Console Profile Transfers and 2022 Updates

Hey sounds good, personally encouraged theres still more work on optimisation of odd.

Is there any chance you could take a look at contents of this post again over the next 6 months?

The fact that someone was able to produce the horizons skybox in odd and identify the exact point where stars become erased from the image may be a useful clue for restoring the skybox. If the space game had stars again, to me anyway any lingering performance hits (possibly even the planet tech) would be much easier to try and bare.

Also for performance, on my machine, its pretty much the megashader that kicks in as soon as fire starts, so any attention there would be welcome.

Good luck!

@Rat Catcher see told you the game isn't doomed. Horizons is still going on consoles and pc forever its not going away.

EDIT: Also thanks for the free alt account frontier. That will be 4 for me, but this one full of cosmetics from console, treat. Got another 3 free epic accounts sure but there's only so much..

Will any of this involve ships??

cue Mandatory Panther Clipper post
The T10-Defender and the Alliance collaboration with Lakon released 3 Cheifton type ships... and all of them were released as "Narrative Content".

With that said, I do not know what FDev have planned.

What I do know though is that whatever FDev have planned can't be mentioned prior to relase of said update because it is tightly knit with the narrative. And they do not want to spoil that narrative. At least we now have dates to look forward to. That is way better than what we had previously.

Consoles are cheap because they're commodity items, they expire. There was always going to come a time when the launch platforms couldn't keep up and players had to buy something new.

You're not 'forced to buy a powerful PC' My 2016/17 system can run Odyssey, but either way a road map shoudn't determine your purchases for any game, be it Elite Dangerous or Anthem or any of the other 'live services'. Judge it on what it's like now. If you want to play it, there's a cost of entry. If you don't want to play it, then you've not lost out.
Believe me that Frontier's roadmaps weren't the reason I played it so much, I've seen their previous ones and they were never very impressive.
The cost of entry doesn't interest me at all, I can afford a new pc, that's not the problem.
I bought the first Xbox One especially for the GPP version of ED, I then got me the Xbox One X for better performance.
I now have the Xbox Series X, not just for ED but for the Series X enhanced games like No Man's Sky and the later this year being released Starfield etc.
Me having to buy a pc now in order to be able to keep playing, with emphasis on "keep", Elite dangerous is no cost of entry, it's a forced investment I'll have to make.

My biggest gripe is that this is all happening due to mismanagement on their side.
I've been a gamer since the early eighties I've seen many games go down due to mismanagement, I've never seen a developer stop supporting a game for a platform it was released on like Frontier does now though.

Frontier could learn a thing or two from much smaller devs like Hello Games when it comes to prioritizing.
HG managed to support all excisting platforms, it took them only a short while to release an enhanced version for the new consoles PS5 and Xbox S/X, they managed to implement full VR support, the list goes on, al the while managing to produce a load of new content too.
That's a developer I trust, not the ones like Frontier who develop a lot of stuff half and then neglect it, powerplay, multicrew, console support, etc, etc.

But who am I?
I loved playing ED but Frontier made choices that I'm not willing to support and spend money on any longer.
We both lost, they lost a player, and many others no doubt, I lost a game that used to be my favorite.
It's sad realy.

Fortunatly there are other games that I like, and other activities besides gaming.
Frontier is more dependent on me, the paying costumer, then I am of them.

You're sure of that? because the text written is a bit ambiguous, "Cosmetic items applied through the Livery (ships and Fleet Carriers) and Holo-Me will remain applied." that just sounds to me like the livery already on my ships wont suddenly disappear, not that your library will be there. That's why I want some confirmation.
They stated in the live stream that any cosmetics bought will be transfered to your PC. They can't transfer Arx because of how Arx is handled by Microsoft and Sony.

"*The process will require a new name to be chosen if the original name is not available on PC."

I'm confused about this part, can somebody clarify this for me? I switched from PS4 to PC with a new name, does that mean I have to delete my old pc account name and make a new one?

I transferred from xbox to PC quite a while ago and at time was told only money would transfer - i lost all my ships, ship kits, modifications everything i had spent real money on the store for

Now youre saying you can transfer all this? So can i get all my old stuff back ????
If i remember correctly, the transfer deleted your console account once it completed. I'd bet anything all your stuff is permanently gone. Thats the sole reason i never did the transfer myself, my engineered modules were way more important than money.

As far as I understood you get a new account (different email) with a free licence of EDH and most of your commander data transferred. If the name of your console commander is already in use on PC, you'll have to change it to a new one.

Nope, Arf said people optioning for the transfer will be given a free horizons copy
Seriously! I need to listen to the stream myself. In order to even set up an account transfer I had to have already purchased an horizon license and made a new Commander. Now that has changed?

After years of grinding on ps4, i built a gaming pc instead. Sadly, i had to leave ED behind, as i wasnt willing to delete all my hard work and transfer my money to PC. Super excited to get back out in the void with a 3090 and a reverb G2.

Yes. I highly doubt you'll be able to blend an old account with a new account. And in your case, if you already did the money transfer, all of your old stuff is gone anyway.

So in other words I have to replace my old pc save and create a new pc save and merge all my stuff to that account to transfer all my stuff from my PS4 account?

No, I haven't. I switched to PC after I heard that they won't do Odyssey for ps4. Then put a ticket for assets transfer and was then told to wait while they assess their new policy on transfers.
Nice. Im assuming you will have to delete your current pc save, and they will create a new save when the transfer happens. Or i guess you could not delete it and have 2 separate accounts. either way, your current stuff and your old stuff wont be in the same account.

I've never seen a developer stop supporting a game for a platform it was released on like Frontier does now though.
This is absolutely nothing new. It has been done plenty of times by MMO style games where a console branch is eventually EOL'd because it is hamstringing development on the remaining branches. The PS2 in particular was a fairly common victim of this including a SEGA title such as Phantasy Star Universe or one from Square Enix in the form of Final Fantasy XI. Them closing the door on consoles that are older than the current generation is can be due to many factors beyond just graphics. Available RAM they can allocate to the program is another of those things that just comes up with reasons to drop a launch platform.

Greetings Commanders,

We’d like to thank you all for your patience whilst we’ve been working on our communications and development plans for the remainder of the year.

Following the launch of Odyssey, our primary focus has been on performance, optimisation and bug fixing, along with adding more features. This focus has had a knock-on effect with regards to our plans for this year and beyond and delayed our communications.

We understand the concern and frustration this has caused and hope this post goes some way to alleviate those feelings. Below we discuss profile transfers for console players and give an overview of the updates coming before the end of 2022.

Console Profile Transfers

We can now confirm that players will be able to copy their profiles from console to PC in light of Odyssey’s cancellation on Xbox and PlayStation. This process will be time limited and optional. We will provide a date for this process once it is confirmed.

The original profile will remain playable on console and the new PC profile will be a copy. Only one profile may be copied over per copy of the game. Please also be aware that this will be a one-time only process.

Elements that will be copied
  • Ships, Holo-Me, weapons, SRVs and SLFs
    • Including Cobra Mk IV if owned
  • Core progression (this includes…)
    • Inventory
    • Reputation
    • Navy Ranks
    • Permits
    • Codex Discoveries
    • Engineering progress
    • Guardian Tech Broker progress
  • NPC Crew progress
  • Cosmetics*
*Cosmetic items applied through the Livery (ships and Fleet Carriers) and Holo-Me will remain applied.

Elements that won’t be copied
  • Commander name*
  • ARX Balance**
  • Squadron membership
  • Friends lists, Block lists and Private Groups
  • Current mission progress
  • NPC Crew names and appearances

*The process will require a new name to be chosen if the original name is not available on PC.

**ARX balances cannot be transferred. We recommend that anyone who submits their account for the transfer process purchases any desired cosmetics beforehand. Any unspent ARX post-transfer will remain available on the original console profile.

Fleet Carriers and their contents

Fleet Carrier ownership cannot be transferred from one Commander to another. To players that wish to own a Fleet Carrier post-transfer we would advise the following:
  1. Decommission your Fleet Carrier ahead of the transfer
  2. Wait for the decommissioning to complete (two weeks).
  3. Check that credits from the decommissioning have been returned.
  4. Complete the profile transfer process
  5. Re-purchase a Fleet Carrier on PC
Precise dates for the opening and close of this process will be announced closer to the time.

Roadmap

Here we present our top-level roadmap for the remainder of 2022. Our three focuses before the year ends are launching the next phase of the narrative, stability and optimisation. We’ll release three more updates to support these.

Within the narrative, human space balances on the precipice as tension mounts within the bubble. The Azimuth Saga will conclude in a grand finale event, the consequences of which will mark the beginning of the next stage of the Elite story in Update 14.

Meanwhile, updates 12 and 13 will largely focus on quality-of-life changes, stability and optimisation. Work has also begun on a major feature overhaul for 2023 that we’ll discuss later in the year.

Please note that the details and timings of each release are subject to change and that any adjustments will be shared ahead of time. Beyond this we are also discussing additional game content, and we’ll reveal it once confirmed.

Development Updates and Streams

Following the launch of Odyssey in 2021, we started publishing monthly development posts to share our progress on subsequent updates. In light of the remaining updates for 2022 being confirmed above, these will not continue. However, we will still provide detailed patch notes, information, and other relevant details around updates and hotfixes as they are released between each development post.

Regular streams from the Community team have returned. Going forwards, these will be fortnightly on Thursdays at 16:00-18:00 GMT. This additional time between streams will allow us to put on longer shows and take full advantage of the in-office studio. Frameshift Live has only just started and we have many exciting ideas to explore in the future! If you have not been watching, these streams now feature new and exclusive Twitch Drops that can be earned simply by watching.

We will also be launching our Partnership Programme later this year, offering content creators their own exclusive Twitch drops their communities can earn by watching them. More on this in the coming months!

We hope this post clarifies our continued support and plans for Elite. As always, we thank you for your feedback and support.

Is it still possible to transfer old account data if I did the transfer in the past when it was credits only? I would love to still have a chance of getting all of my old console stats.
