Once again to confirm. These are the options that will be available to you, following the update, via the Elite Dangerous Launcher:

  • Elite Dangerous (Base Game - pre Horizons)
Horizons Players (players who have not purchased Odyssey):

  • Elite Dangerous (Base Game - pre Horizons)
(Arena and Combat Training will remain for both).

Known Issues:
Whilst a number of these known issues are naturally cause for concern among players at present, the team are viewing them with high priority of address and we'll of course inform you of progress on resolution of them in due course.

Store.
We are experiencing some degree of turbulence around the in game store at present.
Issues include:
  • A number of Odyssey suits that should be available for Commanders to purchase are currently greyed out and unobtainable in game.
  • All Suit decals in Livery display with a red "Odyssey-only content" icon, no matter if they are Odyssey or Horizons decals.

Game:
  • Codex entry for optional exploration equipment lists Advanced Planetary Vehicle Hangar rather than Advanced Docking Computer.
  • [Horizons 4.0] The glass for the bar area on Fleet Carriers has an incorrect texture.
    • It's very...VERY bright in there. Very bright.
  • When viewing ringed planetary bodies, the planetary rings do not currently appear to render correctly.
    • It is possible to drop into the ring and asteroids will be present.
  • [Horizons 4.0] Some Power Regulators, when visible on the SRV Radar appear targetable on approach, but cannot be acquired, as they are inside the local Power Building.
  • [Horizons 4.0] Suit decals currently equip as expected in Livery, but do show in-game when using the Camera Suite, nor to other players in the same instance.
  • Ship decals can be seen by other Commanders in Horizons 4.0, however the Odyssey rank decals ( Mercenary & Exobiologist) can not be seen by other players currently.
As I say, please do accept our apologies on these issues being present currently. We're working hard on our forward moving plan to address these and you'll be kept informed.



Once again, Commanders, thank you as always for being on this journey.

I'll be here to monitor proceedings following everyone's return to game and support in any way needed.

We have nothing further to say regarding instancing between versions at this time.
Focus from here will be to of course appreciate your feedback on the situation and hold tightly to it, however there will not be anything further to add on this topic for you at this time.

Onward form here is primarily going to be centered on providing any release support in the best way possible at our capacity, for any immediate issues o7

Thanks. Looking forward to trying Odyssey 4.0 tonight. Though, that download size has me convinced there may be other gems buried in whatever this 4.0 represents as far as Elite Dangerous' evolution.

why cant i get access to horizons 4.0 even though i have the ody dlc i prefer to play on horizons with a friend of mine because they dont have ody but they will have access to the 4.0 codebase the only reason i dont play ody is because someone with a bog standard pistol can actually blow up a ship that weighs in excess of 900 tons with a shield and armour and they can still destroy a ship with a pistol come on fdev sort ya ballistics out as it would be like trying to destroy a tank with a pistol irl which just aint gonna happen

I think Horizon 4.0 is neither shareware nor free update nor big promotion but abandoning early Odyssey plan. I remember FDev said these things.

You can play Ody, but not engage in onfoot content, which is optional if you dont like that someone with a bog standard pistol can blow up a paperplane (not a ship).
You'll run out of ammo if you try to blow my ship for example

And you can still play with your friend in Horizons 3.8 where there is no chance to lose your ship to someone using a pistol

fdev why are you forcing players to play ody as it is on the 4.0 codebase, i wont be able to play with a friend of mine as they dont own ody but they will have access to both 3.8 and 4.0 codebase but if i play horizons i only get to play the 3.8 codebase which means if my friend is playing the 4.0 version of horizons i wont be able to join them because i only have access to horizons 3.8

I wish Frontier would have let the launcher to allow you to launch into Odyssey 4.0, Horizons 4.0 or Horizons 3.8. It seems Horizons 4.0 is not available if you have Odyssey.

For us 3rd party developers its a bit difficult to find bugs since I, as an Odyssey owner, can't launch Horizions 4.0

And also for others you won't be able to interplay with non Odyssey people using 4.0 - only by both of you going back to use 3.8

A pity.

Gift Ody to friend, problem solved.
It's not supposed to play together at 1st place. You can't demand all comfortable for free.

Good intentions until the great Odyssey debacle, then it became string console players along for a year and drop them.

As they've explained - Horizons 4.0 is a (free of charge) courtesy launch for Horizons players to be able to try the codebase 4.0 and also enjoy the new Narrative (the anomaly for example is not visible in 3.8, Hip 22460 is deserted in 3.8 and so on).

And, not at last, a stepping stone towards the Odyssey.
