Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

@nemolomen and I had that conversation in private the other day.

It's sometimes very hard to see sarcasm or tongue-in-cheek in the written word. I think we all have been posting in this thread long enough to give each other the benefit of any doubt from this point forward.
I approve this message...

In other news, I have discovered the Imperial Clipper for core mining. How on earth have I NOT had this ship in my lineup until now?
One day I hope to unlock this Imperial ToeNail Clipper...

1. Large pad

2. Gutamaya

3. It isn't a Python

;)
  1. I've never needed a medium pad for trading/selling. I've always used large. (Cutter, Type 9)
  2. Of course it is.
  3. It's a LOT faster, maneuvers far better and carries the same amount as the Python, which is what I was using.
Edit to add: There is one caveat - I tend to hit the big side pods on the rocks from time to time, which never happened with the Python. I'm still getting used to where the limits are in it's size. I've only been out in it twice.

I thought this when I bought one for my second commander account. I overlooked it for a long time as it's a medium ship needing a large landing pad.
It's prone to overheating and a bit fragile, but fast and agile enough to dodge the hits and loads of fun. It's sounds as good as it looks and hide it's off centre seating position well. I have not got around to trying it for core mining yet. I use it for taking a stack of different missions for influence rewards in BGS game play.

I have always found the Gutamayas unappealing, mainly due to their form over function design. I feel the major difference as far as mining goes is the lack of size 5 internal bays in the Clipper. As for capacity, I think you are wrong, Python can go up to 286t with a shield - Clipper only 242.

Personal choice of course is the main thing, I don't like the pontoons at all and the ability of the Python to fit on a medium pad trumps everything else. Others like to swan about in a slick design, me I'd be happy even with a NMS aberration as long as It met my needs. ;)

P.S. One thing I do like about the Clipper is the graphics when they explode. :sneaky:

If you strip them both down to pretty much nothing but cargo, yes. But I don't fly that way. I like all the flight aids and FSD boosters. I also run a fuel scoop on the Clipper. I can carry 192 Tons with the Clipper but only 128 with the Python.

Edit to add: The nod goes to the Python for aiming though. The off center aiming of the Clipper does take some getting used to.

Woke up (on my alt) in HIP 22460, but was not docked on the Bright Sentinel any more. I was floating in space, without power, everything dark, no control.

The Proteus Wave had been fired, and it failed spectacularly. The Thargoids are angry.

After a bit my ship regained power, and I tried to look around. I was almost immediately attacked by Thargoids, and barely made the jump to Supercruise.

I wandered the system a bit just looking around. It is full of Thargoids and is now considered a Hazardous Area. Thargoids control the system, apparently.

I returned to the Bright Sentinel to see what I could see. It was on fire, and Thargoids were all around. It wasn't long before they noticed me and shut down my ship's power again.

This time, when I regained power, I was under serious attack. I did not escape, and my ship was destroyed.

I was transported to Trevithick Dock, over 400LY away.

Meanwhile, on my Main Account out in the black, all is normal and peaceful.

So it appears that we now have at least one system that is under Thargoid control. Perhaps they will spread out from there. I guess we'll see.

I heard someone in chat say that Guardian Modules do not function in HIP 22460. I didn't have any with me to check.

The rest of the game appears unaffected, so Thargoid fighting will still be optional, I think.

Well, the data for stations is all messed up too.

Went out to Leonard Nemoy Station to sell the Serendibit as INARA had it listed selling there for 560,000 per ton updated 5 minutes ago.

It's only at 200,000 per ton.
That's cuz the demand is low (currently 3). You always gotta be sure that demand is high. If you have more than 25% of the demand in your hold, you get a lower price.

On Inara this shows as the demand quantity being in red. If you hover over a red one it will tell you the max cargo you can bring to get that price.

I can't say I was surprised that something like what happened, did. Salvation a 'goid "plant" perhaps.

I was kinda hoping that the firing would cause the return of the Guardians - who knows maybe it will. When I left the game a while back Halsey (name?) reported meeting beings in her sojourn - I don't see anything about that now I have come back but then again I am too busy trying to get to grips with Odyssey to do much research on the intervening time.

The Pilot's Federation sent a most concerning message! Oh no they kilt CMDR Codger too!

My diagnosis? BAD BABYSITTING! (A line from Simpsons)

That is most definitely not what I am up to. Final pictures of Statue of Liberty, lifting off from a couple of rock collectings and then passing away from the far eastern edge yesterday

We'll be jumping through hyperspace for awhile. I still say we, even with no passengers

Ahhhhhh. I get it now.

Well, that actually worked out for the best. Came back after lunch and found a carrier about 6 jumps away that offered me 1.7 million per ton for it.

So now I'm mining in ice rings for Opals and Alexandrite.

Is there ANY WAY AT ALL to prevent the ice buildup all over the windshield?
Dump the Clipper and get a ship with a coffee machine. One of the Federal jobbies has two, one on either side of the cockpit - should keep the canopy from icing over and you awake as you mine.

I like the Type 9 for mining but the coffee machine is right at the back of the ship, bloomin‘ poor design and a long walk.

Yeah, I logged in (zero download or getting in-game issues) orbiting planet 10b convinced I was just going to be an observer. Enjoyed the cut-scene and after it ended watched a Thargoid jump in and sniff around me. I smugly sat there totally sure the usual scan and depart procedure would occur.

Shields down, hull dropping faster than my expression from self satisfaction to full on ‘huh?!’ Then boom boom bye bye.

I‘ve never been into Thargoid combat beyond tackling a few scouts here and there but if interaction with them is going to be less optional now I’m all for it. Nice to see some additional dynamism/change coming to the Galaxy.
