Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Drive Assist OFF!!!
That was the first thing I did to the SRV after about five minutes of trying to get somewhere with that thing...
Learn to use those jump jets to your advantage
I am working on that - a little tricky sometimes. Mine does seem to have a mind of its own. Those thrusters do not always work in synch, it feels like...
I didn't know the SRV could go sideways
SRV drifting is fun!
Still a beginner at it, but still - a load of fun.

I have been heading away from the bubble along the boundary between two sectors and am now starting to curve away from that towards the coreward boundary where I will make my way back, the urge to return has been reinforced by an incident that used to be all too common but I haven’t encountered in years.

The systems I have been choosing to visit have mainly been ones with multiple stars with at least one in the main sequence, this system had about 4 stars with the primary being an A there was a K as well.

The incident occurred as I arrived in the system there was a red flash and I found myself directly between one of the stars and the A class primary, heat warnings started to make things more distracting moments later, fortunately the DBX is fairly manoeuvrable and fitted with heat sinks so not too much damage was taken.

My Apex driver got the front landing gear jammed into a rock. AMATEUR!!

Well, I discovered something interesting today. I have been traversing a huge Brown Dwarf region that so far about 3500 Ly across, I had switched to max jump range on my plots to get through it quicker and actually gone a little over 2000 Ly before I logged off last night with 16 jumps left in my plot.

I got back into the game a few hours ago and reacquired the plot, 16 jumps it said. But, as everyone knows, it only uses your current position and the last system in your plot thus making it grow or shrink in the jump number, mine didn't. Because I'm in a vast Brown Dwarf region, fuel stars are very important and I always keep a close eye on my fuel gauge anyway.

My max jump range is 54.6 Ly current with a full fuel load, I made one jump, scanned all the planets and start to move on to the next system at 51.9 Ly. It wouldn't allow me to make the jump, it said max weight exceeded by 8 tons, I have a full load of fuel minus one jump so I'm stumped, can't figure it out.

I had to go to the last star in my plot and cancel it and replot, next jump was 52.4 Ly and I made the jump. Now I'm blown away, what the heck is going on? Well, after thinking about it I realized that reacquiring the plot moved my refueling star out of my reach and the game wouldn't allow me to proceed because I didn't have enough fuel to reach it.

I can't drive an SRV without drive assist, it frees up my hands to do other things like steering and head turning at the same time. Also, when airborne, I can tilt nose down and thrust at the same time and when I land, I'm about the same speed I was when I left the ground. But hey, that's just my stile and I use an Xbox game controller because of a hand injury in the military, I just hope they never remove that option.

I am not sure if your controller is of the original XBox or if it is at least a 360 controller like mine. Although the differences seem to be minimal.
On my setup, the left stick is for steering, the right one to look around. Left and right trigger are forward and reverse (and the according brake), the shoulder buttons are for primary and secondary device activation (also fire trigger for the guns in combat mode). B activates the thrusters. Y + ⬆️ switches HUD modes, Y + ⬇️ activates the camera limpet. X selects a target in sensor range, X + directions on digipad activate the different HUD panels, A activates the handbrake, A + digipad controls the leftover functions like lights and cargo scoop.
I do not know if this would be helpful for you, as I do not know what kind of limitations your hand injury causes you.

I have no idea what you're on about there at all.

The fact is, if you're doing Robigo MINE runs, you are never scanned at all. By anybody. So it's not possible for that to have been the cause of your detention. That is what I've been talking about all along.

And nobody anywhere ever said that running a large ship out of Hauser's was more profitable. It isn't. And it's harder. And you get scanned. Guaranteed. And it's very likely you'll get pinched at some point because of it.

I've run Robigo Mine runs for well over 2 billion credits and have never once been so much as scanned, let alone ever pinched and locked up.

Here's one I just did. It doesn't get any easier than this:

Ah because now you know better than other what experience they've been through?

As you said YOU HAVE NO IDEA. So now get off my face, you're p!ss!ng me off big time with your ignorant lectures.

That's what I was wondering: if anybody actually used it for selling anything. In my brief excursion into on foot missions, most places I went looking for materials didn't have any. I wasted about 2 hours looking.

I wasn't sure if that was a one off or if that was typical.
Yeah, to an extent. Generally many things are very common and worthless, and some things are precious and still worthless (price-wise). Ppl still do sell stuffs though, as even 10 millions are the whole 10 millions and that's just for a few clicks. I often find myself unloading the Assets that i have in too big quantities - at some point they're gone, but up to you if you find it worth, just look at the price of the Assets, it'll be in thousands, and not millions. Regarding Data and Goods prices are a bit better, so again, selling some time to time when i have too much. I never counted profits and in fact Bartender profit counter is currently broken - it remains at zero whatever you do (this can be outdated as i'm not sure if i sold anything during this month).

You'll probably need info from Inara to check what ppl sell, and disregard anything that's older than a few hours, as all this stuff is considered worth much more than mere credits and is hunted.

One thing however about your Bar that is often omitted (ok after reading further i see it's not omitted but nevertheless). Bar is 1000 storage for anything (e. g. can all be Data or whatever). In case hoarding is your thing, Bar is a wonderful place. And price... Ye, expensive, ye, idk why so, but has its uses. I keep a shipyard on my carrier to be able to switch ships while i walk downstairs, its handy, and that costs me whopping 3k storage. Bar is easier on storage so let it cost. On top of all this you help other ppl get their stuffs, which is precious.

What is the price cap?
It's 10% to 1000% as with everything else. It's going to give just a few millions. My main point is still a storage, and then if it can earn you a couple of millions, let it earn then.

I'm on HIP 36601 and there is an interesting fact: All the Geological signals I get in Horizon don't show in v2.0, it might be because I'm new to the 2.0 interface but those signals are replaced by other non-material relevant, like distress calls etc, on the same planet.
Playing Horizon (NOT 2.0).
Raw.jpg

Here is the list of sites I visit regularly and know for sure to be rich in raw materials:

HIP 36601 - C 1 a - Polonium XXX
HIP 36601 - C 1 d - Ruthenium XXX
HIP 36601 - C 3 b - Tellurium XXX
HIP 36601 - C 5 a - Technetium XXX

LHS 417 9 E A Geo Sources 18, 19, 21, 23, 25 - Selenium

So I'm gonna top up my inventory with Polonium, Ruthenium, Tellurium and Technetium here and aim for LHS 417 9 E for Selenium, then exchange the grade 4s for all the material I need to feed the Corvette weaponry with Standard ammo, be cause the only two reliable ways for me to make credit are bounty hunting and trade loops...

Now I'm uninstalling v2.0, (trying)...

Update: Planet C5A. Technetium "trees", you shoot branches off them, they only contain the material you're looking for, time to top up an inventory from zero <> 45mn, there are other growth showing on rocks with lower grade raw materials.

Took the Mamba for a burn through the canyons on planet 2C in our expedition home system before setting the first carrier jump back to the bubble. I'll probably come back here sometime next year after a trip somewhere new. But at least the next 2 months are reserved for getting Quain up to deadly combat rank, whatever BGS player faction activity is required, and whatever update 14 and the Stargoids bring to the party.

2.0 was the first version of Horizions, like 7 years ago. Released on December 15th, 2015 for PC (and June 2016 for consoles). If you're talking about 4.0 (= Horizons, Odyssey version) or Odyssey then yes, that's what Odyssey does.

If you have Odyssey, you can officially choose between base game (whatever version), Horizons 3.8 and Odyssey.
If you don't have Odyssey, you can officially choose between base game, Horizons 3.8 and Horizons 4.0.
Unofficially, you can apparently also select Horizons 4.0 if you do have Odyssey through a command line option.

You don't need to uninstall Odyssey if you want to go material harvesting the old way, you just need to start into Horizons 3.8 from the Launcher.

Dear Commanders @Marvin the Martian and @thinder,

I have been watching your argument over the so called "Robigo (Mine?) Run", thinking: "There is something wrong here."
It took me a while to recognize what it was.

You are BOTH doing it wrong!

Yes, you both took a wrong turn. Once you turned the way of greed and self-optimization, you went down a rabbit hole. Only this one does not lead to the land of Oz. This one leads to a way darker place. One that almost managed to kill me IRL.

Once you went thinking "There must be a way to squeeze more credits out of this.", you killed the fun in the game for some profit. Yes, those ships (or even worse: carriers) are expensive. But, is it really necessary to have them all at once (so to speak)? Is it not more rewarding to buy a new ship / equip a new module to your carrier if you had some fun while earning those credits?

I'm assuming you meant 4.0 not 2.0.

Yeah. That's the Odyssey interface.

The way it works is when you first scan the planet from distance, you'll see some blue shaded areas show up. In the "launch probe" view, you can use your Q and E keys to switch between the different things detected to see the different areas where they may be found, which is represented by the blue areas.

Then you have to actually go find them all.

It's much more involved than 3.8 Horizons is. You actually have to do the leg work to find materials and biologics. They're not just given to you in Odyssey like they are Horizons.

That said, on materials gathering, people have listed the coordinates of most of the hot spots in Odyssey, so you can use those to fly to the area and then spot with your eyes to get to them.

Buy a fleet carrier, then talk to me.

Weeeeellll...

I have a carrier, one of every single ship (with about 40% fully engineered to what I want) and enough credits to buy, oh, almost three more carriers on top. I still want more credits. I need credits. Mwahahahaha! :D

Seriously though, it's a way of keeping score with myself and I don't feel I've accomplished much if I don't make much money.

And I'm having a ton of fun

And, it turns out, the on-foot game is proving to be fairly lucrative.
