Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Ah, but I other management style games that fill that particular niche for me. I’m not particularly looking for games that cross niches. I think that was one of the problems I had with No Man’s Sky. Eventually, it evolved into a management style game, only played solely in FPS, rather than a survival game.
When you say, "Stop making me want to buy X4!" all I need to do is try to make you want to buy X4, and your response is always, "Yuck, no way!"

Mission accomplished ;)

Of course this makes me want to try Star Citizen all the more, because you say "Yuck!" to that as well, and if X4 is a "yuck" game for you while being a "I love this!" game for me, maybe Star Citizen will be too!

Ah, if only Drew doing nothing for hours was great evidence of anything...
I much rather watch Drew do "nothing" for hours in Star Citizen than watch anyone sit in supercruise for hours in Elite. This is something that has plagued many of Frontier's own livestreams in the past. At least Drew is DOING "nothing" - in supercruise there isn't even any "doing", LOL.

Though I confess, the videos I've watched of both Drew and Obsidian Ant just faffing around did not include any long quantum drive trips. How long does it take to quantum drive across the solar system in SC?

It is kinda funny how despite that how very little Drew does during his streams...
To be fair, he never played to progress much in Elite either. Spent years in the original backer Cobra with not much progress as far as I remember. I presume his goal was (and is) not really to play and progress in the game, but to play the game only as a necessary mean to increase awareness about his book/writing business. Nothing wrong with that though, so fair enough.

Not long. Feels like roughly 5-10 minutes tops across Stanton at the moment

Can you do things while in QD? I'm pretty sure you can walk around your ship, for example. Though I don't know if there is anything to DO in a ship, like there is in Space Engineers or X4 Foundations. If Star Citizen is modeling wrinkles in your bed covers, surely they can have a holographic game we can play with a Wookie copilot while in hyperspace, LOL.

Yep. Get up, potter around your ship, interact with the UI all the kind of things you expect.

There's an actual chess set on one of the ships you can play with as well.:D

Well, my expectations are kinda high thanks to Space Engineers, X4 Foundations, and Subnautica. I want meaningful interactions with the UI, not just opening and closing doors for 10 minutes straight.

Though if food and drink are now part of surviving in SC, I could see going down to the galley during a long trip and cooking up some lunch. :)

Do you want me to post here a whole bunch of multiple hours long of video with no 30k ?

Not really, because it wouldn't tell us anything about whether 30ks have got better or worse comparatively. Whereas the posts describing a worse experience in 3.17 compared to 3.15/.16, do...

PS I thought you didn't have an issue with this premise. So any reason you're still posting 'against' it?

Oh yeah for sure. SC is much more appealing for streaming all told.

(Enjoying the bugs vicariously can also be preferable ;))

Of course

What I meant by that is, you can for example, browse contracts available etc. as you transit.

Its nowhere near the depth of say, X-4

Y'all act like Odyssey is some bug-free paradise. That's not what I've seen in countless streams and screenshots.

Nope. Just making the very uncontroversial assertion that: The buggy pre-alpha game known as Star Citizen is a buggy pre-alpha game.

Naturally of course, what I must have meant, is that Elite Dangerous Odyssey is gaming nirvana. Next time I should remember to write that

How about we wait until SC implements an(other) solar system and how it handles traveling light years away from the home system before casting judgement on how other games do it.

Or is SC being in first person automatically better, regardless if there is nothing to do but get up and walk around your ship while traveling? It could magic away the travel time and have same travel times as within a solar system but that's not very fidelicious is it. It already takes minutes just to travel .00000001 of a light year away, within the same solar system, let alone thousands of light years.

Why not ? You make collections of what you think can show SC in a bad light, giving a false impression that the alpha kill you every 10 min (30k, bugs) while it's completely false since a long time. Showing hours of playtime could be a good way to go 'against it'.
But be reassured, there is not enough people here for me to waste my time doing it.

Yes you can walk inside your ship during QT.
For now, you can only :
  • roleplay. It's really enjoyable with a group of friends as there is a lot of roleplay stuff in medium/large ships
  • manage your personnal inventory toward the ship inventory and racks
  • rarely (during some special events) manage boxes in your cargo
  • play chess (with a bad UI) in the Mercury Star Runner
CIG have plans to give you tasks to do (maintenance, hygiene, refill magazine, managing armors...) but appart for the refill magazine nothing to see at short/mid term.

Hold on a minute.

 😋
You're way past "skeptic".

This thread is 99% crazy people crying "Chris Roberts is the antichrist!" a hundred times a day, so one little ant isn't going to turn this into a Woodstock concert full of hippy joy, LOL.

What about this eating and drinking survival system I've read about somewhere? Is that in the game now, or later? I'm just thinking that in flight might be a good time for a snack. Speaking of, fancy space yachts should come with stewards to serve me drinks!
