Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

This is my pilot, Nathan G. the commander of Apex 167 at 13:53 on July 2 3308 did most amateurishly smack into WISE 0913-2917 and incur hull damage expressly against my rich CEO passenger profile. Apex Interstellar has yet to respond to my refund request at this time.

You know what you need to do rupee? Go to the Empire and rank-up so you can buy some slaves to smack around, have them service your wealthy clients. If they act up or scratch the paint, you can flush them out the airlock.......... (y)

This is my pilot, Karl. I've had him for a long time, but I don't do all that much combat so he's only ranked up to Master so far.

He's very reliable and never complains. And he's not a waifu, so there's that. :p

It looks like I have paid him about 300 million credits for his service so far -- seems like a bargain.

Karl kinda seems like the sort who likes country music...

"I once flew a med ship
Big ol' supply truck
Then my wife ran off with an explorer,
Took mah dog too, just my luck"

:D

Then my wife ran off with an explorer,
Well, he actually said "partner" not wife. Which leaves the story open to interpretation :)

As for country music, sure. But not the new stuff, with all the same-looking studs singing all the same-sounding songs. No, not that. Instead, the old stuff, with amazing acoustic instrument work and vocal harmonies.

And maybe some SRV thrown in there for spice (see what I did there?! SRV = Stevie Ray Vaughn, but in this forum it might be misread!!)

I have only ever found 1. You are doing rather well, I think.
I was thinking about how you guys jump around up to 500Ly at a time, but as with everything in this game, there's no reward without the grind. I do the 1000Ly plot thing (most economical) stopping at every system, last plot was 436 jumps, this current plot is just 283, the stars are thinning out. I'm averaging 2.5 ELW's per 1000Ly, I don't mind as I see a lot of interesting things. I think I'm at 41 Earth Like Worlds, I always take a screen shot of the FSS page showing the ELW.

I just do that to get out into undiscovered territory. After that I hit every single star around where I stopped, until I get tired and come home. And of course in all the years before I had a carrier I traveled just like you are now.

I have done 24,932 system scans. I have found 1 ELW.

You, my friend, are finding ELWs left and right compared to me!

I suppose I've just been unlucky in that regard :)

One thing I have noticed is if you log out and come back later and reacquire the same plot, it actually changes. When I get tired and log out, I check to see how many jumps are left in the plot, when I log back in it can go up or down by 35 jumps, so the plot changes. If I slow to a stop, grab some coffee and force myself to keep going, I'll find an ELW before I log out. I honestly believe that if you stick with it and don't log off, you find a lot more ELW's. Just my technique.

Well it seems to work for you 😊

You might enjoy Chiggy’s thread about his ELW search and what type of systems he found them in. It’s quite interesting.

Thanks for that, I'll definitely check it out. I have noticed that 90% of the systems I found them in had 2 or less stars and fewer than 12 planets or moons. I still consider myself a rookie.

BTW, I like your desktop screen shot!

My planned week in Colonia is evolving into a summer in Colonia apparently. Not sure of anything yet, but Ody engi are so welcoming here that i decided that nothing wrong if i get some mats... I saw Colonia-with-a-carrier-trip was briefly discussed yesteday - so i took a carrier with me (how else, i was going for ship engi, wasn't thinking about Ody back then), and i can say it's not that bad actually. Yeah, it takes 15 hours for jumps, and at this time your opportunities in game are more limited than usual.

I think i've started in the evening, scheduling a couple of jumps while away from the game, then next day again, keeping the game running and checking carrier to jump more or less often. Bout halfway now. Next day i fancied scanning - usually just the system that carrier jumps in and usually in case i see it too empty (carrier parks at star but if you look on sys map you see the whole "distance" to it - must be something in there). And next day again, mostly jumping, a bit of scanning, and then Colonia already.

So it's a commitment, but doesn't look like a hard thing. A billion half a billion in tritium required (or even more if you place orders for fuel so that others could load for profits). I wonder what i do if a CG that i like happens these days... That's my main concern, getting back in one day will be painful. But if you plan in advance it's simple.

I joined that hunt for a sort time, but I find just going from one system to the next looking for the ELW signal spike makes me want to log off from Elite Dangerous and go and do something more entertaining like load the dishwasher :ROFLMAO:
I did learn from their techniques and generally find more water worlds and ELWs when out exploring now. I'm not sure how many ELWs I have first discoverer for, but it must be around 20 or so.

Great shot!

I tend to be alternating between these two lately:

A couple of odd things...

The sound on my new cans seemed to be distorting slightly on the mids - very noticeable in lifts. I just went into the program I use to play music (and rip CD's - I'm very old skool but reckong they sound better than vinyl anyway... sacrilege!). The volume was at max. I reduced it. The distortion has gone. This is weird because my soundcard playback volume was only at about 12%... there must've been some hidden setting in there. I'll get around to working it out but I'm quite sanguine.

The second thing is that these forums are now plaguing me to accept push notifications. I don't want them and said don't ask me again. Next time I enter the forums, the nagging is back. Never had this before and I regularly clear my cache but the nag never came back after.

Ho hum.

I like that second one, very pretty.

Rather watch paint dry, right? I don't know, all this stuff is still pretty new to me, I am a rookie. I feel bad, almost guilty for Codger, it doesn't seem fair he's been doing this much longer than I have. I assumed that this was average having 41 discovered ELW's.

If you have focused more on finding ELWs and you know the star classes to visit that are more likely to have them, I'm not surprised your count is higher than mine. I tend to filter out non-scoopable and M class stars when travelling between known points of interest to see. That increases my odds of finding ELWs, but also water worlds that pay quite well too (as you will know).

I'm not really hunting them though, I just make a plot and go, I don't skip any systems (no filters). I have found them under every type except brown dwarfs and Herbig AE/BE stars. I took screen shots of every one of the FSS pages just to keep track not to look for patterns or create a system. I just listen to music, drink coffee and play, I actually like exploring.
