Patch Notes Update 2.2.02 Update

I already did mining for weeks and exploration. I spent a ton of money on setting up for passenger missions then the devs move the goal posts and make it completely worthless. If you consider 1 mil an hour good then good luck to you. I have better things to do than sinking 150hrs into this game just to buy another ship. Not sure if you are aware but some people actually have a real life outside this game.

As for deleting the game, way ahead of you.

Boy oh boy another Crying, salt ridded, ex player, Ignore button Pressed!

What I miss is a patch for the interdiction bug. We loose merits and powerplay every day and every week.

What I also miss is a fix for instances. Sigh.

About the lowered passenger missions payment: I will resell my passenger ship and let it lie. It makes no sense it is just hoping around like a trader or explorer, I see no difference in game play. Long distance missions are great but there is no financial advantage. It is just uninspired monotone high wake grind.

Elite could be a great sophisticated tactical and strategic space combat simulation but it gets more and more a game for autistic grinders and virtual achievement collectors with too much spare time. Unfortunately.

I concur.

I am much more comfortable with the new passenger payouts. I was actually freaked out by going from 5,000 to 20,000 payouts for general scutwork in my courier, to ~500,000 payouts for transporting a rich tourist 10 light years in my keelback. It felt like cheating.

Has the Interdiction not been altered? I am finding it a little easier now? You still have to work at it, and so you should, but for me a little easier. I have not altered my FSDI module??

ED is never going to be JUST a Combat Space simulation game, it is not sold as that and as far as i know it never has been....... (I stand to be corrected by more educated people on this). I keep on hammering this, but the Grind is in your mind only, you don't have to grind at all, my second cmdr account is an example of that!

Oh there is a fix: Get better hardware.

No kidding, after whining and crying on my side (and from several other cmdrs) there was a reply: It's all about frame rate. Get a bigger graphics card for more FPS and add a larger FSDi (you got plenty of room in your ferdy, don't you?!) and you may get on similar levels than before.

I am so appalled about the ongoing dilletantic pseudo balancing, I am out of words.

What I also miss is a fix for instances. Sigh.

As this is a HUGE problem since release I can only speculate it's not fixable.

It definitely is. Problem is, without Sothis, the disastrous dropout rates of new cmdrs will soar now that no-money-frustrations are higher than ever.

I am not an avid gamer spending his whole life playing games. I got a life. I am an AVID elite fan since 1985, though. So from a not-dumb-enough-for-brainless-grind-forever point of view I can just say: KUDOS you just hit it on the head. There may be enough cash cows and new cmdrs to bring this thing to its 10 year goal, but it COULD BE SO MUCH BETTER with a better leading team. This game has been * (self censored) up so many times since release, this is ridiculous.

- Hire someone who knows about balancing

- Switch to trouble shooting before releasing even more bug producing unwanted gadgets

- Stop fiddling around, making things better with each "balancing"

So money means nothing really so it seems. Are you introducing tow/stowe to steal disabled Ships to sell as scrap or repair & keep? Or how about player transactions too to allow user based Missions?

Well...

I didn't take part in the Beta, so I don't know how it was conducted, but if mission/passenger prices were screwed in the update then, surely, the problem would have been highlighted during testing? If not, what new code has been added between Beta release of 2.2?

What I'm saying is, it looks to me at this point like a combination of a lack of thorough testing and Quality Assurance, and a "rush to release" for passenger missions (and I previously worked for a company that was Big and Blue, so I know what "rush to release" looks like). Maybe they relied too much on feedback during Beta instead of thoroughly testing it all... who knows? It just feels like they introduced more bugs than they fixed.

I assume (hope) that they have a test environment where they can roll back to pre-2.2, and then start adding in the changes to see which one broke the economics. I'd even be happy with a rollback in the released version to pre-2.2, right now.

Saying all that, you CAN still find decent missions, occasionally, so you CAN make money, just not at the rate at which we've been used to. It does make the acquisition of A-class modules a huge grind (just bought a Python, no cash to upgrade it) and it's going to put new players off as well as stop a lot of existing players in their tracks who like to trade. It's no use saying "play it another way" as many people feel the joy of this game is that they can play it THEIR way, whatever way that may be. Because you may enjoy being a pirate or a bounty hunter or an explorer, it doesn't mean that you'd get as much enjoyment from the game if those aspects were nerfed, the way missions have been. It's not a prescriptive game, it's a sandbox.

Anyway, I got Elite on my BBC-B (and managed to get to Elite in rank, then, too) so I'm not going to abandon my favourite game, but I think they need to get a grip on current problems rather than concentrate on trivialities like what colour your laser beams are.

Happy grinding!

Since the last patch, does anybody else get the "Frameshift Charging" message twice each time they jump?
I get it when I first select FSD, then I hear it once again, immediately after the countdown and on entering Hyperspace....
Not a problem, as such, but never noticed it before the last patch.

No, but I've turned mine off since using Voice Attack. Maybe there's new options?

Funny. I got that after the original 2.2 release, but recently not anymore.

I only get that when I start charging the drive, cancel it, and then start charging it again. I've never heard it happen when letting the drive charge all the way up normally.

Thanks for the patch, but....

Thanks for the patch but since 2.2 went live there have been too many game-breakers that still aren't addressed and according to official dev posts aren't going to be fixed in the immediate future. I'll probably (if I can discipline myself) take a 90-day break and reassess whether the game is playable in the new year.

  • At the moment, even with the SRV refuelling issue fixed, the wave scanner is severely bugged which ruins surface prospecting and most of the surface missions. Generation of rare resources also seems to now be bugged.
  • Trying to make engineer progress is practically impossible, because of the Biotech Conductors bug locking out almost every needed rare material and the SRV bugs making prospecting no fun. These are the two primary sources!
  • Passenger missions and rewards look to be a disaster - Instant death in 2.2.01 has been replaced with a bug that means so little pay in 2.2.02 that it's not worth the investment/risk/time at all in terms of rep/rank/monetary reward
  • All missions are suffering from slow mission boards still, and there has been a huge increase in the number of "transaction server" and "matchmaking server" disconnects in 2.2. It certainly isn't the promised fix we've been waiting several months for and that 2.2 was allegedly the big fix for!
  • Trying to gain rank with Federation/Imperial has been nerfed into another several-thousand mission grind but it doesn't matter because with the broken mission boards and delays I can't even stack 10 faction missions reliably anymore; If I did finally get my Corvette I can't engineer mod it or finance the outfitting under 2.2's economy either. Without stacking we're looking at single-digit missions per hour, which means thousands of hours of gameplay for just one faction. I play maybe ten hours a week and I consider that A LOT for just one game.
Please, someone tell me what your incentive for playing this game is right now? At the moment it seems to be that everything I could want to do in Horizons has been replaced by a grind or is walled-off by bugs. I don't want to grind even more because it's not fun and ED is already one of the grindiest games on the market. It seems that some of the "freemium" mobile games that offer a choice of "grind or pay" are less grindy that Elite these days. Was that by design? Apparently so.

Wasp0 has been duly ignored himself. :)

Maybe in Season 3, the *only* way to get things is to steal them. :)

The number, type, and payout of missions for myself, allied with just about every faction for 30 light-years, has dropped dramatically.

Can anyone help?
I am trying to get the update... it goes through all the steps but when it gets to "finalizing update" it drops saying "failed to read from response stream, network connection closed"

My connection is fine, I can play with no irregular lag spikes on other games.

is the servers down?

I've been interdicted a number of times lately, but actually been able to escape quite a few of them. They fixed the "escape vector jumps around randomly" bug that essentially made the only viable strategy "submit and try to boost away."
