Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I have another question, because Odyssey is fairly new with newer added features, how many planets and moons have been checked for biologics and first footfalls in the bubble (gestamation)? I ask because even though I bought both Horizons and Odyssey at the same time, I did almost all of my exploration in Horizons (a lot simpler and easier version of the game). Are there still a lot of unexplored planets and moons in the bubble?

Not in the bubble I suspect. I think that's pretty much been done.

If you move to ~1.5 - 2 Kylies out, you should start picking up virgin systems/planets/footfalls etc. Of course, it depends on which direction you go so you'll need to find lesser travelled routs.

I've been 5,000 light years out and never found a single thing that wasn't already discovered.

...Go a little futher

Just checked on INARA and I've been playing for 1 month 27 days 8 hours 33 minutes. Not sure if that includes the time from 2014-2015 though.
I'm also not sure if the month in the stat is February or October.
Yes I wasn't in the game so after I saw INARA's format I went to https://www.edsm.net/ which keeps things simpler by using weeks as its biggest unit, I wasn't going to work out how many of those months were which and how many leap years to allow for.

A couple of months ago I was out near Ceos about 400-500 Ly from Sol and was getting no first discoveries of systems or planets but some first mapped and first footfalls and first to discover some of the biologics. I wasn't expecting as many firsts as I got as I was using an external tool to find likely landable planets and other things in a bid to fill out my Eye Spy book Codex a little more.

So no need to get into the deep black there are still things to get your name on quite close by.

That's exactly what I was thinking, already discovered systems that had been FSSed in or discovered Horizons and earlier games that haven't been rechecked in Odyssey. I'm sure some commanders are doing it but not a lot. I found a system with 76 bodies that only 23 had been FSS scanned, people being lazy, and those 23 bodies were scanned by 4 different people well inside the bubble.

Back when I started there where two sorts of scanners to get system data the Basic Discovery Scanner (also available in Intermediate and Advanced versions depending on how much you wanted to pay) would provide information on bodies in the system when it was 'honked' this was a short ranged device (the variants increased the range the Advanced would cover the whole system), the Detailed Discovery scanner worked by targeting a body and when in range you got a more detailed readout of its properties the range was much the same as the mapping tool we now have now with the same initials.

The consequence of this was that people with a low budget and in a hurry didn't collect all the data from a system and anyone passing through a part scanned system would see it as reported so wouldn't necessarily check to see what was missed.

You commanders today have it easy.

Yeah, if you follow any of the usual routes you won't find much. But if you go up/down and out toward nowhere (no known locations, no nebulas, etc.) you can find stuff. I've found undiscovered systems as close as 1500LY out, and there a lots of unmapped and un-footfalled (a new word I just made up) stuff even closer.

As for how many hours I've played, the last time I added it up (I have 3 accounts) it was well over 4000 hours. I haven't checked in a while, though. ED is my most-played game ever. The closest runner-up is (I think) Skyrim, and I have only around 1000 hours there, lol. It helped that I started playing ED just after I retired, and I needed something to fill a bunch of time.

I worked my entire life just so I could retire and play video games. Some might call that shallow, but it's what I always wanted, so there :)

Absolutely correct, take a trip to Colonia, go 2000Ly south of the hi-way and once across the Sagittarius Gap hit every system in your plots. You'll be Elite III and 2 billion credits richer.
