Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

The server loosing its state is the reason why CIG works since several years on Server Meshing partly to resolve this problem. The actual server manage more than 500 000 entities alone. SM is not ready yet and as long as it's not ready and added in game, you will see NPC standing on chair. Not seeing the solution yet doesn't mean they don't work hard on it.
Indeed, the Server Meshing tech that they've been working on for 4+ years now and was coming.... Q4 2018... is still a long time off

It's been several years they started working on gen 12 renderer and it's only since 3.17 they are ready to add it in game.
Gen12 isn't anywhere near complete yet, as CIG keep telling us all. You should read what the developers tell us. It's not "ready to add it in game"; they've added some portions of it in, like they've literally told us... repeatedly. Stop making things up, you just keep making yourself look silly to interested newcomers like @Old Duck
The result ? 50% more fps for a lot of players, more for others and some players with x3 fps.
Anecdotal claims like that don't help anyone either. CIG provide telemetry so people can see exactly what players get:
Good news everyone, the SC telemetry shows a performance increase on average.

Now 3% of players get 60FPS+ instead of 1%, and only 19% of players get lower than 30FPS instead of 26% 🤭

The guy doing bedsheet deformation can only be assigned to tasks related to its domain of expertise. No one know if this guy can be helpful on other tasks on the actual SQ42 alpha.
Yes "there are so many other critically fundamental things to sort", but which critical thing this particular guy can work on ? If he's not helpful on any of those tasks, CIG should fire him or try to add a new capability to its engine ?
If all this person can do is bedsheet deformation then cig should never had hired them. And if it's all they can do, then cig should indeed let them go...... along with whoever hired them......

......but oh my gawd this thread has always had moments of farcical hilarity, but this.......... wow..... just wow........

Does anyone know the thread count of the deformed sheets?

Obviously Egyptian cotton will deform and crease differently to Walmart Value sheets.

And with Egyptian cotton the Fidel count is all important....

...nope... sorry, I can't stop finding this absolute nonsense absolutely hilarious.........

Anecdotal claims like that don't help anyone either. CIG provide telemetry so people can see exactly what players get:
As far as my hardware and performance in game is concerned, the telemetry lies...with forked tongue...shall we say. In the telemetry page, my system is under marked in system RAM and with an incorrect GPU stating that I'm in the expected 48.5 average fps range...still top right corner of the telemetry and far above the minimum system requirements of course, but still wrong.

If I select the configuration manually with the correct amount of RAM and especially, the correct CPU/GPU combination, the expected fps values look a bit more on point at an average of 55+ fps...but that's a low average of what I actually experience in 3.17 where I'm regularly in the 70 fps+ range with the exception of city spawn areas where the average is 40-55 fps.

Anyhoo, besides not heeding the telemetry data too much since it's about as relevant to regular SC players as a statistic on how many people have red front doors or have cats who like cheese...

From personal anecdotal evidence...3.17 has overall greatly improved framerates for the majority of players regardless of hardware...but also overall... still greatly broken for everybody... Which is the statistic not covered by telemetry that really matters. Watching your ship blow away or falling through a planet, whether it be at 100 fps 4k on a $5,000 custom gaming rig or at 10 fps 720p on a $200 bargain bin laptop is absolutely irrelevant ;)

I also got great FPS while staring directly at the floor in HL2 with a tnt2 card

Now add 20 player ships in a dog fight and see what you get

Not aimed at you Mole, more of a personal observation. I do get better frames in the latest patch when I'm not doing much, but interacting or seeing other players brings me right back to crap frames

Also I didn't even get to my ship without hitting a 30k lol

And yes, bugs are everywhere still. Game breaking ones that I don't have the patience for

My 7 year old 27" 60Hz 1080p left hand monitor has just went pop...it's like playing with one eye shut. Had to fork out and order a new & shiny 27" 165Hz 2k one to replace it. It might have been old and had been relegated to just displaying all the day to day guff I run in the background when I'm playing on the main monitor rather than being a gaming display...but as the last remaining part of my original PC build from back then, there was a touch of nostalgia attached to it

Back in 2015/16 when the original Mole cave was the 'Harry Potter' cupboard under the stairs :D

Glad I don't have to fly it in for you....

With so few improvement on FPS, 30k returning 'en force', the silly news on bedsheet, less cards on the roadmap, ramps flipping every ships, all the bugs killing everybody every 10 min, NPC still Tposing, no addition of valuable gameplay... good news the fleetweek should be a complete disaster😋

Such negative hyperbole won't discourage whales from eagerly buying jpegs during the next $hip $ale. 😃
CIG, Turbulent and the Calders, all know very well how effective their marketing and FOMO is at securing revenue for dividends, mansions and Answer The Call 2016 development. It's a well-oiled money-maker now.
Fleet Week is the eighth (maybe ninth?) sale event in 2022 already I think? $45 (+VAT) game packages don't provide enough revenue; $300 average per backer was the last info CIG gave us, and they need such large monetary amounts to keep flowing (y)

For sure, the "whales" are responsible at 98% of the current funding. Can I conclude they are happy whales ? Because if the number of players stagnates (or increases so little), the only way to explain the explosion of funding is probably a similar explosion of average whale's income :sneaky:

There's someone whose job it is to go in and mess up other folks' bedsheets?.. a kind of reverse chambermaid

Talking of flying things in...we had an 'incident' on the island yesterday where one of the local private pilots flew over his brother in law's cottage at around 30 feet in his Cessna and dropped a piece of cardboard weighted with a stone that read, "My sister is moaning that you need get off your fat behind and cut the grass!" 🤭

Certainly not all of them…

An alternative conclusion is that: New whales are available.

More new whales than quitting ones, so strange for a game in such a bad state... And with all this decade of bad news and angry whales all around, how can all those new whales still fall in the trap ? Should it be that... that they enjoy playing the alpha ? Schocking !!! No, I'm jocking, fun is irrelevant, they fall because when they discover all the promises they feel the urge to open their wallet...
