Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I am a late starter to the game

2021 -Sidewinder
2021 - Hauler
2021 - Cobra MkIII
2021/22 - Federal Dropship
2022 - Krait MkII
2022 - Type 10 Defender
2022 - Anaconda

I also still have my original Sidewinder too, I sold the others

That's a nice mix of ships.

Looks like we both started playing at the same time? EDO was a Christmas present from my wife!

I'm currently grinding Combat ranks, and must say, I find the Cobra's hard work to kill, compared to the other ships.

Like a brick travelling through treacle, but like a go-kart compared to my Type-9 :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

In my eagerness, I left space dock without checking the build (still a N00b!)

No docking computer! OK, I can do this no problem I thought...

Got out OK, went for a spin, then headed back...

400 Credit fine for trespassing, and scuffed paint
There are many great things about the cutter, the brakes are not one of them.

Top tip if you are close enough to a station to see in through the mail slot do not press boost.

To be fair, the Cutter's straight line speed is pretty respectable. Mine exceeds 400m/s without boosting. NPCs can't catch it if I decide to run, and it's actually really good for delivery CGs because it cuts down on the time between station and jump so much vs a T9!

Turning/stopping however... it doesn't do those things. I was using it as a near-bubble explorer for a while, but had a habit of ramming the ground because it simply cannot change course in a hurry.

But it remains my favourite large ship. Visually stunning, especially with a chrome or opalescent paint job, and large enough to do any job or several jobs at once, I love it for any task that doesn't need a medium pad. (Side note, I wish the Clipper would fit on a medium pad so I could love it equally!)

I find this figure gets massively inflated in steam, because it counts any time the launcher is open as "in game"... I usually just forget the launcher is there and leave it in the background for days at a time.
There is an in-game counter, though, which is fairly accurate as to time the game is actually running (rather than just the launcher). I don't know which one Tyres is referring to. I don't think you use Steam, do you Tyres?

I haven't added up my 3 accounts' time in a while. It was over 4000 last time I looked, as I recall. I should reexamine that sometime, just for curiousity's sake.

Not having Steam I get the figure the old fashioned way by looking in code and converting weeks etc. into hours which gives me 5,791.3

Ninja'd while typing, the figure is for the only account I have.

I'm a beam laser advocate and when doing pirate hunting missions, where there are cobras or vipers, I tend to take them out first, sometimes one full salvo less than 1km away just destroys them outright. When I was in a Cobra though, my combat style was different, never too close but definitely far away if my shields were down. Now I want to give my conda more speed so they can't run away so easily

Ammonia atmosphere with 4 biologicals. So far I've found 3. Pretty sky, though.

Just bought the game. Downloading it now.

I played Eve Online for free for a while and liked it except for the fact that you're just somebody's punching bag the instant you try to do anything in non-high sec space. Read that you can sort of do your own thing here without too much worry about that sort of thing.

At any rate, I only paid 8 bucks for the game, so how wrong could I go?
Nice. I hope you enjoy it. (y) I found that courier missions were a relatively safe and consistent way of making money in the starting area but you'll figure out your own preference.

And like aRJay said, it's a big galaxy with limited players so you don't have to worry too much about other players messing with you. I see this as a downside in the long term but it's good for when you're starting.

Though beware, the early engineer systems in particular are hotspots for players who wanna destroy newbie ships for a laugh. Be careful when carrying precious cargo.

Good luck! o7
