Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

As most of the dust won't be generated inside the case would filters, checked and cleaned/replaced frequently, be a good idea or would the reduction in airflow in the clean state be too great?
Depends on the case, the filters, how often you clean them,.... some cases are born with filters, some cases take to filters and some cases have filters thrust upon them.

Whatever you do - make sure yo can clean the filters from the outside. I have a case with multiple filters - and the largest (and most important) of these can only be cleaned after opening the case. Wouldn't be such a big issue, if the case weren't mounted in a bracket under my desk - so I have to remove the case to open it to clean the filter. Cleaning the filter: 30 seconds. Time for the whole operation: 30 minutes if I'm lucky....

I came across the DEMCflex external filters some years ago. These are held on to the outside of your case by the magnetic strip around the edge. Pull it off, bang it on a bin or vacuum it (even wash it if you want) - slap it back on - job done. Here is the 200mm one (they do all sorts of others):

(They include a stick-on metallic shape/frame/strip so you can attach to non-magnetic cases.)

My case do have filter at the front panel, coolermaster mid-tower case. But it didn't help as I didn't clean it for years....😂 I need to disassemble the front panel to clean it, the only thing I don't like on this case.

This is normal use @28c room temperature.

I doubt my rig can handle the heat generated to run ultra... my rtx 2060 was getting close to 80c when docked and I can hear the fans screaming. As summer is coming in asia, I decided to get some cleaning in my rig's fan, the last time was done at least 5 yrs ago.....

Well, the effect of cleaning is obvious, now the gpu is at around 75c max, and mostly at 60c in space. It is EDH tho, I have to emphasize.

Oh yeah, that's a lot of dust so I can see how it helped. I might need to do a little cleaning again myself, but on the CPU. The new card seems to max out around 70C outside a station but the CPU can get crazy hot while a game's running (hitting the 80's). I was just saying to someone earlier, I didn't realise the CPU ran so hot even after tabbing out of a game. I thought it kinda went idle. No wonder I was getting sunburn after bringing the desktop forward to leave space for an external power supply at the back. It wouldn't fit in the Dell though, and I wonder if that lack of PSU fan is raising temperatures. I've never checked until the last couple of days so I have no comparison.

Our Speccy stats are surprisingly similar though. Just a slight difference in i7 and GPU.

With my hull at 51% and no AFMU, I am well aware that I really need to return to a station and fix my ship, but... first, this moon is so frikking purple.

Having investigated the outer (life bearing) moons, I headed inwards to the geologically active binary pair, and finally found the actual gas giant everything is orbiting! It seems surprisingly far away and/or very small. Hard to be sure which.

no geo to be found.jpg

Despite the scanner's assurances, I failed to find any actual geology here. Visited both, landed, hopped up, landed again; a single geyser with one pisceous cobble between them. That seemed boring so I headed inwards again, this time to a moon with a moon (vs a binary moon)...

It's quite a snug orbit. In fact I think the surface-surface gap is smaller than the diameter of the larger body. You'd think this would encourage active volcanism on at least the little one but... no. No, it does not. All it does is whip that little guy around real fast and make the parent gas giant set quite quickly over the horizon.

Time to head home I think. All this found at Ophiuchus Dark Region B Sector GW-W c1-5, should anyone care to follow. Just don't snipe my scans please, it'll be tomorrow before I can turn them in. They're all ice worlds anyway so I really wouldn't come here for the scan value, it's just a cool place for visuals 😸

Finished last session with more faction rep and getting more money on passenger group missions. Having quite fun. Got promoted to Prince of the empire, really want to stay a duke.
Is there a way to lock ranks? Or do something to make your rank go backwards?
Also rolled up to elite I in trade 👍🤟😁

No way I know to reduce rank however there are at least a couple of ways of freezing your rank. The least disruptive is to just ignore the rank up missions you will still be accumulating percentage in the background but if you don’t do those missions your rank won’t increase, the other is to not do missions but that can disrupt how you play.

You could, when there is a sale, start another account and freeze at Your chosen rank with that alternate character. Or be very nice to the lovely people at support and ask if they could reset you to a duke.

As @aRJay says - just ignore future promotion missions. I don't think* any of my accounts are higher than Duke and that was only to get the big curved cargo whale. ;)

* Just checked - yes 4 Dukes, no higher.

I just played "Ram the Eagle" in my Imperial Courier. It is a very simple game for simple minds. You try to ram a pirate Eagle while the pirate Eagle tries to scan you for cargo. Very evasive, these Eagles. And I have found something new: You can actually have an acceleration blackout. When you fly tight loopings, the screen becomes darker and the throttle sets to zero.

Ok. I may regret this, but I'm going to have to ask. What does this all mean? Am I showing my age and lack of emoticon understanding?

Not sure, but IIRC one of the mods once asked us to leave them be, CMDR Wolfzx12r is a special case. If I read through/follow their posts, I get the impression that he's laboring under brain trauma and heavy medication.
If you don't want to see his (or any other CMDR's) posts, you can hover over their profile picture and choose "ignore", then you won't see any content from them.

Wot @Ashnak says ^^^^

I did try to follow some of the messages before but I couldn't get the hang of it. It is good that they have a method of communication though.
Ok, thanks for the answers. I must admit I wondered if there was a perfectly reasonable explanation - I just didn't want to assume it was some Spam/Selling type stuff.

Apologies Cmdr Wolfzx12r - very cute dogs by the way!
