elite dangerous is a true success

It could take as much as ten seconds, but as little as five.
That is a very long time, indeed!
I'll be curious to see how EDO behaves (network related as I already know my laptop's performance is poor in EDO) when I take a short break next month and will rely on my mobile phone for internet access.

The one negative to my praise is that it's a whole lot easier to add this effect (planets & stations in motion) to [that other space game that can't be named] than it is to add persistent NPCs and realistic economy and supply chain to Elite Dangerous. Heck, it might even be something I can mod in myself. But still, the fact that there are things about my other favorite space games that I wish were more like Elite is a testimony to Elite.

Feels like you might have got rapped on the knuckles about 'that other space game'? Is that a new development? Can I even ask about that?

When I get the angle of descent and speed of entry right on a landing, it feels like I'm arriving at the rebel base in Star Wars. I'm almost looking for the guy in the watchtower. The only thing that spoils it is the ten second or so judder of transfer from space to planet mechanics, when controls (and everything else) 'freeze up'.
I too quite like the transition to airless planets, as ever the sound is spot on and its just a good system. I do not have anywhere near the pause you do.

atmospheric planets however they dissapointed a bit, hopefully if we ever get dense ones they will spice it up... i would love there to be some chance of peril when doing an entry. iirc in Frontier and 1st enc if you got it wrong you could either burn up or bounce off and miss the planet. (but i am going back a bit so could be wrong).

1 thing which is a bit pants however is they do not do a good enough job of obfuscating when for instance searching for a poi on a planet when you have a mission to find something on planet surface (where you get that random target bouncing around)........ that is cheesy as hell, esp as regularly i am looking at a place and it is empty, only for the target to move over it and then "poof" it appears.

i dont understand why it is not populated on 1st entering the instance, if you happen to eyeball it before the target gets to it then so be it.

generally when talking about other games we get asked to move it to general gaming / OT discussion where there will be an existing thread.

It can be difficult because surely we should be able to point out where FD get things right in ED, but also contrast where things are lacking and point to " X game (not literally X) does this feature better and i would like to see FD borrow a little" . This used to be allowed but back in the day lead to a lot of squabbles.

(PS NMS does on the ground VR really, exceptionally well and mixes VR with non VR players )

I'd like to see that board. I thought I did once, but that may have been during a brief visit to Egosoft's boards. I can't see a 'general gaming/ OT discussion forum anywhere here, even on the *main' main board, and I delayed answering to look several more times.

I'll take the deserved mockery, in return for a link...
