"Something amazing"? Well, that would be two to three years from now, wouldn't it? ...with the unveiling of whatever next paid DLC may be in some stage of preplanning/preproduction about now, and which will take time to produce (...and I'd assume there being no multiple teams with overlapping schedules, for these)...
I guess the scope of such a PDLC would likely be in flux for now, pending ongoing results from FDev's efforts at trying to get that helplessly drifting player-attraction/retention supertanker of their's turned around.
In the interim, I'd expect story arcs to progress and piece-meal introduce new part-of-Odyssey elements, which would currently be in various states of completion, at similar rates to what we have ever seen in the game (regardless of having shed the "season" terminology). Those little drip-fed tidbits are going to have to keep us interested for a long time.
Would such tidbits in, say, the form of Thargoids-in-the-flesh count as amazing? Would hive ships? Dockable hive ships? Operational doors at guardian sites? Would an addition to planet type accessibility, however minor? Would any of those be in the least likely to be in running content, rather than a full expansion?
The engine build is probably set in stone, until the next expansion, save minor fixes and tweaks, unfortunately never having addressed things like the severly limited star system lighting -- hopefully at least the drunk-driving HDR tonemapping can be reined in... We already know terrain for current planets have been frozen. Some new stuff will probably include a new mission template, or two; One might think more general mission templates, overall, would be a no-brainer, but history...
As for a cancelled livestream... Well - nothing lost there, in this one player's opinion - not interested in seeing others play the game, nor in screenshots; And "all hands on deck" for an upcoming release makes perfect sense - plenty of weeks to pick up the ball again.
