Elite Dangerous | Industrial Sale | Introducing the 'Hazard Pack'

I love how they look. No really I love how they look.
Why is everybody looking at me funny now?

I love how they look, but.

What's that sigh of relief? And what's with the rolling eyes?

But.
They're for mining.
Obviously.

So I wouldn't have minded if they gave that little extra: an extra slot for mining equipment or some external storage for limpets or even cargo . . . It wouldn't have broke the game. It wouldn't have been pay to win.

Just saying.

Carry on.

Would you really like to destroy the sleek lines of the courier and turn into a ship for the plebs? ;)
Yes. +1. My main concern.

I think they look great, but in the Cobra's case specifically my first lesser concern is that I think it could use to look a little sleeker, maybe a little denser. It wouldn't look out of place nowadays or a few decades ago and this is still supposed to be 3300. Now you wouldn't want it to look in Elite like the protoss made it, but it could be a little techier, maybe.

Other than that, it messes with the lines of the ship a little bit. Pretty much everything in Elite has great lines. In previous-series shipkits, the later ones are a little better than the earlier ones, so I expect these will improve and get even cooler.

That's in-game functionality that you'd get by paying RL money. You'd get an advantage over other miners that don't buy the ship kits, so YES, it would have been pay to win.

Proof that this is a dead game. Why care about things that would add real gameplay like ship interiors, EVA, new leg weapons/customizations, reducing engineering grind, new planet and atmosphere types, on foot thargs and guardian items to fight them. No, you just are like "lets slap some weak spotlights on a ship and charge large amounts of money for it"
Because those other things require much, much more of the studio working together on it, which then incur much, much more efficiency penalty and time waste which requires much, much more direction and focus over other things, which equals much, much more risk?

Politics/studio layout is another factor involved. This is something that more junior assets at the studio could handle on their own efficiently without too much extra attention, and, cynical as it is, the return for it is not so speculative. Ship-related stuff is still related to the DEPTH that people want.. but now that's a can of worms that I don't want to open.

Interiors will require instancing to the ship interior or a huge rewrite of how things are rendered because it would be like taking a small Odyssey settlement with you wherever you go. I think that them saying "well, what would you do with them?" is a valid concern. You spend most of your time sat in the cockpit. This isn't like Guns of Icarus. I think maybe, maybe one way of doing it, could be to give the player various busybody stuff that they will eventually delegate to either ship upgrades, people, or robots. Maybe take your pick. Then once done, they're done. Maybe only stay relevant for deep-space explorers. That sort of unnecessary one-way kind of game design is a thing you can do to make something a game. That would be one way. Or it's a house. Hearthfire in Skyrim was a fun DLC but how much of the game was it? You could imagine various ways of tying that thing into the wider game, and having it not necessarily as its own thing but rather a motivator for the wider game. That can become very complex, though, to the point that it's almost like a new game. Execution is also a factor. I think everyone agrees that the base game hits a higher fun-level than the expansion does. They clearly have things they wanted to add when designing Elite but lifting that is clearly something they are struggling with. IMO it comes back around to the space-trading game design document: "Be everything."

Dod gaem.

I appreciate everything else you said, but here you compare 5-6 years of development of Horizons -Beyond and post Season updates with Odyssey's 1 year, 2 month long development. Ask yourself, how did Horizons look like in 2016 December - after a year of Season 2's (Horizons) launch?

With the 2016 October Guardians 2.2 udpate they introduced Guardian sites and Ship Launched Fighters and NPC crew members. But it was still 2016. They haven't yet introduced so many features which you regard as fundamental features of the base game (which become base game only a couple years ago). Features like Multicrew, Holo-me customization, Megaships, upgraded camera suite, asteroid bases etc. (came in 2017 April); Thargoids, Thargoid events, station rescues, AX weapons, new Limpets etc (2017 September); Revised Trade, Wing missions, crime penalty system, Detention centres, Galnet audio, material trader, tech broker etc. (2018 February); I could continue with other Beyond and post season updates, but I think it is clear what I am getting at.

Odyssey is a solid platform for future content.

Well, some of those things really need a case made for them being important or in some cases even good features for the game. Still, you make a good point.

Though I have been following the project since CR first mentioned it, I only began playing a few years ago.

Commanders!

The sale did indeed have a little cough again, so sorry I'm only just getting here now to confirm!
Lots of juggling and trying not to drop all these...balls...on such busy days. Thanks for all the patience with me!

Sale is back up and running now and we're extending it until 11:59pm UTC Friday, as oppose to the usual time earlier in the day.

Again, sorry for the inconvenience!

You know after having another look at the Cobra's shipkit I think what mainly bothers me is the hard square around the cockpit. Think it should have tapered in. Like a circuitboard trace.

-30% on ship kit is really poor compared to the -50% on ship kit on Black Friday.

I'll pass this sales... and wait for Fleet Carrier Layout and ship kit at -50% later in the following year.

I have accumulated so much ARX but i won't spent them on low pourcentage sales...

Sorry !

ED is a sandbox, there is no win. So technically there can never be pay to win in it no matter what. Still paywalled things that would allow CMDRs to do something faster or more efficiently/conveniently have no place in ED.

It can be played competitively though.
