Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

But if I was at home on my computer, I'd be playing games, not chatting away on a game forum. Especially when there's a Buckyball Race going on, which is when I get most frustrated by how little contiguous time I have to play games these days. :(

I hear you, it's been three days now I've been trying to launch the game just to have my ships shipped to Rebuy Prospect, I hope to at least put in an attempt or two before Saturday

...I just don't like people stalking female employees online, scourging twitter to ridicule fans of a 'rival game' and all that kind of stuff that normal people instinctively find rather distasteful...

I dunno sounds a lot like 'normal' people to me.

Playing X4 is productive, literally (ish) ;)

A mention of the X games is just the ticket for what needs to be thrown into a SC/ED flame war to lend a little perspective. I don't like how SC seems to succeed at aggressively ripping people off but as a space-trading game, it's essentially on the same team as ED.

Hmm... maybe for when I'm on lunch at work.

Thought that would mean I'd have to buy Elite Dangerous and Odyssey on Steam, and I have no use for a third alt at this time. I'm usually using my alt as a way to get consequence-free practice with the on-foot gameplay, and even then she's sitting idle for weeks at a time.

But this is the Star Citizen thread, not about ED, and I know that game is not out on Steam. Which would open them up to aggregated customer reviews, which IMO would be a good thing for consumers, but bad for coffers of the Roberts clan.

edit: But it would allow me to place Space Engineers!

Wait! $400??? Maybe I should see if I can fit my old lap top into my tiny locker at work. No wait, it barely fits my iPad as it is. :(

I hope to live long enough to play Xn Whatever - an X game with Star Citizen graphics. That would be a perfect way to spend my sunset years in the nursing home 🤗

Hopefully I can still see well enough to appreciate those graphics when that day comes...

I will be finding myself spending countless hours on jet planes this summer, and I've been entertaining how to pass that time. I don't want to bring my nice gaming laptop (too risky IMO), but I have considered bringing my old laptop and catching up on the X3 saga of games I bought long ago but never played. That's another advantage of X games - they run great on Linux!

Now I just need to figure out how to get X3's microscopic UI text enlarged so I can read it on a 15 inch screen...

OK, that what I though. If you don't want to discuss how you calculate your 2000$ per new player I will let you believe that your source numbers are accurates and the margin error on your calculation is tiny.
For me to be able to give you MY estimation, the least I need is to have the source of your numbers to be able to use them in my own calculation (which will be not the same as your calculation completly missing at least all margins of error and some logic facts).
How do you want me to discuss your numbers (it's you asking me to respond to it) whithout giving me the tools to do it.
Lol, see this is exactly what I'm talking about.
I provided the breakdown of pretty much everything in my post and how I got those numbers, it's literally all there.
I'm sure you could do a search for 'star citizen funding spreadsheet' if you really wanted to. Trying to make out I'm not willing to back my stuff up is just another example of your bad faith posturing.
Always falling back on trolling when confronted in any way.

If it's for lunch breaks and such just get a random old device you have laying around, laptop, tablet whatever and use the free GFN service. Max session is o e hour but that's no issue here.

An exceptionally good connection is though.
(Well maybe exceptional is an hyperbole, but even just 40-50 mbits at sub-50 ms ping is not a thing to give for granted in most places)

iirc, there is a thread on Egosoft forum about a blind dude using 3rd party aops to play the game.

I'm am not trolling. Your 85 % come from which source? Because you know, replacing 85% with 25% doesn't give exactly the same result...

ONUS IMPROBATIONIS (“Burden of disproof”), making a claim and then putting the onus on other people to disprove it"
You claim that the chart correspond to $2000 per player to be accurate and afterthat refuse to give me the tools to disprove it... See?

To be honest your own opinion on the subject is much weaker than Cotics because yours seems to be just based on little more than a “because I like it and it fits my narrative so there”:

Do you realise that the best way to explain why the funding of SC is going so well in 2022 is because newcomers enjoy the game ?
May I suggest we step back to the beginning and you try and demonstrate your own “calculation” for that to start with?

Why for example you don’t think whales are the critical element in funding (assuming we believe CIG figures)?

What are your figures of players actually “enjoying the game” vs players not enjoying it vs grey market speculative purchases vs players who buy misled by CIG’s (and fans) misrepresentations and then do not actually enjoy it (hint, I hope it is not based on Dan’s videos posted here?).

Ah, true. Have had a pretty amazing connection no matter where I live over here, keep forgetting it's often quite different outside of western Europe.

Ha yes, because flowed calculations are more relevant than simple logic... Like if pages and pages of flat earther calculations were more relevant than the simple logic of seeing only the mast of a boat on the horizon to know the earth is round... Still waiting to know where this 85% come from... can I use 25% for my own calculation (or another random number) to please you with a stronger opinion on the subject ?

Indulge me. Please show us why you think whales or speculative grey market related purchases are not the core element of CIGs funding. Should be easy for you to demonstrate if it is that simple.
There is no evidence the regressive function of gameplay delivered would correspond to an increasein whale money.
It is more likely the laundry aspect of their finance is increasing. Heck, maybe it's russian government trolls exercising Code Red with us. They gave to learn their job somewhere.

Could be also an option indeed. Wouldn’t be “new player enjoying the game” anyways at any rate.

You absolutely are trolling. I have already explained why your "burden of disproof" argument is not something I am willing to engage in. I made that quite clear and here you are, at it again.
You made the claim that new players account for the majority of this year's income so you back that up. Provide your own sources to support your claim instead of trying to get me to link spreadsheets and game monetization percentage sources etc.

Indeed, we have broad 1 Gbps landline coverage in most of major cities and even smaller towns down here, it's actually more of a problem how to make fiber reach the specific house in some cases, as in mine 😅. So for now, even though I have fiber a few meters below me, I'm "forced" to use either the home uncapped 4G with sub-20 Mbps speeds on average, or the faster 50-60 mobile one with a monthly 100 GB. Both largely unfit for a service as GFN or similar streaming platforms. Waiting for upgrading any of the two to 5G, then at 300+ mbps things could get reasonable.

This is just a cop out. I won't show you mine (despite making the initial claim) unless you show me yours. This is why I accuse you of trolling and arguing in bad faith. You have no intention of providing any evidence because you know you can't, you operate off feelings as opposed to any facts. You want to discredit other people's positions because the claim itself is irrelevant, it is all about getting some form of 'win'.
