Elite Dsngerous offline mod

We are still talking about offline version right?
You asked what BGS was...

An offline version could just be randomised, as I said.

But first you might want to understand what makes the game we are playing today 'tick', as player actions are dictating results of the tick in any system where player activity has occured, so whatever interests you (bar exploration out in the black, as the bodies are uninhabited) is being affected, every day, by the actions of other players.

By the way, could you tell difference you see in online version caused by random algorythms or player actions? Do you personally count all kills, sales etc or you rely on what game said?

The BGS people actually do that.
And a lot of "invisible" people work to move the galaxy forward.

Sure, i'm not saying a complete offline Elite Dangerous is not possible.
But,
- they dont seem to want that (offline mode removed in kickstarter),
and
- it will require some development to make it happen (to have a set of processes running everytime you start the game to account for the time pass and to simulate whatever activity happened in that period when the game was offline - which might be easy if you start the game daily or at least weekly, but not so easy if you dont start the game for a full year)
or
- have everything scripted for a period of many years (like it happens in the MW5). But what's the beauty? I played MW5 for like several weeks, while i'm playing Elite for 3.5 years.

🤷‍♂️

Nope, this will not happen, not at least while Elite Dangerous is run by FDev, and there are very very very very very very very little chances for this to happen when they'll decide to shutdown Elite servers.

I don't think there are random algorithms in the game. All Bgs actions are caused by players. If no players are present in a system it goes into a none state with no changes.
I see no problem introducing random fluctuations of the BGS for local game server.
At least in MP game mode other player actions are still looks random.
Let the BGS "tick" by user request with some cool down, or with customizable interval, no one will suffer from that because this is a local game.
Another solution could be "pull BGS state" for the region which will replace local BGS state with data from online servers.

ED servers already exist. The game runs on it.
Just make a package and publish in Steam.
Learn the client to select either global server (it is already in the game) or specific server (add input text for IP address and discard existing server lookup logic?).
And let us live with the consequences.
The case is dismissed.

Yes

They don't exist on Steam at the moment - so more for fdev to add your new mode

Adding a new mode with a lot of extra work for a couple of users of an outdated version of the game is very unlikely to happen. There is no case.

Case reopened.

Their infrastructure and servers run on AWS. Involving multiple server nodes talking to each other, as they have dedicated servers to do single things. Replicating that locally would not be trivial.

Anyway, they show no sign of doing this. So no case as Factabulous says.

I see no way it should be "not trivial".
Running local http server must be a miracle for you.

Running ED on a http server would be the miracle
How about you search for Dav's YT presentation of Elite server infrastructure before mentioning http server in the ED context

You do realize that no matter what the name is AWS this is a still regular PC?

Yea yea, i know... There is no Cloud, it's just Someone Else's Computer.
But it works best for tinhatfoil'ers and less when you want to migrate in offline a setup designed to run on specific Amazon services.

Maybe. But you easily could do it using algorythm. For you as player there's no difference.

I mentioned "http server (and browser)" as an example of the fact that entities which communicate with each other over network can run on any amount of computers (even on one computer).
If the game demands several servers then there's still no problem to run them locally. Or on another PC which is accessible via network.

So please stop advocating to technical limitations for "local ED" feature.

I hoped you'd say that, but i wouldnt know and i could not hold it 😂

Nothing is impossible if you throw enough money and enough working_hours at a problem.
However, this may not apply to our topic.

Lets return to original topic. Is there any way to ask FD to release Horizons Offline? Any way to help them?
Direct message to community manager to escalate the feature request?
They need to investigate its priority.
We need official feedback on the question.

When I started the game for the first time my first reaction on its multiplayer nature was like "why do I need that?".
Even more: the game requires connection to servers even in solo mode which also looks redundant. And the weird thing is: it is accepted by community.
I played solo mode only for my first months in the game.
I still play solo when I do not want to meet anyone.

Pretty sure that game engine cant work properly "offline", I think one of devs did clearly stated why exacly its like that, here, on these forums, but it was many years ago. Back in 2015 something.

I play solo for like 97% of my playtime. Maybe more than that.

But I'm no explorer and all my playtime happens in the bubble or colonia and is more or less related to what other people do in Elite.
If it wasnt for the community (and the bgs / online asynchronous interactions) probably i would have played 300h instead of 3000 on XB alone (plus another 3000 on PC)
