ObsidianAnt: Frontier - What The HECK Is Going On With Elite Dangerous?

What you say is, for me at least (for example Buur for me is more of a friend of frontier, and friends never criticise friends) , a confirmation of my personal belief that youtubers are not as much "influencers" as people might think, but more of someone who give a somewhat coherent speech that people can rally or identify with. Which makes this thread, and many more, a simple debate of two groups of people : those who think the game is in bad shape and those who don't all you need is to rally whomever "influencers" speak your mind. Of course, in every group there are people who goes a bit further into subject, being more or less "passioned" of it. I mean it cant be that 300k people that watch OA are all pending to buy odyssey and he influnces them into not to buy.... People just choose the voice that resonates with them.
Both sides of the debate have their zealots. Buur got raked over the coals because he was not "critical enough" when he reported on Frontier's announcement about consoles. As a self-identifying moderate / centrist, I watch both Buur and Obsidian, because both are very nice people who talk about a game I remain interested in. I actually defended Buur's right to have his own opinion in his contentious comment section, despite being more pessimistic about Frontier myself.

This mentality of "anyone who has a different opinion than I do is an evil enemy who must be punished / canceled" that so many people have lately is frightening. I don't pick the Youtubers I follow based on their opinions, but rather their personality. I much rather follow nice people like Obsidian and Buur, even when I disagree with them, than a nasty person (and I can list a few) who agree with all the core tenants of my "faith".

Seeing Frontier sent the Ant a lovely Easter Egg with a lovely thank you note, it's fairly obvious that Frontier think OA is a valuable friend.
Just as I said, its a personal vibe that every one gets from these youtubers. I am not arguing the fact that some are more or less friend, its the message they carry that gives me that feeling. The gift you speak of, does not carry much weight for me in forming an opinion. Its biased and i know, but no one can claim balance also.

Normally I'd read a product description, wouldn't you? Pretty much sums it up - but then, I have lived the majority of my life when 'social media' and youtube, twitch, etc. wasn't even a gleam in their creator's eye, it is amazing how well I have done without them.
True. I'm also old enough to remember when a phone was something you had at home, or the mail was delivered through your front door. Both were just channels of communication, and communication, strictly speaking, is just transferal of information. These days the young ones prefer having those bits transferred in new ways, but the point is that some information is useable and some is more or less pure noise. The media in itself does not define which info is true or false.

Reading a product description doesn't always tell the full story. I have a history when it comes to that (ad-cough-vertising), so lets stay clear of the details ;)

The only thing i would like to add is that opinions cant be formed without pesonality no matter what that opinion might be... If its dual and made for clicks so is the pesonality.
Edit : i hope it goes without saying its both valid for honest opinions too... Im not saying anything about these guys, its not my place to pick on them, i merely say that I might resonate more or less with someones speech based on message that they try to convey...

Ah, advertising... Where 2 out of 10 cats would rather eat food covered in motor oil than the advertised product?
Fortunately, I didn't mention advertising, else I'd be just condemning my own claim to being able to think and reason independently, wouldn't I? :ROFLMAO:

ETA: Although, for transparency, I did get bitten by CD Projekt Red's CP2077's change in direction on release, compared to the original intention. The only "AAA" game I bought and considered a waste of money.

Or more likely, he's just on the influencer marketing team's list of "popular youtubers who've given us their address".
Are you suggesting that when Frontier send messages that say 'You've been amazing', they may not mean it?

Really?

Doesn't it?

Really? Are you certain I think this way?

Sorry, Mum...

You do you, I'll just use my own grey matter, it works for me!

ETA: It isn't as if the youtubers are currently only regurgitating information about the game that is common knowledge... (Or spouting financial data, which again, over which the average player has no control - unless they have a few £million invested in shares, of course.)
to all the "really?" and "doesn't it" questions, my answer is yes.

seems like you have no arguments to counter my statements so you just post this few words. Btw. I am not your mum, I quite sure you are older than me and if I look down I am certain I could not be anyones mum.

Odyssey is not "selling as expected", Frontier themselves said as much in their financial forecasts.

Sure you can't please everyone 100% of the time, that's obvious but you do have to please enough people to make a game commercially viable and successful unless its a marketing smoke & mirrors sale which will lose you trust and cause reputation damage.
I still say ignore the forums - the odyssey release is not pleasing everybody, as they majorly cocked it up - i.e. released a product with major performance issues etc.
Th problems with listening to forums / user base is that you get a game designed by committee, or even worse a games that never delivers, but keeps promising (a' la Mr Roberts thing)

Excellent! I'm happy for you.

What is my real name? If you claim to know how I think?
Btw. I am not your mum,
No, she is dead, which isn't something I could say about yourself...
I quite sure you are older than me and if I look down I am certain I could not be anyones mum.
