Thought that would mean I'd have to buy Elite Dangerous and Odyssey on Steam, and I have no use for a third alt at this time. I'm usually using my alt as a way to get consequence-free practice with the on-foot gameplay, and even then she's sitting idle for weeks at a time.

Both largely unfit for a service as GFN or similar streaming platforms. Waiting for upgrading any of the two to 5G, then at 300+ mbps things could get reasonable.This is just a cop out.
