What species are missing for you to complete your local zoo?

Just the title question. Aquariums and Aviaries are not included unless you want to.

Don't have a local one, not even on country level, so going for the favorite.

And not that much is missing for that one tbh, mostly South American animals and Birds.

Africa:
1. Barbary Ape
2. L'Hoest Monkey
3. Sulcata Tortoise
4. Gelada
5. Red River Hog
6. Somalian Wild Donkey
7. Eland
8. Fossa

Oceania:
9. Bennett Wallaby
10. Black Swan
11. Sarus Crane

South America:
12. Maned Wolf
13. Greater Rhea
14. Andean Bear
15. Ocelot
16. Two Toed Sloth
17. Squirrel Monkey
18. White Faced Saki
19. Cotton Top Tamarin
20. Emperor Tamarin

Europe:
21. Wisent
22. European Wild Cat

The problem is that my zoo (Houston) has a big roster, and we're only getting more this coming year.

So, imma divide it by each zone. I will not include animal types not in the game (aquariums and flying aviaries. If it's a ground dwelling aviary bird, I'll add it):

  • Texas Wetlands/Children's Zoo
    • Whooping crane
    • Greater roadrunner
    • Swift fox
    • NA porcupine
    • Bobcat
    • Wild turkey
    • NA river otter
    • White tailed deer
  • South American Pantanal
    • Black howler monkey
    • Greater rhea
    • Roseate spoonbill
    • Screamer (bird)
    • Curassow (red billed)
    • Green anaconda
  • African Forest
    • Red river hog
    • Masai giraffe
  • Natural Encounters
    • Golden lion tamarin
    • Sloth (not sure which)
    • Victoria crowned pigeon
    • Prevost's squirrel
    • Prehensile tailed porcupine

Not very far from the game roster in that case. I've been to the Houston zoo and loved it. I hear they add a new Galapagos area?

  • African Lion (unspecified) -> West African Lion
  • Rothschild's Giraffe (hybridised I think) -> Reticulated Giraffe
  • Aruba Island Rattlesnake -> Western Diamondback Rattlesnake
Thought it would be fun to compare this to Monarto Safari Park, Adelaide's sister zoo and the one that takes on most of the megafauna (the Adelaide Zoo is a small city zoo while Monarto is one of, if not the largest zoo in the world in regards to area). The roster here is far more complete:

Habitat animals:
  • Tasmanian Devil
  • Yellow-footed Rock-wallaby
  • Cape Porcupine
  • Black Rhinoceros
  • Addax
  • Blackbuck
  • Common Eland
  • Aoudad
  • Red Deer
  • Emu (not deliberately displayed but wild emus are so damn common on the grounds they might as well be)
  • Malleefowl

Animals with reasonable substitutes:
  • African Lion (unspecified) -> West African Lion
  • Rothschild's Giraffe (hybridised I think) -> Reticulated Giraffe
  • Mesopotamian Fallow Deer -> European Fallow Deer

Monarto has a lot more species backstage in breeding programs but I'm only including species on display

I'll combine my two local zoos and exclude (most) domestics:
  • Mexican spider monkey.
  • Addax.
  • Common waterbuck.
  • Tasmanian devil.
  • Bennett's wallaby.
  • Emu.
  • North Island brown kiwi.
  • Kunekune pig.*
  • Tibetan yak.
  • African crested porcupine.
  • Cape Barren goose.
  • Tufted capuchin.
  • Sumatran tiger.
  • Mute swan.
  • Leopard tortoise.
  • Southern lion.**
  • Rothschild's giraffe.**
  • Lace monitor.
  • Little blue penguin.***
  • South Island takahe.
*Counting it because they're pretty ubiquitous to NZ zoos and held in some exotic collections.
**I consider the in-game lion and giraffe fine substitutes (not so for the tigers though).
***The 'International Antarctic Centre' in my city keeps them, so it counts, I guess.

I'll do a list for exhibit animals too:
  • Tuatara.
  • Central bearded dragon.
  • Greek tortoise.*
  • Golden bell frog.
  • Japanese fire-bellied newt.
  • Grand skink.
  • Duvaucel's gecko.
  • Naultinus sp.**
  • Otago skink.
  • Raukawa gecko.
  • Leiopelma sp.**
  • Brown tree frog.
  • Whistling tree frog.
*The Greek tortoise is always kept in small, exhibit-sized enclosures here, but I feel like it's an unlikely addition or that Frontier would throw it in the habitat market.
**All our zoos keep some or all species in these two genera.

And if we take walkthrough aviaries as a given:
  • Kea.
  • New Zealand wood pigeon/kereru.
  • Yellow-crowned kakariki.
  • Red-crowned kakariki.
  • North Island kaka.
  • New Zealand falcon.
  • Sulphur-crested cockatoo.
  • Gallah.
  • Red-tailed black cockatoo.
  • Major Mitchell's cockatoo.
In this case several birds have been ommitted by virtue of being less interesting outside of mixed forest aviaries, such as the NZ bellbird or tui.

I'll do just habitat species, no exhibits, no aviaries, no aquariums.

Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC
  • North American river otter
  • Hamadryas baboon
  • Diana monkey
  • Harbor seal
  • Domestic pig
  • Domestic chicken
  • Nigerian dwarf goat
  • Nubian goat
  • Alpaca
  • Bennett's wallaby
  • African spurred tortoise
  • Radiated tortoise*
  • Burmese black mountain tortoise*
  • False gharial*
  • Swan goose
  • Caribbean flamingo
  • Rockhopper penguin
  • Gentoo penguin
  • Common squirrel monkey
  • White faced saki
  • Golden lion tamarin
  • Hoffman's two-toed sloth
  • Fishing cat
  • Black footed cat
* currently not on exhibit while the amphibian/reptile complex undergoes extensive renovations

In-game species: Grizzly bear, "lion", Amur tiger, siamang, koala, California sea lion, king penguin, American alligator, Cuvier's dwarf caiman, Galapagos giant tortoise, western lowland gorilla, red kangaroo, ring-tailed lemur, red ruffed lemur, binturong, North Sulawesi babirusa, meerkat, white rhino, reticulated giraffe, plains zebra, ostrich

Might be forgetting one or two, particularly reptiles since it's been some time since the ARC shut down and it's always been my least frequented area.

Greenville Zoo in Greenville, SC
  • Greater rhea
  • Kunekune pig
  • Domestic chicken
  • Domestic duck
  • Chilean flamingo
  • Black swan
  • Southern screamer
  • Alligator snapping turtle
  • Ocelot
  • Masai giraffe
  • Bat-eared fox
  • Schmidt's guenon
  • Angolan colobus
  • Geoffroy's spider monkey
In-game species: Giant anteater, American alligator, red panda, siamang, Amur leopard, Bornean orangutan, "lion", Aldabra giant tortoise, black-and-white ruffed lemur

Started to cap off South Carolina and do its final AZA zoo, Lowcountry Zoo, but they have a lot of domestics and waterfowl that I'm not sure on. The most notable ones aside from those would be gray fox, North American river otter, white-tailed deer, and wild turkey, though. American alligator and now red fox, and maybe llama are the in-game species they have.

Maned wolf
Southern screamer
North American porcupine
African crested porcupine
Bald eagle
Canadian lynx

The zoo closest to me is the Tulsa Zoo (Oklahoma, USA). As you’ll see in the list below, I tried to be as species-specific as possible, even with the more obscure inclusions in the zoo’s collection.
