Elite Dangerous Livestreams - 28.04.2022

They said they'd be in touch.
Can imagine the interview.

"Sounds great, I'd love to be doing this, I've been a fan of Elite since launch. What exactly would my duties be?"
You'll monitor fan feedback, and bring that back to us.
"Okay, what else?"
You'll announce things when we have things to announce.
"Oooh, that sounds amazing. How often do you expect that happening?"
Whenever we have something to announce.
"Yeah, but how often is that, usually?
Whenever we feel like it.
"But... that's not going to go over too well with the players of the..."
We've heard enough, we don't think you'd be a good fit, but if something else comes up we'll be in touch. Next?

I think it's more down to "Right everyone, we need to focus on the Warhammer release next week, and the F1 Manager release in the summer, so lets not bother with the Elite livestreams since there's nothing going on there until those are done anyways"

Also, weren't they trying to hire another CM specifically for Elite Dangerous recently? Wonder how that's going.

Hm. Cancellation in a carefully worded one-liner without any bells and jingles three days after they still announced the opposite doesn't look to me as planned. Besides, Warhammer is only published by Frontier (Foundry), but developed by Complex Games. But maybe you're right.

O7,
🙃

As the publisher tho, Frontier are the ones who'll package it, market it, and sell it. I'm sure the lads at Complex will do their own bit, but they're fairly small I think.

Can imagine the interview.

I think there needs to be a shakeup in terms of who's running Elite. Not talking about the CMs here, but whoever's in charge of the project in general seems apathetic at best, and their actions end up throwing those who are working for them under the bus on a regular basis.

Whoever is responsible for steering Elite Dangerous at Frontier needs to get their s**t together.
Amen. Could we please have this post as a sticker?

No apologies needed!

The post was worded carefully and precisely. We don't know when the streams will continue. When we do, we'll post to let everyone know.
Thanks for the heads up. However It is not the delay itself, which irritates, so much as what appears to be the inconsistancy of a company which seems so entusiastic "pleased and proud" to start up and provide new commincation via streams to have them withdrawn yet again.

Hats off to the CM team for forging ahead as long as they have. It must have got to a point where they say we can't go on today with nothing to say, again! Perhaps this was the reason for lack of engagement after Christmas. I hope all will be well but this information makes positivity harder to cling to. Management must be talking behind closed doors again. Winter is coming, perhaps!
I agree. If we're all this frustrated, I can only imagine what this does for the CM team's morale (I do hope they know most of us know they're just the meat in the sandwich). I'm certainly hopeful this temporary(?) cessation will end with some major announcement, like the next DLC or something like shifting to using a new engine like the new Unreal Engine instead of their Cobra engine, or Elite: Dangerous 2.......

No way are they going to rebuild everything in unreal engine, it not going to happen im afraid.

Its taken years to get this far, it will half again to change it.

Likewise, it will remain direct 11 DX11 and won't be changed to DX12. Therefore will never be able to benefit from DLSS

To all the people that say they expect something "AMAZING" coming out of this... how do they reason that it's better (for FDev, in the current state of things) not to say anything than at the very least hint at it (the silence being worth it)? Specially taking into account that people starts to have a more and more negative view of the game and the company as the days keep passing...

It amazes me how many people still prefer shooting the messenger to understanding the message...
Maybe I've only glance through the thread, but I don't see a lot of people "shooting" Bruce. Rather, people are lamenting the last two years of Elite Dangerous, from the "year off" prior to Odyssey's release to the disastrous Odyssey launch to the lack of communication since then to the cutting of console development (with silence as to whether those players will be casually abandoned or not) to the cutting of bug features to the fact that communication and change lasts about 6 times (roughly how many bug updates we got, roughly how many livestreams we got) before that's tossed aside.

None of that is aimed at Bruce, for he's not making the decisions. The puppet masters, however, are solely to blame.

My comment wasn't actually about responses to the OP, but the ones directed at Obsidian Ant (both in this thread and another). Though I should probably have mentioned that. :)

I'm not trying to judge the situation from my side, because on the whole I'm not really a fan of this community. But if I did, it would come out something like this.
Starring: FDev, played by Nicole Randall Johnson aka "Darrel", the community is played by this rapper. 😜

Don't forget, to truly represent the forums, the back of the cinema would be populated by all of her ex boyfriends - the lads that claimed they've moved on, but still hang around her, on the excuse of "I like the drama"

"Something amazing"? Well, that would be two to three years from now, wouldn't it? ...with the unveiling of whatever next paid DLC may be in some stage of preplanning/preproduction about now, and which will take time to produce (...and I'd assume there being no multiple teams with overlapping schedules, for these)...
I guess the scope of such a PDLC would likely be in flux for now, pending ongoing results from FDev's efforts at trying to get that helplessly drifting player-attraction/retention supertanker of their's turned around.

In the interim, I'd expect story arcs to progress and piece-meal introduce new part-of-Odyssey elements, which would currently be in various states of completion, at similar rates to what we have ever seen in the game (regardless of having shed the "season" terminology). Those little drip-fed tidbits are going to have to keep us interested for a long time.

Would such tidbits in, say, the form of Thargoids-in-the-flesh count as amazing? Would hive ships? Dockable hive ships? Operational doors at guardian sites? Would an addition to planet type accessibility, however minor? Would any of those be in the least likely to be in running content, rather than a full expansion?

The engine build is probably set in stone, until the next expansion, save minor fixes and tweaks, unfortunately never having addressed things like the severly limited star system lighting -- hopefully at least the drunk-driving HDR tonemapping can be reined in... We already know terrain for current planets have been frozen. Some new stuff will probably include a new mission template, or two; One might think more general mission templates, overall, would be a no-brainer, but history...

As for a cancelled livestream... Well - nothing lost there, in this one player's opinion - not interested in seeing others play the game, nor in screenshots; And "all hands on deck" for an upcoming release makes perfect sense - plenty of weeks to pick up the ball again.

One can dream.

In reality though, all signs point to the game being abandoned. The live service is possibly over, servers will remain online for years to come for sure, but they'll clearly not invest anything into ED other than maybe a couple more Updates to EDO if we are lucky. No more story arcs, no more expansions.

EDIT: Have a look at FDev's FY22 results. Barely a mention of ED and nothing on ongoing developments there.
