Console Profile Transfers and 2022 Updates

FDev, thank you so much for not hanging us console Cmdrs out to dry. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the opportunity to transfer to PC. I will continue on on console for the foreseeable future. Really pleased I’ll one day be able to play Odyssey without starting from scratch

Don't forget this little section.
This process will be time limited and optional. We will provide a date for this process once it is confirmed.
If you're planning on switching to Ody on PC, and bringing your Console cmdr over, you'll need to do it during the limited time it's open. After that it's implied that transfers go back to normal (at least how I read it).

Happy that I can transfer my CMDR to PC! A little bit sad about the Carriers though. I have well over 200 Thargoid Hearts, SAP-8 Cores, and Trinkets of Hidden Fortune aboard mine for Raxxla research purposes and I guess I have to lose all those now. Still worth it for keeping all my other progress. Thank you FDev, I know I have been very critical (and still will be when you mess up again, lol), but I can at least recognize effort when I do see it. I know sorting all this transfer details out behind closed doors probably took a decent amount of staff hours and took management away from other stuff, so for myself and the console community, thank you for taking the time to work this out for us. While we would have loved to see continued development on consoles, this transfer will be an ok compromise for at least some of the users from these platforms. Hopefully someday in the future, two or so years maybe, Fdev can reassess if Next Gen console support will be worth it, that is if the game is still being developed for at that point in time. Once again, thank you.
You will get a new Horizons PC account with a copy of your console CMDR. No Odyssey, no impact to or merge with any existing PC account is what is being stated.
Is this correct? I have a PC commander with a lot of progress but my oldest and main account is Xbox. Are Frontier planning on giving us a Horizons license on PC with our console (copy) save?

I'd imagine that they don't want to rewrite the account transfer program if they update the game, thus a limited time window to do it.

True, don't know the reasoning for it, but was just pointing out that if you think you want to do a transfer you need to pull the trigger when it's available. It's not a sit around and decide what you want to do kind of thing.

Yes. They stated it explicitly on the stream. Frontier is giving a PC Horizons account to console players who wish to transfer their console accounts to PC.

Following the launch of Odyssey in 2021, we started publishing monthly development posts to share our progress on subsequent updates. In light of the remaining updates for 2022 being confirmed above, these will not continue. However, we will still provide detailed patch notes, information, and other relevant details around updates and hotfixes as they are released between each development post.
I'm not sure i understood correctly, are development updates cancelled?
So are you back to super secret development until its relese?

Because that's gone so well until Odyssey (included), isn't it?...

Great news … like others, I have the same CMDR name already on both PlayStation and PC. So …

1. Will I be able to copy PlayStation progress onto my existing PC CMDR?

2. It sounds like “no” … so … could I at least overwrite my PC CMDR so that I maintain the same CMDR name? I’d have to redo some Odyssey progress at that point but I can live with that.

Basically, I already own Odyssey on PC and I don’t really want two accounts, one for Ship Stuff and one for Foot Stuff.

Here's my feedback post for FDev... Community guys heads-up.

1st sounds like you're doing the best that can be done for the console players. I'm glad you're doing that for them. You all get full credit for this work.

Now, that's really the only positive thing I have to say. This roadmap seems EXTREMELY light. And you're pulling back on engagement. And telling us to hang around because there's more really cool stuff coming soon.

Up until recently you have, hands down, the best space game on the market. (My opinion, but it's probably shared by many). Even with the normal salt on the forums with each update and bug cycle, the game has gotten better and better since I started in 2016. The Odyssey launch was abysmal, but you all can get a mulligan for that with Covid shutdowns and maybe you made a mistake prioritizing shareholders over players or whatever. I'm over it, and I think many players are too. But now things are going to stagnate??

I don't engage much with the narrative. That's one of the key selling points of Elite to me. I get to play it my way. For the rest of the year all I have to look forward to is narrative stuff?

You HAVE the best space game, but your margin is shrinking daily. There are new games all the time, and Star Citizen keeps progressing closer and closer to a complete-ish game. Even NMS has evolved into a really viable game.(Backstory, the hype around NMS launch is what lead me to Elite). I have 1 year 3 months 11 days 5 hours active in-game. I have friends, ships, star-systems, first discovered tags, so many achievements that actually mean something to me. I don't want to go play another game. You HAVE the best game. Please invest in it to keep it at the top.

Keep the communication up. What are your EXACT plans for the game. What do you need to make that happen? You started this game with David & team talking directly to the community, sharing the vision, and the community invested in the game to make it happen. Why don't you trust us in the same way again. I recognize that legally you MUST prioritize the shareholders over your players.. But surely you all realize that if you lose the players, the shareholders will suffer?

I think the first option is a given, the second option I don't think is being offered is it?

Deleted save would still likely be considered an account merge. You get a completely new PC account as a copy of your console account, that's it.

Guess that will be cleared by the time the transfers will be enabled.

But maybe @Paul_Crowther will be able to get this cleared way before that with the dev team and provide an answer for this scenario below
As in: will be possible to transfer a console account to an existing horizons+odyssey pc account provided that all the previous data is erased (full save erased in advance)? So technically will not be an account merge since no previous data will be retained in that account

This scenario will save people from purchasing Odyssey again for the transferred account if they were impatient enough and already purchased Odyssey following the console dev drop announced 10th March by DB himself

Am I right in thinking that fleet carriers are persistent in all platforms? So if you buy a carrier on Xbox it will be in game on all platforms.

I AM glad that Elite has not been fully abandoned. I really am. I a m very dissapointed about the meager Roadmap though..... It literally means nothing major is coming till next year....

You could request a CMDR name change on PC before the console transfer? It might work?

1. Nope, no account merge
2 . The commander name will not get transferred - so your PS cmdr name will get lost

Arthur just said ED isn't dead.

That's right, you heard it here first! Not dead! No doom!
Right! Never had any doubt. DOOM is delayed once again, happy to fly a bit longer with new stuff to come.

Maybe bad for the ones cashing in on the DOOM hype, but I don‘t care. I‘ve canceled all my subscriptions to channels which have overdone the DOOM narrative and calling everyone a white knight who dares to play and like the game.

o7 CMDRs

Oh.

🤣

Seriously though, there's plenty of awesome Elite content creators to choose from! :)

Yes, it will be visible on all platforms
But you will not be able to transfer that carrier to the PC when the transfers will be enabled.
However, you''ll probably get refunded during the transfer so you can re-purchase the carrier on your newly pc account (or you'll have to decommission the carrier pre-transfer)*

* (I'd actually hope they do that so the number of carriers will not be doubled for the transferees)
