Ya, I was mapping that monster Ammonia world and accidently hit the ring system with a probe. Mining seems quit complicated with many different styles in this game.
There's basically only two: Laser and Core.Ya, I was mapping that monster Ammonia world and accidently hit the ring system with a probe. Mining seems quit complicated with many different styles in this game.
Cool!Thank you, I haven't done any mining, "yet". Not really looking forward to it, I know, a bunch of you guys thoroughly enjoy it but I'm not a big fan. I spent my summers as a youth working a family mining claim. We had horses and pack mules and lived there all summer.
No, that's just finding hotspots. Is that when you shoot a probe at a ring system? I accidently hit a ring with a mapping probe and several orange spots popped up.
I think that these guys that have carriers can really clean up, you get to park your fleet onboard and take them all with you. Mining, combat, and exploration and you can mine for fuel too, right? So, you can go deep in to the black, you can have Astro-metrics, xenobiology and tons of storage for all your minerals you acquire, I'm seriously thinking about getting one. There's basically only two: Laser and Core.
Only one is worth doing: Laser.
Core is a lot of fun and takes a lot more skill, but the cores are so few and far between that you spend 25 times the amount of time looking for a core that you do actually mining it.
Platinum cores only appear in metal-rich rings, not the metallic rings you'd be laser mining in. FWIW.I've mined over 10,000 tons of platinum and never once seen a platinum core in a platinum hot spot.
I have an ExploMiner 49er named "Clementine" - T7 set up for laser mining and exploration including SRV, which can hold up to 160 tons of refined mined fragments...Ya, I was mapping that monster Ammonia world and accidently hit the ring system with a probe. Excellent. An important distinction. I learned something new today...Thanks.Platinum cores only appear in metal-rich rings, not the metallic rings you'd be laser mining in. FWIW.
The reverse is true as well.Excellent. An important distinction. I learned something new today...Thanks.
Ahhh, also good to know...thanks for heading me off at the pass...The reverse is true as well.
You don't want to be laser mining in a metal rich ring. You won't find a thing.
It's a common mistake new miners make.
You don't say. It's a common mistake new miners make.
He does that a lot.just a fountain of knowledge today...
Just what I was saying, complicated. I have 3 little note pads and pieces of junk mail with info jotted down on them just to keep up with you guys. The reverse is true as well.

I stopped keeping notes and just let it flow. I forget things and then re-remember them.Just what I was saying, complicated. I have 3 little note pads and pieces of junk mail with info jotted down on them just to keep up with you guys.
Depends on my mood and I like to try everything in the game. There is an appeal to offloading mined materials to your own fleet carrier for selling later.Thank you, I haven't done any mining, "yet". I'm too impatient to leave things to chance, so I cheat and use a hotspot finder: https://edtools.cc/hotspotAhhh, also good to know...thanks for heading me off at the pass...
Yer just a fountain of knowledge today...
I prefer the organic approach...I'm too impatient to leave things to chance, so I cheat and use a hotspot finder: https://edtools.cc/hotspot
In theory, yes.The orange spots are hot spots for the mineral type shown. It means you will find more of that mineral in that area as apposed to low value minerals.
I had better rephraseIn theory, yes.![]()
