraforcapture" option upon EDO release. Some people didn't have the option at all. We were unable to find why.

Could be slightly related, but it took me until Update 2/3 (and repeated deletions of graphical settings files) to finally get the "head bob scale" option to show up.

Delete your entire Options\Graphics folder and let the game rebuild it, or at the very least check that nothing in it is read only.

<TerrainCheckerboardRenderingEnabled>false</TerrainCheckerboardRenderingEnabled> Should be in both Custom.4.0.fxcfg and Settings.xml.

Deleted the entire folder (nothing was read-only beforehand either), the option still doesn't show up. And yeah, the setting was/is present in both files (not really sure why it's in both, though).

And just so you don't have to get bothered by any gameplay issues.

I had to turn checkerboard off as it made the terrain swim at distant low angles. Not much point if the anti-aliasing does not do its job. I can understand how it would speed things up but the motion is horrid. Yuk.
