I got gifted Elite dangerous on steam but game cannot launch saying i need a cd key. I have logged into steam on the frontier page but it still says i do not own the game.

I have played a little bit of ED, and I'd like to upload my Journal to EDSM, however I have had to do a clean install of the game due to my harddrive dying on me, making my past journal entries inacessible. Is there a way I could download an archive of my accounts' journal, if it even exists?
